So this previously was my Horde of Notions deck. I AGAIN changed the deck. This is essentially what I think of when people say "spirit of EDH". This deck is THE MOST fun deck I have ever made. The deck is a 40 land 5 color mana base that stays constant. The rest of the deck is a large stack of cards, of which I choose a random 59 to go into the deck before a game. This way, the deck is random, fun, and different EVERY game. I LOVE it and its a blast to way. Most of the cards are just powerful EDH staples or bomb spells that are great for EDH. The generals are also interchangeable as there is no consistent synergy:
So thats basically my deck. A random pile of cards formed before every game. I run the even split on all colors for the most part because I dont know what the curve will turn into so meh. I will be adding around 50 cards in the next few days.
Every sliver on this list serves a purpose. There are no wasted slots on slivers. I painfully realized this list just a few days ago, and I won't lie, I did not think i would cut so many slivers out.
Out of the 11 other slivers, 8 of them directly supplement Overlord. They can be tutored and with the exception of Fury Sliver, they are relatively cheap to cast. 3 Slivers offer evasion, 3 offer resilience, and 1 stops counterspells.
Necrotic Sliver and Queen are you combo slivers if you can manage to or are forced to combo out. An opponent with no permanents usually results in a victory by scoop.
The next section unfortunately is the most expensive to make stable. Lands.
I'm fortunate to have the lands that I do and credit all success the deck has to the land base. For the sake of brevity my land list.
To be clear, Rainbow Lands are lands that can produce 1 Mana of any color.
Thanks to hindsight, I found this deck is all in or nothing. You can play with a budget land base. Prepare to suffer its wrath. It is in my opinion the biggest weakness against other decks. It is slow, even with a set of revised duals and fetch lands. I run many mana fixers and still come up short here and there.
I'll stop here. Keep this in mind if you consider making this a serious or main deck of your choice. Check out the link in my sig for some lengthy discussion, decklists and history. My last list posting is not up to date. There are empty slots and cards are constantly getting cut.
Thanks for the post man. If I was to make this deck cutthroat competitive deck then theres a lot I would change. This deck is purely for fun and for kicks. My sliver list would be a lot different since my meta doesnt play very many counterspells. We all play EDH for fun and as such, I dont need a killer competitive deck.
This deck kinda just does whatever to be honest. 5 color stable manabases are quite expensive and I wouldnt mind making the investments if need be since they are sound investments.
I'm happy to hear you are keeping it casual. I got into edh when a friend decided to build Momir Vig. He xeroxed miscacul8drisks Vig list. I had a lot of slivers on hand from the Premium decks and figured this would be my deck and I was going to try and break it in half to keep up. His brother is now playing a Sharuum deck. It is tough to keep up with two broken ass decks like that.
Anyways. M10 Duals and Scars Duals are your budget friends. Those manlands you are looking into will not cut it. All your lands should have the option or potential to come into play untapped.
Check your local store for some Mirage fetch lands, I used these as substitutes for my lack of Onslaught fetches.
Avoid mana intensive cards like Progenitus. It can be hard for me to get Overlord into play consistently. I could never imagine dropping Progenitus even with my lands.
Rupture Spire is probably the cheapest rainbow land in the game. It is slow but worthwhile.
If you do get some duals, even Ravnica, swap Shard Convergence for Skyshroud Claim. Two forest cards into play untapped is nasty fixing.
Try to stay at 40 lands or less. It's tempting to go over in an effort to find consistency, but the rest of your deck will suffer.
Cut some of those slivers! After playing some games, go back and look at your slivers and weed out the ones you are not constantly tutoring for.
Homing Sliver sticks out so bad. He does what your general does and is lousy outside of his ability.
Acidic Sliver has too much competition in Necrotic Sliver, and without a Queen you cant afford to sacrifice your other slivers for an insignificant effect.
Horned Sliver broke my heart. Three bucks for that guy! Another sliver with too much competition inside the brood. Flying is better and Shifting Sliver is better than flying.
Crypt Sliver falls prey to one of your best slivers in the deck; Crystalline Sliver. Clot Sliver is fine, try to get Sedge Sliver.
