For the mafia to win, the must kill all the members of the town. Most townies have only one tool: the lynch.
-While the game is in “Day” mode, any player may post in the thread. They may also FOS or Vote.
-FOS stands for Finger of Suspision. It has no direct bearing on the game, but it is a nice way to let everyone know who you are suspicious of.
-When any one player has reached a number of votes equal to the majority of the players in the game, that player will be lynched and the game will go into night.
-You may only be voting for 1 player at a time. If you want to change your vote, you must type Unvote before doing so.
-Votes, Unvotes, and FOSes should be bolded. (ex. VOTE: Puzzle or FOS: CropCircles)
There are 2 roles that are very common in mafia games that may be used in this game as well. The Cop and the Doctor, which are both town roles.
-During the night, the Cop may send me the name of 1 player he would like to investigate. I will then reveal to the Cop whether that player is a mafioso or a townie.
-The Doc sends me the name of a player that he would like to protect. That player will be immune to a nightkill for that night. (Note: The doc may not protect himself)
The mafia, or those who killed everyone, will win when they exceed or equal the town in number(at which point, they control the lynch). They may also post during the day and use both Votes and FOSes. However, they have another tool: the ability to nightkill.
-While the game is in night, the mafia may communicate with each other. Then, one of them will send me the name of 1 player to be killed.
-Once I have received the mafia’s Night Choice, as well as the choice of any other player with a night ability, I will post a morning scene detailing the public results of the previous night (i.e. who died), and Day will start.
There may or may not be other roles in this game. For reference, here are a few other possible roles:
-Vigilante: The Vigilante is a killer on the Town side who can either choose to kill every night, or choose to kill a certain number of times during the game, depending on the variation.
-Back-up Doc: Assumes the Doctor’s abilities after the Doctor dies.
-Back-up Cop: Assumes the Cop’s abilities after the Cop dies.
-Role blocker: Chooses one player per night to block from performing his or her Night Choice.
-Mason: The Masons are a group on the Town’s side who know each other to be townies and can talk to each other at Night.

I think that Ak's pointing out that Netfinity was trying to attack EER for almost no reason. This early in the game, trying to attack a player for a obviously joke OMGUS is pretty suspicious. Just FOS: Netfinity. For now, dismissing it as a overzealous newb tell, though, we all know how well that turned out last game...
What netfinity did is suspect for a couple of reasons.
1)Ea wasn't the first omgus. Goat omgussed JodoYodo first, but Net voted Ea
2)Omgus isn't scummy omgus in the random vote phase
3)When he just pointed out the omgus, it was a classic 'good townie' scum post, in that he stated the situation, but offered no analysis or commitment. When I called him on it, he immediately voted Ea, which is suspect to me.
We live in a country were ~50% of the populace believe public schooling is a socialist conspiracy and that being called Einstein is an insult. We could try and fix it, but unfortunately the other 50% don't believe in euthanasia.
oh, on the topic of dismissing things as overzealous newb tells;
THIS DOESN'T WORK IN NEWBS!!
Everyone here is essentially a newb. So any action by any player can be construed as a 'newb tell', meaning that we essentially have to throw out 'newb tells', because since they can be applied to everybody, they are useless.

I think we may be partially removed from the random stage so no need to keep the vote on.
I have questions for a few players.
@Netfinity: What's your explanation for the vote on EER? If you're willing to vote him for his joke OMGUS vote on BigTime, then why not vote me for my joke OMGUS on JodoYodo?
@AK: How do you use FOS's. Are they more of a "I'd vote this person if my vote wasn't already on someone" or a "I think they did something scummy, but I don't necessarily think they're scum" type of statement.
@iLord: You dismiss Netfinity as an overzealous noob, but you also FOS him? Something doesn't add up. You either think it was a noob-town tell or you think it was a scum tell. It doesn't work both ways.
I use foses as the latter of the 2.
Sometimes however, I'll say "this fos means I'd be voting you if not for X" and I'll explicitly state when I do that.
We live in a country were ~50% of the populace believe public schooling is a socialist conspiracy and that being called Einstein is an insult. We could try and fix it, but unfortunately the other 50% don't believe in euthanasia.
Hmmm... Apok, I see what you're getting at, and I managed to miss Netfinity's earlier post (yeah yeah, there's all of 3 pages in the game, and I'm already missing posts). I find Net more suspicious in that context, true.

Correct me if I'm being blatantly stupid here, but wouldn't it be the other way around? Wouldn't we want to give MORE allowance for newb tells, because everyone here is a newb? I'm not saying we call everything a newb tell, but we certainly should allow for a few screwups all around. Enlighten me as to why not to allow for newb tells, please?
I, too, would like to hear more from Net, in this light. Also iLord, as I didn't understand the last little bit of his post well, and would like it rephrased.

