Also, I don't understand what advantage there is to hiding who one really is. I'm not going to say who I am because that is the theme of the game, not because I feel that I gain some advantage by remain anonomous.

Hello, welcome, blatero, blatere. Vote: Ninja0fDeath for having a redundant and suspicious name.
Well, FOS you for having a name which encourages blending into the background and lurking! TAKE THAT, SIR!
Right: we're supposed to have the option of going into it without preconceived notions. However, I've got a few good reasons not to try to hold onto that anonymity. For instance, people sometimes try to take potshots at me for little reason, providing good leads for the town to pursue. Why would you consider my coming forward as a suspicious act? Why would a mafia agent immediately take a course of action that would focus attention on himself? It seems to me as if you're just searching for an excuse to take me out of the picture.
While we're still slinging around votes with wild abandon, I'll reduce my vote on myself to a FOS Myself, and vote Emerys.
Can you justify your vote as anything more than a hasty decision or a mafia slip-up? If so, I'd be interested in hearing it.

It's not about any particular scummyness that your move exudes; it's more the principle of a Blind Mafia Game - key word BLIND. Regardless of the advantages/disadvantages provided by nameclaiming your account, this game was designed to be anonymous.
If we wanted to know who you were, we'd play a normal mafia game.

It's not really a matter of whether the other players want to know who you are, or not. After all, it's pretty much a given that they'll want to find that out. Sorry if I didn't exactly make it a huge challenge in my case, but I thought it was going to be pretty obvious as soon as I made one of my signature epic-length posts. IMO, the nice thing about blind mafia is that it gives players who want to keep their identities and capabilities a secret a chance to do that, to start over with a clean slate. Those who aren't so concerned about it don't have a duty to hide themselves, otherwise it'd be outlawed in the rules. It's simply a good idea not to draw attention to yourself, in most cases.
I took a calculated risk that drew attention to myself: that's not a scummy action. A lot of the salvation players get caught up in wanting to lynch based on considerations besides whether there is solid evidence of someone being scum. This is why the town has been doing so poorly in a few games I could mention. If we want to win, the only things that should be factored into our decisions is whether an action violates the rules, and whether it will help us lynch scum. Anything else is just getting in the way.
Well, this is interesting. The worst part about the Blind side of the game from my point of view is that I have too remember 20 new names.
I also hate being a vanilla townie as there is so few ways for me to get confirmation; it about limited to being the driving force behind lynching a mafia member, being inspected, and being the first person to use some key wording from our role PMs.
I don't know why I played this.

Um, I know zoob gave us a heads up that the game would be mostly back to the basics and fairly simplistic, but it still might not be the best idea to reveal to the mafia how many of us are vanilla or not, atm. It will give them a better idea of who our power roles really are, and such.
I'm the replacement, doofus. I saw a replacement thread, and stuck my hand up. To tell you the truth, I was hoping to be mafia because I've never been one before, but alas.

You, on the other hand, are a public eyesore. Regardless of whether you are mafia or not, there is no way you will be a pro-town player, as every post you make will take hours to decipher, and serve only to confuse and confound.
And, since there are more townies than mafia members, and the mafia members can confer amoungst each other or just ignore you, you will hurst the town.
You deserve to die. You muse be taught a lesson. I refuse to believe that you could possibly have posted like this is a mafia game before and not have been totally hated out of the game.
Either this is your first game, and you die, or you think that being anonymous means you can act like a total asshat, in which case you die.
The only way I can possibly see you avoiding death is if you stop posting like a retarded 9 year old, and start playing normally. You have been warned. I will personally make it my duty to convince every other person in this game to vote for you if you do not comply.
I've said my piece.

Hmm. What is the current vote count on NinjaofDeath? I want him voted off whether he's a townie or not because in blind mafia, you don't tell everyone your identity day one.
Plus, you're being suspicious. But I won't vote for you because I'd rather Zoob post an official vote count before I do.
4 Azrael -Sting Chameleon, Imacoolone, Hasted Quickling, and Emerys...
Would you a take a look, ladies and gentlemen, we have our first unjustified bandwagon! The gamble might be paying off already, we may not have to lynch blindly after all.
I'm going to ignore SC's vote at the moment, since it appears to be random, but the latter three are particularly interesting to me. Let's take a look at their justifications (or lack thereof) for lynching.

Why did I want to play in this game? Because I enjoy figuring out others' identities, and I enjoy mafia games in general. Is that hard to understand?
Also, the town should be playing at its peak, at day one. That's when it's hardest to bring home a sucessful lynch, and when it's most valuable to probe for information and produce reactions to see what you can find. Just because it's the most challenging doesn't mean that it should be conceded to the mafia or given up as unimportant, I've been in plenty of games where the town has been able to sucessfully lynch scum day one.
How? By judging from the poor play of mafia agents, the sketchy reasoning involved in justification, and their quick aggression and eagerness to bandwagon. And that is exactly what we've seen since your second vote fell on me.
And actually, I don't regard this as an act of self-sacrifice at all: I don't expect to be dying anytime soon. You can call me an attention whore if you like with a degree of accuracy, but I think what's happened is justifying my decision. Time will tell, I suppose.

You argue that my actions are scummy, and yet you yourself said that I will probably be investigated tonight, now that I've come forward. Unless you think I'm some kind of god-father, surely I would have taken that into account?
Coming forward and attracting attention isn't a scummy play, for exactly those kinds of reasons. Mafia want to avoid the spot-light, and avoid the possibility of cop investigations. I have no such qualms. The first two points, that I will gain authority and possibly doc protection, are things that a mafia agent would want to get. BUT, these are also things that analytical townies want to secure, if at all possible. The third point however, the raised possibility of investigation, should demonstrate for the town that this is probably not a mafia play, or if it is, it's a stupid one.

