So, my buddies and I have decided that Tamanoa is too cool not to use as a build-around me general. Being that I have decided to pursue this deck, how would you, the community, go about building it? Suggestions?
I'd like to build around the general if I can, but I also have a competitive drive in EDH, and like to build powerful, efficient decks. Thanks for any help at all that I receive! |

mass life-gain-burn-control is a favorite underplayed archetype of mine, so i have a few suggestions
repercussion (this card will send all their attacks your way lol, so either have moat or glacial chasm in play) brightflame (puts you so far ahead its not funny) inferno boon reflection mana barbs rolling thunder comet storm chandra the firebrand mirari earthquake hurricane doubling cube (for your comet storms etc) gisela, blade of goldnight (in actuality this is the commander legal general you will end up using if you play mass gain-burn) vicious shadows (burn kills stuff so why not kill them for having cards in their hand as well) also tamanoa is, unfourtunately, not legendary and can't be used as a general, unless you guys have some house rules.

If you're gaining all that life, may as well put it to use. Well of Lost Dreams seems like a good idea, as does some of the Ajani-based cards.
And Rolling Earthquake is one of those annoying Portal cards. Anything from portal is ridiculously expensive. |

EDIT: Combo fire servant with brightflame. Just went from 2 to 58. Imagine if tamanoa was in play.

Fiery Justice! Sure, it's a pretty crappy card, but it seems to fit thematically.

Tamanoa seems to be based on burn, one auto include should be Sunforger and all the good instants that belong to that package.
Burn decks are quite hard to play in EDH, ![]() ![]() has very good enchantments and enchantresses, perhaps an enchantment theme could be worth playing.Pyrohemia and Æther Flash for example. Looking forward to a decklist... She really should be a general, its a unique ability!

Tamanoa is at the very top of my list of non-legendary creatures I wish were legendary. I have a somewhat irrational love of lifegain (when it's efficient enough to be justified) and I definitely love cards that can convert one resource or action into another.
If I were building around Tamanoa, I'd definitely want to include big, sweeping damage effects as others have mentioned. Pyrohemia, Brightflame, Bonfire of the Damned, etc. To complement that theme I'd also want to try and take advantage of the fact that my own side of the board will be taking collateral damage, with things like Vigor, Rite of Passage, Phytohydra, Sprouting Phytohydra, Spitemare, anything that helps me turn that self-inflicted damage into a positive. Gisela, the new RW Angel legend, also fits exceptionally well here. |
