Another good, thought provoking article about improving your game.
One word of caution: it's important to ask the right questions. Tracking a number just for the sake of tracking it is fine, although it makes your spreadsheet bigger. But ultimately you may find yourself looking at that number, even chasing it, without realizing what it is. Same goes with throwing out or ignoring data that could be potentially pretty important. MWS and MODO help you out in this regard, you can look at who was on the draw, what cards were played, what turns were critical, and how sideboard cards were used (if at all). |

I've been looking for a method like that for ages! Thank you for the article, I like the method. Was there a pre-made spreadsheet there? I know instructions were given on the information, but was there one available for download?

Send me a private message through my profile with your email or use the send a message via email function. The file isn't available for upload because the fill is too big for upload on mtgsalvation. If you give your email, I will forward the spreadsheet.

Very nice article. One thing that I would like to take a look at someday is at the MTGO Stats that WotC mention sometime.
By the way, the power ups are always in the upper left corner! Unless they're in the upper right corner, of course. |

I dunno.
I think a lot of magic players "over" prepare for events. I think people should be aware of the metagame but not a slave to it. The only way to become a better player is to just play more games against the toughest competition you can find. If your preparing for a big standard event play a lot of standard. Use MTGO or MWS. I liked the article but I just don't see how analyzing a metagame *really* helps.

I need to learn how to use MWS so I can test against decks without having to get friends down.
The problem I've ran into with Greenimator is that it's great to have that big fatty out, but a lot of times the board position is such that even the presence of the huge creature is not enough to swing it back to my favor. Going with Birds and Hierarchs might be the way to go about this. At best, you're ramping out on turn 3. At worst, they're removal soak. Then again, Archangel and Iona are pretty hard to remove as is. It's an interesting concept, and I really think it can go somewhere. I particularly enjoy not playing whatever is the Jund-type-deck of the time, and just being a little different. These articles lately have enabled that for me, which is great. Caveat: I've not got to test a lot with it though, I must say. My observations might just be attributed to limited testing, and the issue is not present amongst a larger data set. |

My green trap deck got a shout out on Wizards.com today.
Paul Richardson's deck. Not the best tuned version but still it is nice to see Summoners Trap getting a little love. |
