The point I was trying to make was that if you say "Blue", people think of 4 cards: Ancestral, Walk, Twister, Mana Drain and Force of Will (Was that 1996?).
When you say "White", you'll get Wrath, Geddon, Balance and Land Tax.
Again, I'm not saying Blue's cards have sucked after that (clearly there are still badass cards, and it's not arguable that it's MTG's best color), but White's have remained consistently powerful (if not better), probably because Blue is the best color.
I'm not trying to say this is 100% factually correct, but in my opinion, White has come on stronger over the past few years versus Blue. I think White's (the best word I can come up with and that I keep coming back to is) consistency is what makes it the 2nd best color as we stand.
Silent Edge's Tidbits of Wisdom: The Lewis Theory - When the presence of a single card makes every other card in your deck better (see Lewis, Ray). The Rubber Edict - You'd rather have it and not use it, than need it and not have it. The Shotgun Wedding - Don't commit early unless you absolutely have to.
In the past year maybe... but you can't say that white's been better since 1996, that's just crazy talk. Look at blue's top 20 list. Savage, savage cards.
They've been actively trying to reduce blue's power level over the past year. Cancel is the new standard over Counterspell? Yuck. However, that information is irrelevant for the cube, because there are already 55 blue cards that will most likely be better than the 55 cards from the other colors... no matter what efforts WotC takes towards making blue not as powerful. It's too late to save the cube from the power of blue. Plus, even with that in mind, they're still printing cards like Cryptic Command... and fearies. They're not doing a very good job of NOT printing good blue cards lol.

I'm always happy with Shining Shoal, direct damage in W and free a lot of times, gotta love it!
Ghostly Prison is a copy of Propaganda but still, always very effective. I also like Windborn Muse but a majority of the time less powerful as it has a body attached so it didn't make the cut.

I'm absolutely NOT saying white's been better. I am saying White's been more consistent, and I think that's what you're saying by WotC making a conscious effort to "power down" blue. We're both saying the same thing, just two different ways.
In the end, that's like trying to put out a fire by throwing another match on it.
Cube-wise, all this talk is irrelevant. We're taking the best of the best period.

In other news, it turns out that White Voting has brought out some new voters, and I'm still waiting on votes from some consistent members like: Calibretto, ranitpole, DerBK, Neonico, Darkmindtone and Donald_McDonald.

Just a bit of forethought, how are we planning to handle dual lands. It seems silly to rate underground sea vs Tundra vs Taiga since I don't think this is suppose to be a discussion about which color pairs are best.

that's an idea, but i think utility lands are the only lands that should really get a vote. i mean, there are only five different cycles of two color lands that are really worth including. (duals, rav duals, pain lands, karroos, and lorwyn hybrids) of course, that doesn't count fetch lands. i just think the lands we should be voting on are lands like treetop village, volrath's stronghold, city of brass, etc.

True Story.
I would be ok with rating them in with the utility lands as one entry, but could see how this would be problematic for some. I love duals, but would rarely if ever draft them P1P1.
I want to make sure we are doing separate voting for Gold and Hybrid. I hate that these two groups have become lumped together (I'm guilty of it too) seeing as they are practically functionally opposites. Split Cards are the only question mark. I can see an argument for them going in gold or hybrid. I think I would put them in gold, since I couldn't seeing myself playing many split cards in a mono color deck (as opposed to hybrids).

I typed up My Around Top 50 for Lands, and realized this. While I do think in Vintage or Legacy people value lands such as Underground Sea, Tundra or Tropical Island over lands like Scrubland and Savannah. That's because of the metagame. There is no set "meta" for the Cube, and whatever colors you're drafting will take precedence. So, what I did was group all the lands together. This was something I was going to point out, but for now the groups are broken down as follows:
I do have a pile of the Utility Lands listed as well, and I don't expect these groups to rank as high as some of the Utility Lands, but I wouldn't want someone's 11-20 vote to go to all the dual lands. In this format, at the most, you'll use 6 of your votes, leaving your 14 for the Utilities.

It had even crossed my mind to have everyone do both of these Top 20's at the same time -- it may actually clear up thinking, instead of doing one, then doing the other and coming to realize you forgot something. Just my twisted thinking.
I got a few more hours here before I shutdown White Voting, so for those people returning from the weekend (like myself), you have about 4-1/2 hours to complete your Top 20. I will shutdown White Voting at 12PM Pacific.

I've looked into this, and the more I do research, the more I think it's insane to try and separate the two. It's not difficult to come up with an Around 50 List for Gold, considering how long it's been around. However, it's tough, not only with an Around Top 50 for Hybrid, but to populate an Around Top 20.
Now, I'm not saying coming up with an Around Top 20 for Hybrids is impossible (which would be the most pointless thing I can do), but coming up with a Top 50 will be.
That being said, it's probably in our collective best interests to put Golds, Gold Splits, Hybrids and Apocaylpse-style Splits all in the same Multi-Color group.