Netfinity's post came across as pretty newbie to me, hence my lack of vote. I only said newb tell because I believe that it's the explanation for his actions. If Netfinity wasn't as new, it would definitely be a scum tell; however, in this situation, overzealous newb fits better.
I didn't notice point 1. This's probably cause Goat stated his OMGUS out front, though (EER's was pretty obvious as a joke as well, though... I would very like to hear from Netfinity about his vote.)
Man Bear Pig's post is just showing that it's his first game. He's unsure at what level of participation is needed of him. No tell, except a newb tell here.
I use FOS as the second type as well. I thought that Netfinity did something scummy, but explainable with his newbness.
@Mryf: In Newb 16, a lot of the town thought that LordEdge was just displaying newb tells rather then scum tells. Eventually, we lynched CDM and he turned out to be scum.
So, iLord, which is it? Is Net newb, or scum? If he's a newb, why did you FoS him? If he's scum, why are you defending him?
You want a cushion for that fence, son? Or a vote iLord?

yeah, there were a couple of times as mod where I screamed at my computer, "Just Lynch LE already, he's obviously scum!!"
On the topic of newb tells, if we give people slack bcs they're new, we have to apply that slack to everyone and everything, so it's better to not give the newb slack, because it allows us to call scummy actions scummy and not get into the wifomish lands of "is it newb, or scum?", which is really similar to "no scum would do that..."
I agree iLord needs to stop sitting around on that pointy fence.
We live in a country were ~50% of the populace believe public schooling is a socialist conspiracy and that being called Einstein is an insult. We could try and fix it, but unfortunately the other 50% don't believe in euthanasia.
I FOS'ed to express my suspicion of the action. However, I don't think that Netfinity's scum because it's only his 2nd game, and the action seems a perfect fit for overzealous newbs.
This games only my third (If you count aSoIaF) so I wouldn't be counting me experienced yet.
you're getting rather defensive rather early...
What's wrong is how you felt the need to explain/defend yourself when nobody asked 'hey, where's MBP'
And how defensive you're getting now is intriguing to say the least.

Generally speaking, overexplaination, or feeling like you have to explain every little action is scummy.

Dude, no offence meant, but repeating the same thing over and over is not a defence. I'm going to ask this one more time: is he scum (and therefore deserving of a FoS), or is he a newb (and if so, why are you FoSing him)? Saying "Oh, I'm going to accuse him of being scum with a FoS, but then claim that he's town" is not good.

That was all directed to MBP, but the first sentence seems to somewhat apply to iLord as well.

There's no problem with that. It just wasn't a necessary statement. The game had just started not long ago, and plenty of people still hadn't posted yet.
Man Bear Pig's original post is basically a non-tell, the fact that AK FOS'd him for it is a bit suspicious in my opinion, and why I asked AK the question I did. He gave the correct answer, of course, but I'm still a bit wary since AK is willing to jump on anyone for anything.

Hehe. I felt the same way after CDM claimed Village Idiot. I couldn't believe people were so willing to believe it was merely a noob tell.
Regardless though, I agree with Myrf to some extent. We should be willing to give a little bit of slack to certain noob tells. Something like what MBP did (mentioning his absence, which wasn't really an absence) is just a noob tell, and doesn't suggest alignment either way. Something like LE did in the last noob game (bandwagoning multiple people, including the people who voted for him) is actually scummy. There's a difference between the two, and I don't agree with AK blurring the distinction.

@iLord: You dismiss Netfinity as an overzealous noob, but you also FOS him? Something doesn't add up. You either think it was a noob-town tell or you think it was a scum tell. It doesn't work both ways.
Sometimes however, I'll say "this fos means I'd be voting you if not for X" and I'll explicitly state when I do that.

You want a cushion for that fence, son? Or a vote iLord?
EBWODP: Ah, ok. Still, one would think we should make some sort of allowances. That being said, as one of the more experienced players (if mine eyes do not decieve), you get the short end of the allowance stick.

*ahem*
SO WHY DID YOU FOS?!?!
Seriously, you either FoSed him because he was acting scummy, in which case why are you defending him, or he's a newb, in which case, why did you FoS?!
yeah, there were a couple of times as mod where I screamed at my computer, "Just Lynch LE already, he's obviously scum!!"

Dude... I'm mentioning that the reason that I haven't posted yet is that I was gone...
Is there something wrong with that?
This games only my third (If you count aSoIaF) so I wouldn't be counting me experienced yet.

I don't think iLord's getting defensive. My feeling is that he's just repeating the same thing over and over, and hoping I go away. Which is kind of the opposite of defensive.
Funny how Ak said that I was overexplaining and Mryf said that I didn't post a defense.
