Well looks like we should start by designing some cards/themes
White traditionally has a weenie agression as it's main theme. With it's other theme being the second half of Blue white or Black white Control.
I propose we build our 55 white section with 29 white creatures. This reflects that white is more agro centric than other colors, but doesn't push it to green's range.

Speaking of this... Do we only want to include core abilities, or do we want to include expansion abilities? What about custom abilities? (or keywords, w/e)
I would stay away from custom keyword abilities. But I think everything else is fair game. It's not like staying away from custom keyword cards limits us in anyway
Like for years I had a keyword I was playing around with called Spell Component.
I could do either of these cards.
~ R
Sorcery
~ Deals 2 damage to target creature/player.
Spell Component - As an additional cost to play this you may discard a land card. If you do copy ~. You may choose new targets.

It doesn't really change anything. We would have to list the reminder on every card with the ability anyways.

One of Three things seems to be needed for a white one drop to be cubable.
1. The card needs to be good now, but still relevant turn 3.
2. The card needs to have a power/mana ratio greater than 1:1.
3. The card needs to get bigger.
someone from the PTCW thread submited this card.
Flyguy W
Creature - Bird
Echo W
Flying
2/1
From the list that we have available Fly guy fills two of these rolls. He has evasion and he has a power ratio of 2:1. It's a fine card and I would cube with it in my real cube.
Bird isn't even a horrible creature type. I could see us supporting it some time in the Tribal set. Or we could change it to a cleric.
Someone else submited this card
Skyknight Trainee W
Creature - Human Knight

Level up: w
{Level 2-3} First Strike, 2/2

Amazingly enough they submited it before Student of Warfare was spoiled. This card fills number 3 out quite well.
Also I think we should either reprint or make a functional reprint of Savannah Lions or Isamaru, Hound of Konda? Thoughts?
Now I should try to submit an idea to this thread that is original in some way.

I like the morph cleric. But then again I always loved morph.
I'm not a big fan of the Avatar Spirit. But that's because I don't think we should be focusing on tribal in the base set.
The protection bird seems like it really needs a point of power. Otherwise its just a good blocker. Which isn't what you want your 1 drops to be doing. Same with Aven Errant.
Tithe spirit is kind of interesting.
Skirtish Recruit I think is the best card you listed though. It's a 2/2 for 1 which is something we want. It has bizaro exalted which is kind of neat.
Also why are you including rarity? I don't think we are going to assign rarity to any of these cards since it has no baring on the cube.

Since I've liked Level Up as a mechanic thus far, I'm going to add a couple here to the list. One of them is a two-drop.
Lightning Spirit W
Creature -- Elemental Spirit
First stike. 1/1
Level Up: 1W
[Level 1] 2/2
First strike, flying.
[Level 3+] 4/4
First strike, flying.
Angelic Spirit WW(maybe this should be 1W, resulting in a 3/4 creature for 2WW instead of 1WWW)
Creature -- Angel Spirit
Lifelink. 2/2
Level Up: 1W
[Level 1] 3/4
Lifelink, flying.
[Level 3+] 5/5
Lifelink, flying. (this should perhaps include vigilance for the ultimate payoff)
The first is an homage to Thunder Spirit, of course. The second is my take on a level up angel. It should be somewhere between Battlegrace Angel and Exalted Angel in power level.
Magus of the *bum bum bum* Land Tax!!! W

Does angel turn off on lvl 2?
I love this card. As mentioned above, Tax Collector is an awesome name. Make it a Human Bureaucrat!
Here's my take on the one drops proposed thus far. My thought in bold:
Flyguy W
creature - Bird
echo W
flying
2/1
I'm a bit worried about the power level. The 2/2 echo one drops are already cube worthy (albeit in other colors). I think breaking the 2 power flying one drop barrier would be a mistake.
Something Lion W
Creature - Cat
~ gets +1/+1 for every three plains you control
1/1
Not good enough, I'm thinking. He's underpowered at every phase of the game. Maybe gets a +1/+1 counter whenever you play a plains, but it caps at 3/3, or you have to sac him if he gets above 3/3 or something.
Skyknight Trainee W
Creature - Human Knight
1/1
Level up: w
{Level 2-3} First Strike, 2/2
{Level 4+} Flying, First Strike, 4/2
I like the idea but I think the last ability is too cheap. You shouldn't be able to get a 4 power flyer turn three from a one drop. Mae it level 6-7, or tone down the ability (drop the flying for example.
Kird Dude W
Creature - Human Soldier
~ Gets +1/+2 if you control three or more plains.
1/1
Might not be cube worthy without the ability to swing for two on turn two.
Creature — Human Cleric (C) W
Sacrifice CARDNAME: Prevent all combat damage that would be dealt this turn.
1/1
I'm not a fan of fog effects and I'm not sure they make a 1/1 for 1 playable.
Creature — Spirit (R) W
Whenever you cast a spell, CARDNAME gets +1/+1 until end of turn for each white mana symbol in that spell’s mana cost.
0/1
Seems interesting. I think he'd have to be a 1/1 though.
Creature — Human Cleric (U) W
Morph W (You may cast this face down as a 2/2 creature for 3. Turn it face up any time for its morph cost.)
When CARDNAME is turned face up, exile target creature.
1/2
More of a three drop than a one drop, but too powerful, I'm thinking.
Creature — Avatar Spirit (U) W
Flying
CARDNAME’s power and toughness are equal to the number of spirits in your graveyard.
*/*
Too few spirits for it to not start at 1/1
Creature — Bird (M) W
Protection from creatures.

