Nice find. I really wish it cost 2 (in exchange for losing haste) so that I could discard turn three. Turn four is pretty slow for a discard outlet that doesn't guarantee a discard (or allow multiples). I think it's just a tad underpowered.

I agree. It's a cool find, but it's a turn slow for unreliable discard. It has to survive for me to be able to use the discard on it ...I think I like Hidden Horror more (or that portal card that's better ...Mercenary Knight).
This was in my first iteration of cube. It's a good creature for its cost, and importantly it is splashable and lets you discard any card type unlike the other competitors. It's very easily killed though in reanimator where it will have a target on its head, and the haste isn't relevant there because you are mainly playing it for the discard. I'd consider playing it again at something like 600+.

Hmm, that seams like both a good discard outlet and a decent threat + wall.
Wow, Mercenary Knight would be awesome in my cube (Thanks to Haakon in part) and I was ready to pick up a copy when I noticed the price... Why is a slightly better Hidden Horror so expensive?
Also, the errata makes the Knight worse for the strategy as you can't replay it with Haakon for free.

I think that this is pretty spot on. Basically in the deck that cares about the haste the echo cost is bad, and in the deck that wants the discard it's too vulnerable and slow to be reliable. An ETB discard would have been better than the echo discard.
Just got to say, you've definitely earned distinction as an MTGS hero

Because he's the hero MTGS deserves, and the one it needs right now. So we'll global him. Because he can take it. Because he's not just our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. An expired rascal.

People seem to be really fixated on pushing reanimator, when forcing yourself to discard is looked as some kind of beneficial ability.
If you only want the creature for its stats, you might as well play one of the 2 mana 2/x fliers, since they attack on turn 3 as well, but don't cost you a card.
But that's just the thing. If it serves double duty by supporting reanimator and graveyard strategies, then it's a better card than one with simply superior stats.
Here we have a rebellious hasty flying creature with a drawback that has graveyard interaction potential. So....
Hidden Gem?
Niche Card?
Oh God will he stop torturing us with this crap!?
Discuss.
