Looting is a blue ability. Civilized scholar is a blue card. More blue card have looting than red and it fits blue's deceptivness and penchant for knowledge.

Wizards has already said that they are moving looting into red as a 2/3rd "tier" so yes, it is also a red ability now.
Care to explain why? Don't you like the shift of looting into red? Or giving a colorshifted Careful Study a cheap flashback cost? Or are you fine with the mechanics and just don't like the art?
Oh, and the card itself is real. And it will be printed in Dark Ascension. I know it has been already cited a few times, but it seems to need some repetition, since people are still crying fake:
IDW Publishing and Wizards of the Coast have been working together for a while with the Dungeons and Dragons comic, and now with the Magic: The Gathering comic series. One of the hooks with the Magic: The Gathering comic is an exclusive card for use with the upcoming Magic: The Gathering – Dark Ascension set.

Because as mentioned before already the card's power levels are off the charts for a rare.
Sure it is not a snapcaster mage (which if it was a mythic would have reached JtmS prices by now), but it is the strongest card draw printed in the last 4-6 sets.
We have already seen our share of top tier decks with flashback and recursion. It is obvious that the next two expansions will only massively add to that collection and make it even stronger.
We are talking about a non-instant baby ancestrall recall here with flashback!

Give credit, where credit is due. Give irony and sarcasm, when ignorance and stupidity is found. The whip is kept for special occasions
The Internet was a revelation to me, I never imagined there are so many idiots on this planet.
I hate this card already. I've always hated color pie infractions. Red card draw, get out of here!
Red gets into everything (at a cost). Red even has a tutor, however it is with a drawback. One reason I like the fact they are putting the looting effect into red as it has a cost associated with the draw. Blue having all the draw effects essentially just didn't seem right for its power level. It is bad enough that 98% of legacy is blue.
You shouldn't compare it to thirst for knowledge either. Thirst gives you card advantage or at least replaces itself. Careful study is the card you are looking for.
And for the other thing discussed heavily here, I do not understand the hate for red looting. I, for one, would be ready to shift the looting to red entirely. It fits Red in 'take what you need the most and throw something else away' kind of way. I would actually question how fitting is it for blue to throw cards (knowledge, information, spells... how do you wish to see cards in hand) away. Blue should rather return them to library for later use, as it sometimes does (see beyond, brainstorm, impulse, telling time, Sea Gate Oracle).
I used TFK due to the Flashback. Yeah, it's still 4 for 4, but that makes it strictly better that Careful Study.
This is a Sorcery. That's the difference between blue and red draw engines.

Seriously. Wheel of Fortune was good card design. I would love to see red get looting. It would shape the game for the better. The fact that blue is the strongest colour by a mile is a testament to it hogging all the draw.
Emmara is like the worst parts of Legends and Homelands got pregnant, aborted the fetus, tossed it in the trashcan, set it on fire and wrapped the corpse in a Dragon's Maze pack wrapper.
Because as mentioned before already the card's power levels are off the charts for a rare.
It's probably not going to be a rare. Treasure Hunt (The Previous promo from the comic books) was an uncommon yet had the rare expansion icon. Source here
Hopefully it'll be a common, and not an uncommon but there is no guarantee to that.
I really hope it's not a rare. It's way too utility.
All promos are upgrade to "rare" symbols. The first comic promo was a common. My guess is this is either a common since it is a color adjusted reprint of a common or an uncommon to adjust for its flashback.
All I know is that this is the card that U/R Delver needed (in standard). This is going to be pretty darn good, and a playset will only help out a deck. Also, interesting that the FB is in red, I would have guessed blue.
I'm really not getting all the hate directed at this card, even as a blue player, it doesn't feel quite right for blue to get both "Looting" and stright-up card draw. Is Careful Study so degenerate that Red can't have card filtering at the cost of card disadvantage? I seriously think people are overreacting here.

would like to see red get more looting abilties in the future. Red is way too one dimensional in card design in terms of sorcery and instants to not get something else.
There are only so many ways you can have red instant and sorceries deal damage.
Burning vengeance and U/R delver decks will love this card also.

Looting in red fits thematically, it fills an important role in (some) red decks, it diversifies a color which is pretty much one-dimensional most of the time, and it helps balance the colors power-wise. Seems like an all around win. Yes, it's a color pie shift, but it seems like a good one.
If Burning Vengeance ever becomes a high-level competitive force, this card will be the primary reason why. It does absolutely everything that deck could possibly want, and it does it very efficiently.

I'm always looking for foil Madcap Skills and Ghitu Fire-Eater, [trade thread link forthcoming]
People, this is an overall -1 in card advantage. Even with the flashback attached, it doesn't actually give you more cards in your hand than from what you started with.

Because its a mock up that's used the coverart of the comic. Hasn't this been said about 9999 times already?

Fixed. Comparing this card to Ancestral is amazingly short-sighted.

I really hope Wizards is going through with this.
It was a little bit too good honestly. The problem was that when they corrected wheel they put the damn thing in blue windfall.
Won't be legal till Febuary 3rd (IE the release date of DKA).