Aven Errant W
Creature — Bird Soldier (C)

0/2
Not cube worthy
Favored One W
Creature — Human Knight (U)
Shroud (This permanent can’t be the target of spells or abilities.)

Confusing and not powerful enough.
Pathlayer Spirit W
Creature — Spirit (R)
Flying

1/1
I like it a lot
Skittish Recruit W
Creature — Human Soldier (C)
As long as Skittish Recruit isn’t attacking alone, it gets +1/+1.
1/1
Still worse than 2/1's and 2/2's which we are getting pretty regularly now in cube.
Falchion Cadet- W
Creature-Human Soldier
First strike
Whenever ~ attacks, it gets +1/+1 until end of turn.
1/1
Too powerful. WW doesn't care about defense, and a 2/2 First Strike for 1 is too much.
Bird Dude W
Creature-Bird Soldier
Flying
When ~ enters the battlefield, target opponent gains 1(2?) life.
2/1
I wish this card were balanced, but the amount of life you'd have to give them would be really high. 4-5 probably. A 2/1 flyer in white is just too good for 1.
Militant Shieldmage W
Creature - something relevant
W: ~ gets +1/+2 until end of turn. Use only once per turn.
Morph (1 colorless/white)
~ is turned face up with a +1/+1 counter.
1/1 or 1/2
There's a lot of alternatives how to make this, but the basic idea would for it to be:
-relevant 1-drop.
-morph
-bigger when morphed. (also, I think this ability has cycle/other potential)
But I admit, it became quite wordy.
Too much. Just give him the +1/+2 pump and call it a day.
Combat Master W
Creature- something relevant
Double Strike
1/1
or, if that's too good with equipment, but we have other pump
You'd have to make him a 0/1 to give a one drop first strike.
Martial Artist W
Creature - Monk
Double Strike unless equipped
1/1
Nice project!
Still too much I'm thinking, but more reasonable.
Blessed One W
Creature - Something relevant
W: +1/+1 UEOT
1/1
Sister of the Silent Lamb W
Creature - Human Cleric
Protection from all colors
1/1
Interesting I guess, but tough to abuse on offense.
Kithkin Javelineers W
Creature - Kithkin Soldier
~ enters the battlefield with a javelin counter on it.
T, Remove a javelin counter from ~: ~ deals 2 damage to target creature or player.
1/1
Solid. I like it.
Kor Skyknight W
Creature - Kor Cleric Knight
Flying
When ~ ETB target opponent gains 2 life.
2/1
Maybe if we combine the echo and the gain life idea, we could have a balanced 2/1 flyer for two.
Fragile Lion W
When ~ is the target of a spell or effect, sacrifice it.
2/2
Slightly worse than Isamaru. Too fragile for white flavor?
Mufasa W
Trample
2/1
I like the weenies getting trample in white, because it goes well with anthems and equipment. Lions should trample anyway.
Pickpocket W
T: Tap Target Creature
1/1
The logical evolution of the tap creatures
Fireside Lion W
Protection from Red
2/1
I like white being the protection color. Maybe these guys need a drawback though.
Bogdweller Lion W
Protection from Black
2/1
I like white being the protection color. Maybe these guys need a drawback though.
W
1: Target Creature you control gains protection from red, blue, green or black. Use this ability once per turn.
1/1
Better than Mother of Ruins due to the lack of tapping, but no help versus white. Might be too good.
Broodmate Soldier W
Creature - (Kithkin/Kor/Human) Soldier
When ~ etb, put a 1/1 (maybe kithkin/kor) soldier token onto the battlefield.
1/1
Seems solid and not too crazy powerful.
Lightning Spirit W
Creature -- Elemental Spirit
First stike. 1/1
Level Up: 1W
[Level 1] 2/2
First strike, flying.
[Level 3+] 4/4
First strike, flying.
Hmmm. Cut flying from the level 1 and I think it balanced.
Magus of the *bum bum bum* Land Tax!!! W
Creature - Human Wizard
At the beginning of your upkeep, if an opponent controls more lands than you, you may search your library for up to three basic land cards, reveal them, and put them into your hand. If you do, shuffle your library.
1/1
Love it.
Father of Runes W
When ~ ETB, creatures you control gain protection from the colour of your choice until EOT
2WW: Exile ~ then return it to play under its owner's control.
1/1
Hmmm. Needs flash to really be useful but then it would be overpowered. I like the exile mechanic though.
Protection Buddy W
Flash
When ~ ETB, target creature gains protection from the colour of your choice until EOT
When ~ ETB, you may pay 2. If you do, return it to your hand.
0/2
3 mana for a buyback counter for spot removal is too good.
Ambush Blocker W
First Strike, Flash
1/1
Not cube worthy in either control or aggro.
Little Helper W
Either ~ ETB with a +1/+1 counter on it, or when ~ ETB put 2 +1/+1 counters on another target creature
0/1
Not cube worthy, unless I'm misunderstanding.
Pianna's Son W
When ~ attacks, up to 3 target attacking creatures +1/+1 until EOT
0/1
Interesting, but still a tad underpowered? Togh to say. Maybe it could be "Choose up to three target attackers you control, the first gets +1/+1, the second +2/+2, and the third +3/+3?
Prarie Wildcat -
