I believe this card is good enough to deserve its own thread and it will be way easier to find the discussion on it in a few months than if it would all happen in the Planechase thread.
Finally we get a new Ninja with potential! A clone for 4 mana is borderline from the wrong side, on the outside looking in. But a 2 mana clone is very good, even with a drawback. Putting it into play attacking is an upside, too, but having to return an attacker can suck, especially if that would've been the creature you would have liked to copy. I'm definitely going to test the student out and think it will probably be able to stay a while in a 540 card cube.
This is way worse than Phantasmal Image and Metamorph. But those cards are pretty nutty, and is a very decent value card. I can easily see it in 700+ card cubes. It's good, but I think there are cards I'd play over it at lower numbers.
I'll test him for sure. I can see it leading to some pretty awesome blowouts. What better time to clone something than at instant speed already attacking? Works pretty well with blinky crystal shard decks, too.
I support blue aggro in my cube, so he may find a home. I took Ninja of the Deep Hours out a while back because sometimes you can't get through and 4 mana for a 2/2 can be rough. The same four mana for a clone isn't at all shabby.
This card looks pretty good. Sakashima's Student takes a borderline playable card, makes it slightly harder to cast and gives it a strong additional ability. I think it's going to be better than Vesuvan Shapeshifter but worse than Phantasmal Image and Phyrexian Metamorph (but those cards are already pretty strong).
I agree with what Donald says, but I am not sure if it can be played for the Ninjutsu cost often enough to be worth it. It requires an unblocked attack and something else on the board you actually want to copy.

This is how I feel too. But I think it's better than some people are giving it credit for. This is a GOOD Clone imitator.
It is obviously worth than Metamorph, but that's not saying much as both of these cards are insane and among the best cards in the best cube color. (Although Metamorph is arguably a colorless card with a blue kicker).

Ive dropped him a few years ago, but with some of the strong on curve creatures and ETB effects attached to them, Im wonderong if I should give this guy another shot

What's your evaluation of this guy?
Personally I will still have Phantasmal Image and Vesuvan Shapeshifter as my blue clone effects. (i count the Phyrexian Metamorph as colorless).
I like shapeshifter because its cost can be split, can change targets, and is a 2/2 if there are no targets.

I'm always open to suggestions on how to improve my cube. Take a look and ask a question, or give a constructive critique whenever you can.
Cubes with blue aggro/tempo support should like this guy quite a bit. Other cubes, not so much.