Might Sliver. Simply outclassed by Muscle, Sinew, and Legion. Expensive to boot. A free slot if you ask me.
Brood Sliver used to be real popular with me, until I picked up a Queen. Try to ditch this one if you can. If you are swinging through, Brood is helping you win. Not winning for you.
Quick Sliver is cute, but chances are you won't have a lot to do on other players turns. It is good synergy with Seedborn Muse but even that card made the chopping block.
Shapesharer. Bad. Clone is more flexible and Amoeboid Changeling out shines this guy.
Grave Titan. Doesn't make slivers. Enough said.
Rampaging Baloths. See grave titan.
This brings up Overlords second ability. It is really just a trick. If you can get a couple creatures out of it, cool. Try not to seek it out or fall back on it.
Terrastodon isn't terrible, probably the only creature next to Sun Titan I would keep if I had to. Chances are the elephants they get can't handle your slivers.
Finally, Wurmcoil Engine is again out classed by your own Slivers and Mitotic Slime just doesn't belong.
All those suggestions really help! Thanks! The slivers you mentioned are actually the first ones I would cut as well. Rather than being just a sliver deck, this deck is more of just a mash together of the sliver precon, with some slivers i acquired, and a bunch of random cards that I liked.
Question for you though, after I cut all those slivers and some of the other cards you mentioned, what would you suggest I put in? I will definitely be playing shard convergence.
As for the manabase, I dont mind lands coming into play tapped as yes I lose tempo, but in a large 6 player game, slowplaying is my best friend. In my play group, I see lots of wrath effects and such, therefore, I am hoping I can steal a few kills with manlands. A lot of this deck is actually stuff I had in my binder such as a lot of the land base. I started getting back into magic at the release of m11 and as such, I have a lot of standard stuff. Thats why most of the manabase is standard legal.
Coat of Arms. This card is way too risky to run, even in a sliver deck. Sliver Legion is a 7/7 Coat of Arms that only effects other slivers. Having both Legion and Door of Destinies is more than enough.
Temple Bell. This card does more than just take up a 3cmc slot. Replace this with Rhystic Study or anything else that draws only you a card. Activating baby Jace should be the only time anyone else draws a card off you.
Distant Melody. If you can spare five bucks, replace this card with Fact or Fiction. You will find that you never have enough slivers out to make this one worthwhile.
Wild Pair is another card that suffers from all the creature cuts. Muscle and Sinew also skew the effects of the cards as the creatures enter the battlefield with a higher power and toughness, reducing your selection when it triggers. If possible, replace this card with Mirari's Wake. Mana Reflection is also suitable.
Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker is a card I am on the fence with. He looks real good on paper, but some posters here that play Thraximundar and other Grixis color generals say he is too slow. I haven't played with him. If you feel he is slowing you down, kick him to the curb.
My next post I'll get into some more adds. This deck relies on a lot of tech and utility. Keep that in mind.
Yes, atleast now I know I think in lines of good EDH players
Have the cuts you told me to make, I have already considered making, just waiting on getting the cards. I love playing EDH, but I also love standard and am slowly getting into extended. As of right now, EDH is a low want as its just casual and the decks work fine so no worries. I worked on my enchantress a LOT and after making boros, valakut, and questvine in standard, my trade is depleted. I am trying to make that elephant EDH deck, finish ashling EDH, work ont his deck, and build an extended deck. Having said all that, I will slowly acquire the cards you named. Most of them are very cheap but its hard to find people who bring older cards to an LGS these days :/
Again, when it comes around, I will be cutting a LOT of cards since they are just fun cards aka elspeth, ulamog, etc.
Standard is at such a high right now. Money cards everywhere. You could probably finance all three of your edh decks just by going top 4 every week at fnm.
Most of my suggestions are based on how I run my deck, so I encourage you and everyone else playing slivers to find their own rhythm and adjust accordingly to your meta.
Let me know what has been working and what hasn't been doing so well. The discussion in other threads has pretty much fizzled and Overlord threads tend to pop up for a short time and die out.

