Was wondering people's opinions on Nocturnus's cube-worthiness. My cube could easily spring for a Vampire tribe running through it (given it's already packing a pile of playable Vampires), but cubeable Vampire lords are thin on the ground.
Pros: Beast of a four-drop, evasive, boosts your other guys if you draft well.
Cons: Triple-black CC, reliant on a heavy black draft to work well, forces Tribal, reveals all your draws to your opponent(s).
I don't think it really works in cube, because there are going to be more lands, less black cards and less fetchlands in your cube deck than in nocturnus' standard deck back in the day. Even with 5 other vampires in a deck he seems super cuttable.
What percentage of your cards are vampires in each of the 4 black color combinations?
In a regular cube, I wouldn't expect it to be significantly higher than 5%, which makes it completely unattractive there.
My break-even point for a tribe in my cube seems to be 9 cards out 400 (and nine good ones at that). I'm currently at four good Vampires, but want to bring in Vampire Nighthawk and Gatekeeper of Malakir already... add Olivia if/when possible, and it suddenly starts to look viable.
Out of the 4 black color combinations you mention, the only currently packing a Vampire is BW (which has Vish Kal alone). BR is certainly a future possibility, though.
Just knocking about in my own head whether going the whole hog and committing to full tribal support for vamps is worth it. I suspect not (given I think Nocturnus is perhaps the best bet for a Vampire lord), but thought it was at least worth the debate before I gave up on the idea entirely.
I do think if a handful more black vampires are made that are good enough already, then Nocturnus might be good enough since in monoblack he is ok by himself already IMO, where the zombie lords aren't exciting alone.
With just a few more decent vampires Kalastria Highborn may soon be playable in typical cubes, especially if you're running cards like Attrition. I think I would usually prioritize her over Nocturnus, because she is generally more interesting if not necessarily more powerful.

But I think in tribal cube zombies would have better support for them...
Draft it on Cubetutor!

Bloodline Keeper is the most cubable vamp lord BTW.
