I have the first Planeswalker novel 'Agents of Artifice', and that was OK. Is 'The Purifying Fire' out yet? Is it any good? Was there any promo card deal like there was with 'Agents of Artifice'?

It's been out for a while now. There was no promo card, and it was only released in paperback. It was okay.

WoTC heavily edited the original book. So the mid-story climax stinks. But that't not the writers fault. It is Wotc's.

I never heard this before. How do we know what the book was like before editing?

I second that "what"? Little to no info is given to the writing process of any of the novels.

The author confirmed in on the WotC boards. The way in which Chandra and Gideon escaped from the dark plane (can't remember what it was called) was heavily edited, as were a few other parts of the book. But I don't know if I'd call that "heavy edited" or not.

And yes, Laura told us herself that she hadn't written that part. It was written in-house after she had already sent off her manuscript. |

You can find it at the WotC page for authors and storyline. I had made some comments about the nature of the sequence and the terrible conclusion of an otherwise great build up. The writer responded severally with the "not my fault; wotc edited two chapters down to 1 1/2 pages.

Sorry but the whole Diraden part was the part I disliked the most. I doubt two more chapters of it would rescue that part of the novel. I would love to know why Magic did that, considering how their editing skills are the reasons most of the bad novels are so bad

Isn't in-house editing the main reason why almost no one writes for Wizards anymore? It's not exactly a new issue, and it is why most of their good writers no longer publish in Wizard IP.

Incidentally, Resnick revealed that in her original draft Chandra and Gideon escaped Diraden (thanks, Barinellos) without the use of magic. They didn't just spontaneously have their powers back at the last second as in the released copy. It really makes me wonder why they did this. My guess is that they felt that they couldn't have a Magic book without a deus ex machina resolution in it.
(Okay, to be fair, the ending of the book was still a DEM, but maybe they felt the need to throw another one in there.) @ Ramenth - Really? I wasn't aware of this. Any examples you could share? Sounds like that'd be interesting to hear.