Creature - Cat Landfall - Whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control, you may have Prarie Wildcat gain +2/+0 until end of turn.
If you played 2 or more lands this turn, sacrifice Prarie Wildcat at the beginning of your end step. "The wildcats here do grow hungry, but even during the hunting seasons -- they have their limits."
2/1
You can swing for 4 on turn 2, which is in itself insane -- but it'll never be more than that (unless you're brave enough to play it on turn 1, then fetch land on turn 2 -- swing for 6 and sac him). The creature (without Equips/Athems, etc) can potentially swing for a lot (especially since I've no idea what Green cards will allow us to play more than one land a turn), but you will have to sacrifice him at the end of turn. I was considering a Landfall/anti-Landfall deal where it would get a +1/+1 counter on the Landfall, then get -1/-1 until the beginning of your next end step whenever your opponent played a land -- but there's not really a way to take advantage of that as it's completely random -- seems like more of a Red abilitiy. With that Landfall/Anti-Landfall, I had him as a 2/2. Given the way he's designed now, he's more fitting and a little more fragile (read: balanced) as a 2/1.
Silent Edge's Tidbits of Wisdom: The Lewis Theory - When the presence of a single card makes every other card in your deck better (see Lewis, Ray). The Rubber Edict - You'd rather have it and not use it, than need it and not have it. The Shotgun Wedding - Don't commit early unless you absolutely have to.
There are way too many cards being suggested that are better than Savannah Lions. I think a lot of them need drawbacks if they are going to be better than a 2/1 for W.
There are way too many cards being suggested that are better than Savannah Lions. I think a lot of them need drawbacks if they are going to be better than a 2/1 for W.
I agree, although if we follow the cubes example we can have at least one card that is strictly better than Savanah Lions.
Prarie Wildcat - W
Creature - Cat
Landfall - Whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control, you may have Prarie Wildcat gain +2/+0 until end of turn.
If you played 2 or more lands this turn, sacrifice Prarie Wildcat at the beginning of your end step.
"The wildcats here do grow hungry, but even during the hunting seasons -- they have their limits."
2/1
Yeah, this guy is way too good. Make him a 1/1 and say "if his power is ever 4 or more, sacrifice him". I think that would be more balanced.
I think you are right about Kird dude. What if we changed it to "Kird Dude gets +1/+2 if you control two or more plains". That way he attacks for two turn two.
It looks like we are going to be dropping the mono colored sections to 55 from 60. So we are going to need to trim the white 1 drop creature from 6 to five.
I really like the two protection lions. I think they could go into the CW01 and CW02 slot with no problem. While they probably do need a slight draw back, I like the idea of how simple they currently are.
Tax Collector is the best card suggested so far. I'm glad someone suggested it. That way we don't have to make a land taxish enchantment for the spell section. I have no problem with it being CW04. Bureaucrat isn't a supported creature type anymore. Not saying we can't use it but they have all been errated to be Advisors now. I think we have a few options.
1. Keep it a Bureaucrat
2. Make it a wizard. It would probably get some tribal set when/if we do a tribal set.
3. Make it a cleric. You know the white version of a wizard
4. Make it an advisor.
There have been a few suggestions of level up creatures but I'm not wowed by any of them.
I also like the icitian Javleniers 2.0. If we don't use it for this set it should be saved for an expansion.
Bird Dude
Creature-Bird Soldier
Flying
When ~ enters the battlefield, target opponent gains 1(2?) life.
2/1
I wish this card were balanced, but the amount of life you'd have to give them would be really high. 4-5 probably. A 2/1 flyer in white is just too good for 1.
Lets assume the card would have a gain 2 life clause tacked onto it. I'm not sure how much better this thing would be than Suntail Hawk.
Lets compare two games. In one game you play a turn 1 suntail hawk. The other game you play a turn 1 bird dude. We can ignore other creatures/ bonuses you play because they arent important to this discussion.
Turn 1 Play Hawk: Opponents life 20
Turn 2 Attack with hawk: Opponents life 19
Turn 3 Attack with hawk: Opponents life 18
Turn 4 Attack with hawk: Opponents life 17
Turn 1 Play Bird dude: Opponents life 22
Turn 2 Attack with Bird dude: Opponents life 20
Turn 3 Attack with bird dude: Opponents life 18
Turn 4 Attack with Bird dude: Oppoents life 16
You have to get to wait 4 turns for this card to be better than Suntail hawk. A card no one thinks is cubable. I think it's fair.

