Ever work at an SCG Open?

What was your experience like? Is there a preference over coverage runner or sales associate?

9$/hr is a significant pay cut for me, especially for working on a weekend. But I've been thinking about taking one of the positions as I've never attended an event <100 people. Is it good for networking and possible connections?

Hey there:

If I can give you a good perspective from the inside - these are pretty work-intensive events that require you to be on your feet helping customers for long periods of the day. While there are breaks, I would not expect this to be a good event for networking if you are working the sales booth - because, as stated - it's work

The same goes for the coverage runner, but even more so - you will constantly be acting as liaison between the lead coverage writer, commentators, video director, judge staff, people in the feature match area, and other staff members.

I would not apply for either of these positions if you are not fully committed to working on needed tasks the (non-break) times you are working at the event!

I would say though that it's been a rewarding experience for quite a few people who have worked with us (enough so that we have "regulars" who volunteer for dozens of events a year), and we have drawn from our volunteer pool for full-time job offers for SCG proper.
