Banner by Lizard2033 Catastrophe Month. A supporting tribute to Japan's crisis. At this point, everyone knows about the unfortunate events ocurred the last days. The whole world was touched by them and keeps crossed fingers and an eye on the media to follow the events, minute by minute. Since it couldn't be any other way, MTGSalvation's Artwork thread adds to that feeling. The best of lucks for all the affected. This month I'm proposing you two options from whose you'll be able to choose from: A* The first one is to alter a non-catastrophic related art, turning it into a mess. For example, take a Bazaar of Baghdad and turn that regular shopping day into a scene of siege; or take High Market or Leyline of Anticipation and drop an hurricane there (or two.) If you decide to make a full-original alter, the card must still beign non catastrophic (you can't make your full-original art on a Jokulhaups, Volcanic Fallout, or Catastrophe, etc.) And the second option is the oposite: B* Take a Catastrophic card (like the examples aforementioned in the option A) and alter it to leave no trace of chaos. This means you must alter the card to look peaceful and safe. — Please do not use alters that have already been posted elsewhere. — Be sure the card you choose to alter fits the task. — Please, clarify wich option you've chosen for your entry (A or B.) — The original card should not be a factor in deciding a winner later, so choose a card that you can do something exciting with. — Any artistic medium is permissible, except digital. — All other alterations are completely at the discretion of the alterer. — This contest will close on

Interesting idea, and I even might have time to participate. Let's see if I can come up with something good...

Sooo.... first alter in ages. Gotten a bit rusty, but nevertheless turned that Strip Mine into a nice spot for fishing. That's scenario B, I should think.
Enjoy

I have an idea for an alter now at least, so I might participate if I can get it done in the next couple days.
I think the lack of attention is not necessarily because the topic is a poor choice (it is an interesting art project) but because the resulting card just won't make sense afterwards. I had real trouble figuring out what direction to possibly go in while still keeping the card cohesive, and I imagine others likely feel the same. |

* We don't want to promote just posting your best alter (possibly done before the task was posted), because this is about creating something fresh and brand new around a particullar (and barely narrow) theme. * We don't want to make you just paint, but also make your brain cells work hard. ![]() About this particullar theme, I don't think it is so hard to accomplish. Adunakhor has proben it very well. He altered a Strip Mine in a way that it doesn't look like a strip mine at all. Even so, it still very beautiful and captivating in a way that even I would like to trade some stuff for it if I can. So, if the worry is about shooting down the card's profit potential, I would say that it will depend on the alterer's talent and the final product. If the worry is just about to make something capable of catching people's attention based on cohesion (and merely for this contest), I would say that art doesn't needs that to impress people, and history bears witness to that. You can take a cheap card and let your imagination fly. If it turns into something particulary beautiful and/or shocking, people would just love it, no matter how logic or coherent it would be. EDIT: In general, the contest (by the way, all of them in the artwork forum) has been suffering a lack of attendance, wich you can just check by revisiting the past months' threads.)

That wouldn't really help, but thanks.
EDIT: Not such a big deal, but I've rewinded 5 seconds in Ruination.
Ruination:
Today is the last day for posting submissions (well, you have until tomorrow night, when I put up the poll.) I'm a little sad about the attendance.
