I am relatively new to magic in general and particularly to this great website. Awhile after I started magic a couple of my buddies mentioned that I should join them in making an EDH deck. And so I ended up with Rhys.
I built this deck as I went along changing things, sometimes drastically, until it ended up where it is today. My general game plan revolves around generating tokens throughout the game with Rhys and then dropping pump to swing for the win.
There are a few exceptions from the deck such as Doubling Season or Maze of Ith. These are cards I would love to have but are just too expensive for a single card in the hundred card deck.
Some of the more unusual cards I included: Gaea's Blessing - After multiple deaths to Tunnel Vision I decided I needed an answer ~.~ Possessed Portal - My answer to excessive pillow forts. Also a good reset for everyone but me with my multitude of tokens to sack if its not answered within a turn or two Awakening - For Rhys its an effective second Seedborn Muse. But be careful when you drop cause it can quickly backfire...Ghave + Grave pact =-(
I organized the deck according to the use I most often put the card, though many have multiple uses depending on the situation. Mana cost is the number to the left and to the right is the card type, I for Instant, C for Creature, ect...
This deck for me is extremely fun because it has enough reach to deal with most any threat and contains the potential to win out of seemingly nowhere without resorting to “unfair” combos. I am currently giving it a rest though because it has received quite a bit of hate in my playgroup ever since one game when I swung turn 5 with 30 something 9/9's...ya...Seedborn Muse is kinda good.
I would love to hear any and all comments and/or suggestions on how to improve the deck or my piloting of it
I like the Possessed Portal tech, thought about including that card and even picked one up but never played it. Anyhow I have a fairly updated primer for this commander in my sig which may have some useful advice for you.
Thanks, The primer was very helpful and comprehensive. I am still not 100% on the Possessed Portal though. While its a great game finisher if you have a bunch of critters its a little mana intensive without a doubler out and I often find it sitting in my hand while I play other cards over it.
