I am sad to see extended leave because I will miss Domain Zoo. I didn't play the deck personally but it is such a house and of the 2 best players on our team one of them played Domain Zoo at every extended event for the last two years. RIP: Domain Zoo
Noteworthy: RIP:Moment's Peace - You will be missed in stalling out with ever-evolving rogue deck strategies brought to you by Yours Truly, winning with Draco Explosion backup plans in extended since Ravnica.
At least Sensei's Divining Top, Fetch Lands, and Ravnica Dual Lands (Counterbalance optional) are still around.
Back to Standard for a moment
I have a very weird White/x shell that can stall long enough to use its filtering cards to find a finishing move. I just need some sort of combo to actually finish the game off. So, does anyone here know of any two to three card combos (aside from Reveillark combo, which I've tested and is the current backup plan) that just end the game, or even just a singleton or something that single-handedly wins games?
I expect great things from Shadowmoor. Long live Hybrid. I'm kind of dissapointed in the lack of true previews so far. Hopefully the Oona art on the Ultra Pro sleeves will be a new Planeswalker.
Hooray for new thread and all, but I've got Bitterblossoms to cast and Vendilion Cliques to interrupt your end of draw step with.
im miss extended, when ravnica goes out, to hell with magic!
Pretty much. Ravnica got me into competetive Magic, so I was completely broken when it left Standard, which is why I can't wait for this new Extended season, it will be like Standard when I first started. Ravnica is my favorite block in the history of magic, for draft and constructed.
I know that the Fetches are legal post-rotation, but what about the almost Duals like Flooded Strand. It's from Oddyssey. I don't know the blocks back then as well as I should. Thanks to whoever can answer this.
UW Tron is still awesome, as is UG Tron, but I think it loses Moment's Peace (Oddyssey), but I'm not sure. Could Dragonstorm or Perilous Storm become prevelent in the metagame? I know Affinity will be heavily played for sure. Beasts Rock, or any Rock deck really (actual Rock, not just decks) lose very little and still have Ravenous Baloth + Garruk synergies. Heartbeat might make a comeback to an extent, although it loses its Storm-based win conditions, which might be too severe in Extended, unlike the slower Standard (or does it lose Storm cards - I really need to go re-learn these blocks). Obviously Counterbalance decks will be around because they lose almost nothing, actually I can't think of what they lose at all.
Now that I think about Dragonstorm, I could see it make a comeback with Peer Through Depths to search for the namesake spell or more rituals, although I prefer the Pyromancer's Swath deck personally.
GoC's mana denial deck seems like it would have a pretty good chance as well. Maybe you could turn that into a Noobstax-like deck or something of that nature, but to be honest I don't remember the list you posted very well.
As for Lorwyn/Shadowmoor Block Constructed, I hope Shadowmoor brings something interesting to the table, otherwise I think Faeries is just the Best Deck.
I know that the Fetches are legal post-rotation, but what about the almost Duals like Skycloud Expanse*. It's from Oddyssey. I don't know the blocks back then as well as I should. Thanks to whoever can answer this.
Fixed.
I started working on a WURG aggro/tempo deck today for extended.
The only reason that the mana doesn't work occasionally is because normally you would search up a :rg: and :uw: dual which gives you access to all four colours without denying you or mana for your Gold Spells. The only problem is that you then need an additional White or Blue mana source to cast Lightning Angel, which can be problematic.
The deck also needs a way to draw a few cards, and having the curve top out at four kind of sucks, but I'll be working with some people on my team (one of whom now has Pro Points - wooh Go Bill!) because for most of them Extended is their favorite format. I'm pretty sure that either something like this, or GRB aggro will be the best aggressive decks post-rotation.
I just built an EDH deck! They've been talkin' about it on mtgcast for awhile so it piqued my interest. Running rith.dec for now. Its a fun format so far.
I am sad to see extended leave because I will miss Domain Zoo. I didn't play the deck personally but it is such a house and of the 2 best players on our team one of them played Domain Zoo at every extended event for the last two years. RIP: Domain Zoo
yes, that was a wild deck to play against. i don't have any problems with its departure...
I expect great things from Shadowmoor. Long live Hybrid. I'm kind of dissapointed in the lack of true previews so far. Hopefully the Oona art on the Ultra Pro sleeves will be a new Planeswalker.
if that's oona, then what is that extended planeswalker-looking art that looks like a faerie with all sorts of crazy crap on it?
Hooray for new thread and all, but I've got Bitterblossoms to cast and Vendilion Cliques to interrupt your end of draw step with.
i'll rune snag that bitterblossom, then play one of my own... ... (note - 'chops w/lark and i w/faeries 1-2'ed in some order at FNM. go us.)

