I agree that Duel Decks may have originally been intended for newer players so they could pick it up and shuffle. However, I believe that many of the buyers are experienced players grabbing them for the foils and whatever rare might be in there.

Regardless of what products people used for this purpose before, if this product is to succeed Wizards had damn well better actually print some this time. If they continue with the severely limited print runs, it won't matter how well received the product is.

I thought fat pack were the next closest thing to the tournament decks since they are the only thing close to having enough lands and some form of customization.
Not to mention having multiple packs from mutiple sets would make it harder because the newcomer needs to take in more at the same time. This would be interesting as a sealed pool though.

Another product nobody will be able to get their hands on. Not that anyone would want to, but still.

As for availability, it sounds like they're gonna be printing a lot of these. Like...a LOT. Forever. This isn't a From the Vault. This isn't even a Duel Decks with limited edition promos. There will be a lower demand because this is aimed almost exclusively at new players, and it sounds like supply will be greater because it's not meant to be a rare product or limited edition. In fact, the most important part of this, as far as I can tell, is that the Arcana makes it sound like these will be available FOREVER. As in, the packs inside will change, the 44 random cards will change, and perhaps the 81 static cards will change, but it sounds like these will be in print for years to come.

I understand that WotC wants to favor the brick and mortar stores, because that is where the new players are created. But I dont see how punishing any type of store selling legitimate magic product helps anyone. Premiums like FTV and Vs. and such, sure, allocate them however you want, but online stores should always be able to sell basic, mainstream product. If I can buy it at Wal Mart, I should be able to buy it online as well. Also RE, you may appreciate this: http://www.symphonyofscience.com/ |

I like that first sentence.
"Do you have friends?" Seriously, though, people need to stop whining. New players need basic land and some packs and playables (or at least SOMETHING) to get started on building a deck. If you don't like these, don't buy them.

1. You're Canadian. This isn't a bad thing except for the fact that there's severely increased demand for sealed Magic product domestically and internationally, and it's easier/cheaper for them to increase supply domestically at the detriment of international vendors. Not saying it's right, but that has nothing to do with the Deck Builder's Toolkit. 2. There are too many special products. Duel Decks and From the Vaults are nice, and Planechase was awesome. Problem is, they need to print those, and doing so means they need to stop printing as much of the current sets as they are. If they were releasing these things at a slower pace then they'd be able to meet the increased demand. Again though, the issue isn't with the Deck Builder's Toolkit itself, and strictly with the pacing of these products. 3. You say they should focus on printing product that retailers like YOU want. Thing is, they seem to be showing less and less interest in retailers who deal exclusively with the interwebs, as brick and mortar stores are their lifeblood. Basically, your complaints should be about how Wizards (Though these orders most likely came down from Hasbro) is managing its resources. I know this is another one of those special products that I said there's too many of, but I think you're unfairly taking your anger out on this product.

Maybe I'm just a sucker for these kind of things, but I'll probably pick one up just to see how it's like. Maybe I'm just too casual of a player to care...
