Here's my first EDH deck. I've been playing it about three months now, so I've already changed a number of cards, but I'm always looking for suggestions. And, yeah, the manabase is ultra-low budget, but I've never really had a problem.
It's great to combo-out. I milled everyone's decks the last time I played with Teysa + Painter's Servant + Extractor Demon + 3 tokens. Another week, I used Teysa + Nether Traitor + Phyrexian Altar to generate "infinite" mana that I dumped into a Consume Spirit. But even without combo-ing, this deck is still fairly resilient. It has enough sweepers and beaters to be a serious threat.
And the banning of Painter's Servant leads to another change. I don't really mind. I had comboed out enough times that I was bored with it, and now I know exactly what to cut for the Ghost Council I just traded for.
-Painter's Servant, +Ghost Council of Orzhova
Question is - is Extractor Demon still worth running without the infinite mill, or should he be the next to get axed?
EDIT - NV, he still has an infinite mill combo. Don't know what I was thinking.
Had a crazy game recently where Uril could have killed me, except he cast Mana Flare, giving me the mana I needed to drop Grave Pact and Ghost Council. Once I was there, Uril never connected again. He'd attack, and I'd sac, forcing him to Flickerform out.
You can still run the enchantment Darkest Hour for the Teysa combo.
Unfortunately, I am almost positive that this won't work. Darkest Hour turns all creatures black and just black, meaning you can't sac them to her ability.
To OP: B/W is my favorite color combo, and Teysa has been my baby deck since I got into the format. My slightly-out-of-date list is in my sig. I seem to run a slightly less combo-y and more tokensmash deck than you do, but you still might get something out of it. Butcher of Malakir is Grave Pact #2, and a resolved Storm Herd wins games really, really hard unless they have a hurricane effect. I have found the lifegain suite of Beacon of Immortality, Invincible Hymn, and Soul Warden to be of incredible value, getting me up to such heights that I almost can't lose. Also, I hope that Elspeth and Ajani are absent for purely budgetary reasons Hour of Reckoning is a nifty sweeper depending on just how token heavy you are going, and every black deck should have a Phyrexian Arena Lastly, what is your opinion of Zealous Persecution? I love the design, but never tested it because it felt like too small and temporary an effect for a format like EDH. Has your experience been to the contrary of that?

The infinite removal combo with Teysa won't work, but Darkest Hour is still a powerful enabler. Though it turns off Teysa's first ability, it still enables her second ability, allowing something like Blasting Station or Altar of Dementia to result in an instant table kill.

Very true. I've posted this on enough other Teysa threads.

This was my first EDH deck, and while I periodically change it up, I've invested most of my new cards to other EDH decks. I hesitate to add more tokens and Butcher just because I want to keep it different from my Savra deck. Although, if I were to run Darkest Hour for an Altar of Dementia combo, I would be really tempted to add Contamination because it works so awesome in my Savra deck. Shuts down most non-black decks.
Lastly, what is your opinion of Zealous Persecution? I love the design, but never tested it because it felt like too small and temporary an effect for a format like EDH. Has your experience been to the contrary of that?
I honestly can't remember the last time I drew the card. It's kind of a one-shot token hoser, but I haven't played against many token decks lately. It may end up on the chopping block eventually.
After searching so long for Seize the Soul, I've cut it after just one game. The instant speed removal and token generation is nice, but it just can't target enough things to be worth it. It was worthless in one game, where it seemed every creature was white or black. Besides, I've traded for a Debtor's Knell and needed a slot for it. Repeatable reanimation trumps spot removal, especially when it can double as spot removal if I reanimate the right stuff.
do you find yourself in trouble from artifacts/ enchantments looks like you have alters light, return to dust angel of despair and necrotic sliver with austere command back up. it just seems like sword of light and shadow could be aweful for this deck to deal with. among oter things.