those saw play, like, never, i think. couldn't fetch 'em. besides, odyssey drops out of extended too...
GoC's mana denial deck seems like it would have a pretty good chance as well. Maybe you could turn that into a Noobstax-like deck or something of that nature, but to be honest I don't remember the list you posted very well.
i'll repost it soon.
*edit* hell with it, in honor of my new banner, i'll post it now. besides, the book i put the list in is still over here.
As for Lorwyn/Shadowmoor Block Constructed, I hope Shadowmoor brings something interesting to the table, otherwise I think Faeries is just the Best Deck.
the deck needs, exalted angel! other than that, the deck looks pretty cool, maybe 1 more yosei and signets instead of talismans
i considered the signets, but the talismans are safer in that i don't need mana untapped to use them. remember, hokori keeps my lands on tapdown also.
whats the board look like
so far it should look like this!
3 or 4 threads of disloyalty
i dunno, i would need to test, see which matchups are bad and all of that...
btw, 4 wraths seem better than 3, as does 3 mutavault, maybe add 2 decree of justice since we are playing so many signets, and remand is not a bad idea
slow down there... wrath is my backup plan. i could probably squeeze out the 2 telling times for a wrath and something else. third mutavault is dangerous; in case i have to be in hardcasting mode while digging for a scepter, i need the access to colored mana sources. mutavault is just there for an eventual win condition. decree + hokori is anti-synergistic. i tried to find room for remand, but, if i want to get the shutdown going, there is little room for counterspells... remand is probably the one i'd want to use, though, should i have room.
im a prick
if you say so...

Um...this question is going to sound a bit stupid, but it's bothering me, so I'll just get it over with. Why do these creatures have two different species'? Did an elf figure out how to have sex with a tree?

Well, this is my first post in the new thread, as well as my first being a free man. Life is good right now, REAL good. Now I can focus on the bigger things in life for a while, like MTG and video games!! On a sorry note, I didnt win FNM this week because like an idiot I played fae and there was like 6 fae decks and the mirror match is just a homo who gets bitterblossom in play shootout. I should have never put down red deck wins, nuking those turds out of the sky , along with scorching the ground that kith and elves walk on. Ugh, I think I'm going to go for a ramp strategy for next week, either that or RDW back online. Playing decks with board sweepers just really seems to be the play to me right now, aggro is running absolutely rampart, and I have to do what I do best......kill dudes. As far as the new thread name......meh , I still think "you bring the face, we'll bring the smash" is just a better choice.

you're title, while humorous does not play off the clan name - which seems to be the play when looking at other decent clan thread names. And actually, we haven't been smashing that much face, lets be honest here...

so is prerelease at instead of ny at nj for us? it is for me...
i think the previews start in 2 weeks, not next week, actually
whats the prerelease date?
OK, FOR*******GET PRERELEASE, IM NEVER DRAFTING OR PLAYING SEALED EVER AGAIN
**** it, i dont know how to win in limited anymore! i dont
nothing makes sense, i get beat by kithkin while playing elves, i get beat by elves while playing kithkin
i get beat by treefolk with goblins, and then i lose the other way around, to hell with lorwyn draft, well, to hell with drafting, considering the fact that creature type based magic is still going to be here for the next year
and i swear, if those wizards sob's maybe a tribal block again, im going to shoot, and slit the throat of every person who worked on it
hell, ill even feed them to freaken fire ants, wow....
how the "pro's" win so much with this block, i have no clue, i drafted just about the same thing that jonny magic drafter, and i got my *** wuped by an elf deck, with a 1489 pilot on magic online
they must be the luckiest sons of ******* ive ever seen in my life!
well **** that
maybe ill do good at prerelease, as sealed is different than draft
eh... im ranting to much... although this post is one to laugh at
yeah... sealed is different, at least im still good at constructed,:evil::evil:
edit: i tested the U/W mana denial deck, cant seem to get it to work
Lol, chill, that post makes you sound horrible at magic.
OMG Satriani banned? That blows. Oh well. Guess I'll be keeping our convos on AIM then, lol.
@GoC asking about he art...the extendo art w/ the faerie thing IS Oona. It's the one on the card sleeves art too.
aw geez, relax mikey - it's just the intarwebs, calm down man.
Not I'm not defending either one of you, as you both have obvious strengths and weaknesses (and neither probably should have posted what you did...), just looking to move past the ridiculous flame feud you've got brewing here - besides it'll only get you into troubles. and honestly, we really don't want to read anymore about it - it's pretty lame.
on the upside, orb of insight is UP at MTG.com finally. And there are MANY STARTLING developments on this very site already (especially considering its only been up for oh, around 2 HOURS)... I even found a few myself (reflecting pool anyone?). good stuff...this set should be pretty interesting.