Yea standard is at a high. I havent been playing much cuz of winter break. I bought my primevals in september and have gotten 1st or 2nd in every fnm for a few months and the winnings helped me build the other decks. I will slowly get back into that once FNM roars up again.
I will definitely be updating in here and thanks for all your help once again.
That is a ridiculous change. Your general is just for the colors completely now isn't he? If so, why not run the Child of Alara with High Market, etc just in case? Gifts Ungiven is on the banlist if you go by that though, sadly. I'd like to use it in a few decks.

Yea i just changed the whole deck essentially. I didnt want to start a new thread and spam the forums so I changed everything. The general at the moment is horde of notions. I changed from sliver overlord but didnt change the title until after you posted. Sorry.
My playgroup is fine with me using gifts ungiven as I dont do anything broken with it. I will most likely just go grab some fun cards with it. Its not a combo deck in any way so gifts isnt a problem.
Of course I announce it before games so there are no angry players.
Seems legit to me. You have some interesting stuff going on with your new stuff. I have to click half of them to remember what they do, but it seems you are going more with various ways to beat face. I need to get a Sen Triplets for my Overlord deck.
What made you decide to change generals and your theme, response to your main opponents decks, or did you want a change of pace?

Yea a lot of the cards are just random t2 and extended creatures that never saw play from my end so I threw them in. I changed the theme because this is more fun. Slivers were kinda boring and one sided. If there wasnt a sweeper in a 2-3 turn span mid-late game, I would win no doubt. I like this a lot more.
I think what I might try to do is keep the 40 land mana base and keep a stack of around 120 cards that COULD go in the deck. Then before each EDH game, I would just shuffle up and randomly add in 60 of them. This would make the 100 card deck and make it A LOT more fun for me.
That would be a pretty interesting way to play, and not be hated off the table. I've also noticed the same thing about Slivers being left unchecked, so I took out a ton as well. Who do your main opponents run as generals?

Most of the people at my LGS play a lot of casual EDH so I am not too worried about playing cutthroat. I dont see many of the popular bomb generals being played often either. Most of us RARELY cast our generals at all.
Now I gotta find a ton of cards that I wanna run in this deck.
Random "Spirit of EDH" deck...... I think that's extremely cool really.
I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not :/
But regardless, yea I thought it was a pretty cool idea. I can say its definitely the most fun edh deck I own. Every game is just slinging big spells and having fun. The fact that its random every time makes it EVEN better. I realized that even with 100 cards singleton, my other decks had enough synergy and tutoring and whatnot to make the deck function almost like a regular consistent deck aka the games were pretty much the same every time.
I will be adding more and more cards to this and removing some as time goes on.

Trying to do all three, in my experience, loses games.
At the moment, I'm testing a build that trys at all costs to win via general damage. It is working wonders and I couldn't be more happy.
Now that we have that out of the way, lets start with the core of your deck. The Slivers!

1 Hull Breach
Vindicate and Maelstrom Pulse may be out of reach. Pulse should be a bit easier to trade for as it just cycled out of standard in October.

Some more cuts here for you.

Most of the people at my LGS play a lot of casual EDH so I am not too worried about playing cutthroat. I dont see many of the popular bomb generals being played often either. Most of us RARELY cast our generals at all.
Now I gotta find a ton of cards that I wanna run in this deck.

Rasputin: Reality is Broken
Vish Kal Bleeder: Bloody Kisses
Teysa, Orzhov Dominatrix
Stonebrow: Breaking Things
BWR Kaalia Punisher: Heaven's on Fire
Grimgrin: Dead Reckoning
I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not :/
But regardless, yea I thought it was a pretty cool idea. I can say its definitely the most fun edh deck I own. Every game is just slinging big spells and having fun. The fact that its random every time makes it EVEN better. I realized that even with 100 cards singleton, my other decks had enough synergy and tutoring and whatnot to make the deck function almost like a regular consistent deck aka the games were pretty much the same every time.
I will be adding more and more cards to this and removing some as time goes on.
