So this was the first deck I owned having gotten into commander with the precons. It is the closest thing to a good stuff deck I have and probably will ever make and as such is quite competitive I feel. I'm sure it could be more competitive with the addition of certain combos but I would like to avoid that. I can't stand Tooth and Nail either.
Over time I have ended up making this deck very strongly geared towards it's land package. The star of that show being Life from the Loam. It is both a massive tool for filling our graveyard as well as I power house for splashy EDH land packages. I have spent a lot of time and effort (and money) evolving this into the deck it is today. I even had a full art custom job done on my commander. I am very happy with it but I'm sure it can always be improved on. No comments are unwelcome.
The basic game plan in this deck is to try and play quiet for the majority of the beginning. Politics are very important as the deck has the ability to play permission of sorts. Between the counters, removal, sweeps and targeted land D you have the ability to really harm another player. As you don't have a massive amount of any of these it is important to use them defensively. As early as possible try and get a mill engine or graveyard tutor. Depending on how your opening hand is you maybe able to try and push for an early kill. In most cases though you will want to wait for the right time to get a lethal Mime online. Ideally it will be almost impossible to stop as well. My main wincon comes from a lethal Mime that copied an Invisible Stalker with counters equal to a Lord of Extinction. Shortly this will have backup in the form of Nether Traitor and Consuming Aberration. No matter what happens, the deck really revolves around it's land package. The tricks you can pull off are quite lovely.
Your current land package is a little...uninspiring? Why not add some lands that can actually make you a threat like Glacial Chasm, Volrath's Stronghold or Academy Ruins (the sac land that returns an artifact would be good too).
Also, change Eyeblight's Ending for Pongify. Pongify is sooooo good, if not just because it ruins an Iona naming black (i.e. your main source of removal).
Why Artisan of Kozilek? Mimeoplasm/reanimation effects do not trigger the creature return as that triggers on casting the Artisan. Maybe Rune-Scarred Demon instead?
Finally, what is your altered art for Mim? I have one too so I always like to see other people's takes.
I have actually never seen Glacial Chasm in action before so I don't really know what to expect from it.
Voltrath's Stronghold I have wanted since day one. I should have had it on my wish list but just forgot. Been trying to trade for one forever and should have had one in here if not for being ripped off by another trader.
Academy Ruins was just an oversight again and putting it on my wish list. I actually need two of them for two decks.
Mostly in both cases what is stopping me is cost. I really prefer to trade over buying and for some reason have had zero luck getting either.
Artisan was just there from the beginning and I haven't removed it. It seems a decent enough body. I definitely is one of my creatures up for cuts. I have always felt I could use more threats. This was on my cut list for Primetime before the ban. Serves me right for waiting for the rotation.
I'll agree on Pongify. I have it in both my Jhoira and Merkike decks. Just didn't consider it for this deck for some reason.
Not exactly sure how to work images on the forum but here is a scan of it. My scanner isn't the best so my apologies.
Really looking forward to Consuming Aberration for that extra mill card I have been searching for. Very importantly, this one acts as a back up for my Lord of Extinction/Invisible Stalker combo
consuming abberation is a boss, run him.
for the invisible stalker combo, i prefer nether traitor, nether traitor has haste and shadow, so i prefer him over the stalker.
