This is my own build on the Liquimetal Coating deck that has been around for ages. The reason people have like the deck for so long is because it changes PERMANENTS to artifacts so you can use artifact destruction spells to kill things like Planeswalkers and Lands.
There have been many versions like mono red, R/U control, and R/W aggro but I think R/G is the best combination. It has a slight control feel w/ sweepers like Slagstorm and spot removal like Galvanic Blast, which will be cast for 4 damage 50% of the time.
I am posting my successful decklist because it can help easily introduce new players to the game and is a very budget build (hence why there's Slagstorm and not my favorite card Bonfire of the Damned) that can win FNMs.
Creatures: 13
4 Kuldotha Phoenix (still a cheap rare people!)
2 Inferno Titan
1 Charmbreaker Devils (nice for recurring Galvanic but subbing for Inferno #3)
4 Manic Vandal
2 Oxidda Scrapmelter
Artifacts: 12
4 Ichor Wellspring
2 Mycosynth Wellspring (helps you search out that lone Forest)
2 Sphere of the Suns
4 Liquimetal Coating
Spells: 11
3 Slagstorm
4 Galvanic Blast
4 Ancient Grudge (the BOSS ALL STAR of the deck. Say bye to their lands lol)
Can you explain the benefit of playing with Kuldotha Phoenix? It doesn't seem to be a fast enough clock. Well, it's mostly hard to tell cause I've never touched this deck.
I have a liquimetal build and i can honestly say i don't think you have enough early game artifacts. I have a liquimetal build myself that runs Kuldotha with faithless looting, mimic vat to recur manic vandal, and wall of tangle cords to shut down early aggro. (0/6 wall for 2 is pretty good, and an artifact to boost metalcraft for kuldotha.)
and sphere of the suns isn't too necessary, but if you feel you need the ramp i guess it doesn't hurt.

