Default Gateless Movement...

Judging by the flavor texts of spoiled cards, apparently there's a Gateless Movement going on, those who're unguilded band together to challenge the Ten. I wonder if this is the climax of Dragon's Maze?

P.S.: And, from flavor texts, we can almost conclude that the Dragon's Maze is a result of Niv-Mizzet's planning all along.

This does seem like whats happening, but the novel implies that niv is discovering the maze and that it wasn't his creation.

Hm, technically he COULD have had a hand in the maze's creation and just forget about it. It's been 10 000 years... plus, as we saw in the novel, it's amazing what you can forget when you want to

Well, I don't think that Niv is that old a dragon. I mean... I think Nicol Bolas is ~25.000, afaik, and is considered the oldest being alive we know of. Second being Liliana with, I think about 4.500 years.

So it'd be more likely that Bolas had his fingers in that, but as we know that this time this isn't the case...

In terms of age, considering 'walkers only: Bolas > Sorin > Karn (this is an assumption based on the fact that Urza and Co never encountered the Eldrazi so far as we know, but it may be the other way around) > Probably Vess (For one or two we aren't certain of the age) > Everyone else.

However Emrakul has got to be pretty darn old. Avacyn is in the same ballpark as Sorin - If a touch younger. Then there are Spirits from Kamagawa and other similar Spirits, Angels, Demons and so on from other worlds.

If I am not mistaken, Guildpact was signed 10000 years ago and Niv-Mizzet was already Izzet's parun at that time.

Interestingly there are also a few flavor texts that mention the guild leaders exploring the past: Shielded Passage and Serene Remembrance.

My guess is that the "gateless" are becoming a big problem and the guilds are looking for a way to regain their control of Ravnica, with one of their first ideas being to try and re-establish the Guildpact.

I think it's pretty cool the Boros's angels are defecting to protect the gateless. With the flavor text from Knight Watch, some of the Boros are jerks.

no dragon maze i think is all about niv mizzet finding what he was looking for. in the flavor texts of ravnica the izzet are searching for something which makes an imbalance in the other guilds beleiving that it may be a weapon that will give the izzet power(an example is the flavor text from the ravnica card roughs passage). This starts the whole guild tention into the war. rakdos i dont really think cares he just wants destruction. anyways in gatecrash we see that with the imbalance that ordinary folks are suffering causing the people such as angels, giants, humans to start defending them. This creates the guildless protectors. With dragon maze i beleive that the izzet will either come to discover the thing they were looking for but its just a rare book or long lost ore(something where everyone goes you serious). then the guild pact goes back to normal and peace returns between the 10 guilds. Or there will be a huge conflict and strugle over what the izzet finds which will allow wizards to return to ravnica again in the future. but i doubt wizards will go back too ravnica for a 3rd time

DGM is probably all guilds including Izzet, ganging up on Niv.

One thing I don't understand... why is the movement called the "Gateless" rather than the "Guildless"?

The focus in RTR was a return to the guilds, and the gates were both minor and as far as I could tell, unexplained. How are they suddenly important enough to name your movement after them, and more importantly, why is this a good name for a movement against the guilds by the guildless?

All the references to Gateless in the flavor text of the recently revealed cards is bothering me :/

Because the gates are symbolic of the guilds so "gateless" and "guildless" basically are the same thing.