That's the remarkable thing about life. It's never so bad that it can't get worse
Calvin and Hobbes Cube Tutor
We can throw conventional wisdom out of the window for this, i think. Isamaru is strictly better than Lion in cube and it's just fine. We play with powered cubes, we shouldn't shy away from creating a few cards that break the limits of what's usually acceptable.
We don't do that in the "Print This Wizards" thread and I don't think we should here. a 2/1 for W with pro black or white is a little too nutty, imo. Isamaru gets away with it because he's a legend and cube is just lucky that that sort of thing isn't a big deal. If you wanted to make the Protection Lions legendary, I would have no problem with it.

I have no qualms with this. We are basically saying Protection Lions die to clone effects. This has no baring on the cube on the cube but it does make it seem like these two cards would be made outside of cube land. Do we still want to keep them lions?
Come to think about it, Someone is going to need to be an art direct very fricken quick.

I'd have to agree, this seems reasonable.
I love creating cards, so here's my attempt at it:
Fading Warrior W
Creature - Human Soldier
Whenever ~ attacks or blocks, put a [charge] counter on it. Then, if there are 3 or more counters on it, sacrifice it.
2/2
Pro Cleric W
Creature - Human Cleric
Flash, multikicker 1
When ~ etb, you may have X creatures gain protection from the color of your choice until end of turn where X is the amount of times it was kicked.
1/1
War Falcon W
Creature - Bird Soldier
Whenever ~ attacks, put a -1/-1 counter on it.
At the beginning of your end step, if ~ is untapped, you may remove a counter from it.

The problem with the first and third card (I'm assuming the third one is supose to have flying) is that they are mechanically complex. Not that they are hard to understand. But for a W drop each of these is going to have counters constantly popping on and off of them.
Also if we were to do the first card I would prefer
Lionderm W
Creature - Cat
Shroud, Fading 3-4

Flyguy W

Now I should try to submit an idea to this thread that is original in some way.

My ideas. Just kinda spitballing here.

1/1
Not good enough, I'm thinking. He's underpowered at every phase of the game. Maybe gets a +1/+1 counter whenever you play a plains, but it caps at 3/3, or you have to sac him if he gets above 3/3 or something.

Bird Dude W
Creature-Bird Soldier
Flying
When ~ enters the battlefield, target opponent gains 1(2?) life.
2/1
I wish this card were balanced, but the amount of life you'd have to give them would be really high. 4-5 probably. A 2/1 flyer in white is just too good for 1.
Militant Shieldmage W
Creature - something relevant
W: ~ gets +1/+2 until end of turn. Use only once per turn.
Morph (1 colorless/white)

1/1 or 1/2
There's a lot of alternatives how to make this, but the basic idea would for it to be:
-relevant 1-drop.
-morph
-bigger when morphed. (also, I think this ability has cycle/other potential)
But I admit, it became quite wordy.

Draft my cube!
Watch me stream!

3/2

360 Peasant Cube!
Custom Cube
RWU Miracles RWU
The problem with the first and third card (I'm assuming the third one is supose to have flying) is that they are mechanically complex. Not that they are hard to understand. But for a W drop each of these is going to have counters constantly popping on and off of them.
Also if we were to do the first card I would prefer
Lionderm W
Creature - Cat
Shroud, Fading 3-4
2/2