(O_o) .....the face I made the moment I realized that deep down.... I am a mill deck player.
i used to run a liquimetal phoenix deck... the issues I found with it are:
a) your opponent may rage quit and expression how badly they want to destroy your face
b)aggro has gotten more aggro-y. many decks can survive on 4 land, so unless you get the ancient grudge after grudge after grudge then it won't slow them down as much as you are hoping... use those grudges as spot removal. "destroy target planeswalker" is quite fun.
c)mimic vat
d)wall of tanglecord is bomb.
I've been testing a similar R / G Liquimetal Grudge deck.
It's decent on the play because if you can destroy their second land with a grudge you can probably destroy their 3rd land with Grudge flashback. On the draw it's worse since you're hitting lands three and four, so they get their 3 drops cast.
Unsolicited Sideboard Advice: Surgical Extraction. If you see quite a few non-basics in game 1. Grudge them and extract them. Taking out 4 Seachrome Coasts or Glacial Fortresses really puts a damper into Delver.
Alright so I figured I'd write out my experiences with this deck last night at my local FNM. I went 2-5, but I at least took a game off of one of my opponents each time. The deck isn't the best in the world in terms of efficiency, but holy crap does it have some amazing synergy and can take games if the opponent is too cocky or happens to make a few mistakes.
My first match-up I ended up playing against one of my close friends (who has posted in this thread, in fact) who was playing his homebrew B/G Hexproof deck (featuring The Delver Kids). This match-up is pretty bad from the get go, if you netdeck this deck exactly you'll have 1 way to deal with creatures like Gladecover Scout and Invisible Stalker, which is Slagstorm. Unfortunately for me, our LGS was completely out of Slags, so I had to put in some Brimstone Volleys (which I do not recommend). I ended up taking one game off of him, I don't remember how, so I'll chalk it up to luck.
The second game was against a mono-white Humans Deck which relied heavily on token spam. I'm not going to mention which card that I didn't have would be good here, but I'm sure you can figure it out. I took a game off of him due to some bad luck on his part and some sweet land destruction on mine. Not an awful matchup if you can keep the board under control.
The third game was my first victory, and probably my least satisfying. The girl I was playing against had a pretty neat deck involving some spirits and a Geist of Saint Traft. I ended up taking the first and third games pretty easily but once she got Geist and friends out in the second game, she pretty much rushed my ass down.
Remember the first deck I played against? Alright imagine that deck, but on steroids. Those steroids, of course, being Wild Defiance. The thing is this deck can totally deal with that card, but if you don't happen to have them in your hand at that time, you're pretty much boned. Also Slagstorm is really good.
The fifth matchup was up against a pure burn deck, the guy I was playing against was a bit different. He always tried to fast play everything, and every time I'd destroy one of his lands he'd get overwhelmingly depressed about it. He also completely tried to fudge his life total by using a Dragon's Claw. He didn't say he was gaining life at all, and honestly I didn't even know it was out there. It's okay though, no harm done. I won, by the way.
I had fun with this deck, it flows very well together and I can honestly say I had a blast at FNM last night. For the next one I end up going to I think I'll end up actually putting a sideboard together with some Whipflares or something. I didn't realize or expect how much of a key player slagstorm would actually be, but I was wrong. Either way, thanks for putting together a really awesome deck, it was a blast to play and I hope you can do some cool stuff with it (like win your FNM).
AmazingShake, thank you for testing out my list. If you guys want to go hardcore w/ this deck then I'd switch all copies of Slagstorm and maybe one Galvanic Blast for 4 copies of Bonfire of the Damned. That card is super good and can deal that extra damage when you get those Spheres and Mycosynths. The ramping w/ Sphere of the Suns is very important. The way you want your games to go is to draw/ramp w/ artifacts, destroy opponents stuff w/ coating and grudge, use a sweeper, and then drop a bomb. I might take out 1 Kuldotha Phoenix and definitely the lone Charmbreaker Devils so I can see more of Inferno Titan and maybe Wurmcoil Engine. Kuldotha Phoenix definitely helps to deal w/ the frequent amount of Restoration Angel and the angel tokens from Geist of Saint Traft that I've been seeing at my shop. It's no problem to crash into the tokens because it can be brought back from the grave. The Geist is no problem because you have sweepers. Thank you so much everyone (especially AmazingShake) for your feedback, keep asking questions, and check out my other decklists.
Shadowclaimer, Crush gives me limited options when it comes to "synergizing" with Liquimetal Coating. I want to be able to destroy ALL permanents (especially lands and walkers because there's no Wasteland in standard and I don't like Hex Parasite in this deck). It also doesn't have flashback like Ancient Grudge. If I cast Ancient Grudge from my hand to get rid of my Mycosynth Wellspring I can grab that 1 copy of a forest in the deck and have access to that Ancient Grudge by the following turn.
I don't know how relevant Crush would be in this deck because it is a one R cost card.
I personally just like having the 4 Ancient Grudges and then the 6 Shatters with a 2/2 or 3/3 body on them (meaning Manic Vandal and Oxidda Scrapmelter).
y not a few Bramblecrush? its 4 cost but overall isn't as bad as setting up a combo. You can still run the combo but adding in a few more LD stuff could increase consistancy. What about acidic slime?
Destroy artifact or land? Kinda works both ways even without the coating. I want to make this type of deck, even having to convert it into Modern in the future I like the concept.
Needs more Into the Core and Viridian Corrupter. And draw. Consider Desperate Ravings IMO (after all, some of these cards can be dead in multiples, especially if your combo is not set yet).

It's essentially a mono red deck. Adding those means adding more green and that means I can't keep my 3 red cost Kuldota Phoenixes in. :\ I think I'm gonna post a new thread that has more green stuff like that^
What about Crush its a 1 drop destry target non creature artifact. Can be used to kill those lands. Plus i really like the idea of adding white.
Someone already asked this but I have another answer. Smelt has been noted as a card in M13. It costs R to destroy target artifact so I might consider that card instead.

I already have one. I just abandoned Liquidmetal b/c its more consistant without it. It doesn't have that awesome "BOOM! You now have zero land" kind of feel that you can get with liquidmetal but it does run very consistant after turn 3 of just rattling off ld and sweeping on occasion.
Forger is a nice little addition, IMO. It's a jank version of Tarmogoyf, but it allows you to play cute tricks with Liquimetal if you want to target your own permanents for some unexpected combat math. A 4/4 body is relevant in a format with restoration angel and splicer tokens (not this deck isn't well equipped to deal with Blade Splicers, but still).

Hoard-Smelter Dragon. People seem to have trouble dealing with 5/5 Flyers right now. Repeatable artifact destruction too. Couple it with Crushing Vines for some lethal damage. Run 1.
Weird that people keep ignoring Into The Core. It's instant speed and exiles..come on people!
Only problem I have with Into the Core is that it has to target 2 artifacts and fizzles if the second leaves for any reason...like 3/4 angels with flash and the infamous Vapor Snag.

Well, then--let it be thus so--and men will have cause to tremble and flee when they hear the names of Elric of Melinbone and Stormbringer, his sword.
