I just got my first promo material for M10 and it shows overlapping images of the Intro Packs. Most of the foil cards are not visible, but the red foil is clearly Shivan Dragon with the art by Donato G.
Edit: On closer inspection it is pretty clear that the black foil is Nightmare.
The white Intro Pack - which is the first pack in the row - has what appears to be a brand new card. The resolution is too low to read clearly, but I believe it is a paladin.
Wheeee my Shivvy's back. But the mofos brought in the worst of the artworks for it. All due respect to Giancola, Benson's art was just...more of a fit.

There are only so many red rares that are going to be reprinted from Xth edition. He means that the Dragon took up one of those spots.
On a more related note, hurray! Shivan dragon is one of my favorite cards for new players because its big and flashy. I always thought it was great in the core set.

You kidding me? Giancola's is so much better. The old one looks almost cartoonish.
Didn't we get a better generic-name Shivan Dragon in Alara? Why not reprint that one?
Shivan Dragon is arguably "THE" iconic dragon. Secondly, a repeatable Blaze in Core Set limited from Flameblast sounds... uh... over the top. Blaze/Consume Spirit are ridiculous in Tenth, for sure.

Simple, because we have one in Alara. Remember the two sets rotate out at the same time - what use is there in having Flameblast Dragon eat up a red slot in M10 when it's already in Shards block, and both will leave standard at the same time next year.
That said, not surprised at all by Shivvy. He was an old favorite, a definite icon, even if on the great scale of dragons he is mediocre at best. But it's about the flavor, and he is still a balanced dragon, but nothing incredible.

Why? this card has done nothing for standard ever, or really any format. It has no meaning beyond the fact that its an iconic but terrible card. They should have taken this opportunity to make a good dragon that is core set material.
@ Dano well at least it would be black bordered 7th edition... haha
Big disappointment here. With so little space for reprints, I didn't think they would put this in. I get the "generic" idea, but this is going too far. If this concept was taken as much as a priority through all the design process, this core may not be any better than any other, 50% new cards or not. I really hope this is an exception and not a rule. I don't want to buy 50% 7th edition.
Actually the set should have 25% or less of cards that were in 10th edition.
Noone ever complained about Shivan being in core before. It is still great in limited, which this core heavily supports.

Oh Shivi, Shivi, Shivi. Of course you're in M10. You're iconic, a classic, one of the first red creatures one thinks of when the name Magic: the Gathering springs to mind.
Do we know if it is Rare or Uncommon? Shivan was a beast back in the day, but could use Serra Angel demotion. My reaction is, "Shivan Dragon? I bet they'll print Islands too." I cannot communicate how much I don't care about this card. It is that blah.
If Drew Tucker or Ash Wood had done the illustration that'd be a different story.
Edit: The opposite of Serra Angel. I thought it used to be rare and was uncommon now. Wow, my head's in my butt.

Not a huge surprise, Shivan Dragon has to be just about the most iconic creature of the game, and it's not too bad at a rare- good for limited and it also sees play in many casual decks just for the cool value of beating people with Shivan(something you can't do in constructed anymore), also i've lost count of the number of people I know who collect dragons and this will add another edition and another foil version to their collections.
EDIT: Nightmare on the other hand is also pretty iconic, but lacks something when compared to Shivan and unfortunately with the format's removal not revolving around Terror/Dark Banishing or burn based removal it's usual strength of being a black creature outside of usual burn range is unfortunately irrelevent. Still solid for limited(less than shivan because it requires mono color(or heavy with a light splash of a 2nd color) and that makes the ones you open in the 2nd or 3rd pack much less useful), still fun in casual where people like playing mono colored decks and formats like star, but not nearly as collectable or cool as shivan.
I'm personally quite please with Shivan coming back. It's now in a set that I might actually be able to get a copy of it, because m10 will actually be worth drafting. It shows the pretty basic core of a dragon and is reasonably powerful. Is it as good as flameblast? No of course not. But it will still be good in draft and in some respects compares favorably to many other dragons we've seen of late. I hope to be getting one in the future.
Edit: Also as an aside, I don't see there's any way that Air Elemental is more iconic than Djinn. That being said I would be suprised to see Djinn in the set. I'm really not sure if genies are really the flavor they want. It's a creature type that has pretty much gone away entirely.
Edit: On closer inspection it is pretty clear that the black foil is Nightmare.

This is an iconic card, gotta keep it, even though it isn't indicative of the power of 6 cmc dragons anymore.

What does Shivan Dragon have to do with Assault?
Also, Justin Sweet art is the best.

Limited formats are formats too, y'know. I'm not saying this is a great card, but it will definitely see play in Sealed and Draft.
So far here's the iconics for each color:
White - Serra Angel
Black - Sengir Vampire
Red - Shivan Dragon
Green - ???
Blue - ???
What would be good picks for green and blue?
I see for green: Erhnam Djinn or Force of Nature
For blue: Mahamoti Djinn
Any other ideas for iconic creatures for those two colors?
Fixed?
Air Elemental is more iconic than Mahamoti Djinn, I think.
Interesting how all five color's iconic creature has flying.
Is Llanowar Elves back in?
If Drew Tucker or Ash Wood had done the illustration that'd be a different story.

Honestly, the most iconic card for Green is Craw Wurm.
