This is my first deck created for EDH now Commander. I built its first incarnation around February of 2010, and now this is where is at following Scars of Mirrodin. This build uses the suggested banned list from the Official Website.
This deck is really fun to play because it lets you play some pretty tough to deal with threats and while I mainly play 1v1 I think this list maybe works better with multiplayer in mind. Even after playing it for quite some time I find new interactions. Nowadays I usually pull this out after I get tired of playing blue (so not that often).
This list is not 100% done (especially since I am not looking to win every single game), maybe EDH decks never are. So I would be happy to hear what you think about this deck and card choices etc.
Kresh the Bloodbraided - I loved Bloodbraid Elf so much I wanted to cascade into something cool from anywhere in the history of Magic. Then I learned EDH was awesome and Bloodbraid Elf sucks in it. What I was left with is a pretty sweet deck that synergizes with Kresh enough to make me happy to cast him, or leave him waiting to be commanded.
Barren Moor - I added a set of lands that cycle because I never wanted to be mana screwed and they cycle on the cheap later. You can also just replay them with Crucible of Worlds which is pretty cool.
Forgotten Cave - I added a set of lands that cycle because I never wanted to be mana screwed and they cycle on the cheap later. You can also just replay them with Crucible of Worlds which is pretty cool.
Graven Cairns - I run the full set of filter lands. These are great for the color intensive spells.
Lavaclaw Reaches - My least favorite manland. I cannot remember if I have ever even activated it in a game of commander, but it beats the crap out of other duals that enter the battlefield tapped.
Strip Mine - Often screws up your opponents when they are land light, can also be combined with Crucible of Worlds. Only do this when you are trying to make new friends...
Terramorphic Expanse - When you need fixing you do what you gotta do. I should just go ahead and play off-color fetchlands but it just wouldn't feel right.
Tranquil Thicket - I added a set of lands that cycle because I never wanted to be mana screwed and they cycle on the cheap later. You can also just replay them with Crucible of Worlds which is pretty cool.
Treetop Village - The second oldest manland? Now with trample!
Twilight Mire - I run the full set of filter lands. These are great for the color intensive spells.
Verdant Catacombs - I am only playing on-color fetches but they can retrieve any of the 6 fetchable duals.
Vesuva - Copies any of the best land in play for the mere cost of entering the battlefield tapped. You can also use it to destroy legendary lands like Academy Ruins.
Wooded Foothills - I am only playing on-color fetches but they can retrieve any of the 6 fetchable duals.
Creatures - 27
Abyssal Persecutor - He is like a 4 mana titan, combined with haste and shroud he can destroy people before they can set up their game plan. He has only been a liability to me once (so far).
Elvish Piper - This creature allows some seriously broken things in this format. I think he must be a shoot on sight kind of threat. Flashing in a Terastodon and following it up with a Violent Ultimatum or something is always GG.
Lord of Extinction - I like this big dude mostly for the lols. I think I have busted 60/60 with him. I used to use Bloodshot Cyclops with him, but this deck is changing a bit.
Master of the Wild Hunt - I like tokens in this deck if you haven't noticed. This guy is also a master of reusable targeted removal.
Hammer of Bogardan - Reusable 3 damage, but it comes at a hefty mana cost. Still it has its utility.
Living Death - A fun card, it is sweet to have in your hand early especially with cards that allow you to load your graveyard with dudes like Survival of the Fittest.
Maelstrom Pulse - Almost Vindicate, a sweet spell and it occasionally wraths a flock of tokens.
Lurking Predators - My favorite card in this deck. So fun to roll the dice everytime someone else plays a spell. Works so great with Volrath's Stronghold too!
Pernicious Deed - When someone has this card they control all of the action.
Survival of the Fittest - Well if it is good enough to be banned in Legacy, it is perfect for this format!
Sylvan Library - You know when you top, and you think to yourself, "god I wish I could just pay 8 life to draw all of these cards!" now you can. It is the best card to cast on turn 2.