I think if you were Azrael, you would probably have spelled "impersonator" correctly, not to mention "going", and used a period at the end. Not trying to knock you for your posting style, just saying that Az/me usually is pretty anal retentive about his writing, since he's an english major.
As for you lynch justification, I find that quite fascinating. Nothing is going to happen day one to help the town in your opinion, so you'll just throw your vote in any random direction? How does that help the town? And why would you say our chances of hitting scum today are so small?
Quote from hasted quickling »
fast read of the thread and a vote Ninja of Death either you are ruining the blindness of this or doing a strange impersonation. Day one is always random anyway, and grandpappy always says "its the nail what sticks up that gets hammered."
Heh. This one's got to be my favorite so far. It's the 4th on the bandwagon, the vote that gives us our first serious discussion for/against lynching someone.
And why is he voting? He cites two reasons. One, the idea that I'm "ruining the blindness". As I noted earlier, the blindness of everyone else has not been compromised, and my coming forward is not in violation of the game rules by any stretch of the imagination, and actually may help the town.
However, lynching on considerations besides whether a person is scum or not is the best way to send an innocent to the gallows. If you don't appreciate my playing style of role-claiming early, and for some reason think that claiming a name (that everyone would figure out quite soon anyways) violates the spirit of the game, you're free to hold that opinion and express it. But if you're a pro-town player, your duty is to vote for scum, not hold a survivor-style popularity contest. When you let anything else interfere in your judgment, you're not playing to help the town.
Now, what's his second justification for his vote?
"day one is always random anyways, and grandpappy always said that the nail that 'its the nail what sticks up that gets hammered'".
Translation: "I'm going to bandwagon, because the guy who draws the most attention is most likely to be lynched."
Again, the expression of the belief that day one is always a random, hopeless effort for the town, not worth taking seriously. On top of that, the rationale for his vote is that those who draw the most attention to themselves ought to be lynched: now there's a good a way to kill off all your analytical pro-town posters, and let the mafia sit back in the shadows and laugh their heads off at us.
Mafia games aren't like hammering the nail in, they're like trying to pry the bad nails out. The mafia are often the nails trying to bury themselves deepest into the wood, and stay out of notice. Those who stick out the most, and draw the most attention to themselves, are easiest to either confirm, or to examine for mistakes.
Unvote, Vote Hasted quickling. Out of the explanations so far, you've got the scummiest rationale, and the scummiest position on the voting wagon (the third serious vote). I'd be happy to end the day right now by voting you off.
NoD, first of all, i have no dout in my mind, that you are Azreal. Only you could produce so much after so few posts. Anyway, due to the fact that this is a "basic" game (with little fear of a god father) makes me only slightly suspicious of you.
Believe me, if i were the cop(who knows i just might be anyway) i would still investigate you, unless something else very drastic happened. But i will have to disagree with you about the 'nail' thing. Day ones (excepcially those that start in day) are incredibly random, and those that stick their neck out the most, often get it chopped off.
Last but not least, i agree with you about the bandwagon on you. It has grown quite fast. Ill back you up for now vote hasted quickling
Y'know, trying to decude people's identities kinda ruins the spirit of the game. I mean, what's the point of playing Blind Mafia if everyone can see?
Thanks, Tefo, for the 8 billionth time.
Anyways, with only 4 on you, NoD, I have no choice but to vote for you. Why would you bring attention to yourself like that, and not only that, but reveal who you are when this is supposed to be a blind game? You had to know it would cause all this attention and controversy, and frankly, it's not looking too bright in my opinion.
For all of you voting NinjaOfDeath (NOD) because he may be Azrael, please consider the following:
What would Azrael do if he were mafia? Would he come out and let everyone know who he is, or would he try to remain in the shadows?
I contend that he would not make himself known. Azrael is a better player than that - eeven though he does have a propenstiy for day one gambits. So, by voting for Azrael, I believe you are, intentionally or unintentionally, robbing the town of a very valuable asset - a good strategist and analyst.
If NOD lives a few days, we should discuss how he survived, as Azrael is a pretty big target for the mafia. Until that time, I think we should use the tools at our disposal.

If we want to win, the only things that should be factored into our decisions is whether an action violates the rules, and whether it will help us lynch scum. Anything else is just getting in the way.

That isn't to say I won't do anything stupid or play any worse than I would normally. It just means that I'm not going to have as much fun.

Oh dear god. Vote: No Es Lo Mismo. Please, learn to speak english. I don't think I'll be able to tolerate this level of awful grammar if it continues.

Yes it does. I can judge poeple however I like. My judgments don't actually affect anything, so I'm free to make them.

:tongue2: Thank god we've got you to draw all the attention.
Your selfless act of sacrifice is noted.
Man, it's day one - lighten up.
it's blind mafia for a reason. If you did not want to play that way why did you join the game anyway?
Oh and No Es Lo Mismo could you please use some punctuation it makes everything much easier to read and stuff it can get quite annoying when everyone starts to type like this and no one can read anyone's post with out guessing alot that would be much appreciated kay thanks bye
Until then, unvote vote:ninjaofdeath Nothing constructive is goint to happen day one
To give us a chance of lynching scum day one.
Vote: NinjaofDeath
What would Azrael do if he were mafia? Would he come out and let everyone know who he is, or would he try to remain in the shadows?
I contend that he would not make himself known. Azrael is a better player than that - eeven though he does have a propenstiy for day one gambits. So, by voting for Azrael, I believe you are, intentionally or unintentionally, robbing the town of a very valuable asset - a good strategist and analyst.
If NOD lives a few days, we should discuss how he survived, as Azrael is a pretty big target for the mafia. Until that time, I think we should use the tools at our disposal.