like i dont think mascioli ment to be offensive but like, you basically said it yourself. you said you draft what finkel drafted and then you loose. Then the problem clearly isn't the strength of your deck but your play. its like people can win grand prixs with nlu and then someone else can pick it up and 0-2 drop a ptq. instead of saying things like i dont get the set or pros are lucky, say i have trouble playing someone help me....and trust me im friends with a few of em,luck is not involved when they win. Obviously it sometimes is but usually they win based on their own playskill. and clearly mascioli bothered you because you didnt defend yourself, you went straight for the unrelated insult followed by the threat....this is clearly a sign in my opinion that he may have been right.....
theres really no point in defending myself because he'll just keep the stupid childish insults coming, and coming, and coming, and it'll end later than i ended it now...
YOU HAVE TO DEFEND YOURSELF!
This is the rule of the jungle. You wouldn't last 2 seconds in prison if you backed down from a challenger. You must stand your ground.
But seeing as how this is an online forum and not the weight room in Riker's you must put down that shiv and talk rationally.
Is drafting kithkin a good idea? Yes, It definitely can be.
I once sat down to play against an opponent in LLM and I kept what I thought was a decent hand. It had on color lands (3) a gray orge and a hill giant. It had playable spells and lands the problem was that my hand was terrible against my opponent and I didn't know it. He won the die roll and went first.
This is basically whats known as a kithkin players wet dream. The God Hand. Unprepared, no one can handle this in limited. Constructed decks have problems with this. But once you know what your up against things are easier to plan for. You can side in the dorks that you drafted just to have early plays. Exiled Boggart! BRILLIANT! Oakgnarl Warrior hit the benches! Also you are now playing first, kithkin loses potency when going second. You can mulligan till you get hands that are defensive enough to handle an early rush. A lot of people just keep hands if it has lands in it. 4 LANDS! AWESOME! Sometimes it is great to keep those hands and sometimes it is not. You have to be able to make those choices in each situation.
If you are playing kithkin: 3 lands oblivion ring, Kinsbaile Balloonist, Kithkin Zephynaut and Coordinated barrage is not really a great hand. It does have lands and spells that are castable but it is not aggressive enough for a deck filled with 1 and 2 CC dorks. You can mulligan to see if you pull a better start. Basically your "Bomb Rare" is that your deck is hyper aggressive, give yourself a chance to pull that "Bomb".
Some people think that kithkin is the best thing since sliced bread. Johnny Magic won a Pro Tour with it so it has to be great! But it isn't the best archetype. What he did was determine a tribe that no one was taking and stick with it. Up until that PT kithkin were basically shunned as being underpowered, Wizened Cenn and Goldmeadow Stalwart were 10+ picks because they relied on a tribe that was not respected. So Johnny got the creme of the crop of the white picks. Nowadays everyone wants to be like Johnny and picks every kithkin dork from the beginning of the draft. YOUR DOING IT WRONG!
Lastly, Luck.
Are people lucky sometimes?
Some more often than others?
You ever kill someone the turn before they kill you?
Someone ever do the same to you?
You ever draft all the best picks in a color only to find no one else is playing that color?
Was Finkel lucky to get all the White Weenies?
Was he lucky that 3 opponents opened blue bomb rares with double or triple Blue in the CC?
Was he lucky to never face the deck with Final Revels?
Was he lucky to never face the ThunderCloud Shaman?
Was he lucky to never face a festercreep?
Was he lucky to never face a hurly-burly?
Was he lucky that his opponent couldn't handle the fact he made a play mistake?
Was he lucky his opponent scooped in the Finals?
Is luck involved?
Is skill involved?
Is MTG frustrating beyond belief?
Is MTG fun enough to play for years and years?
TL;DR
All people get lucky
Never scoop
Cheese out that ****ER!
islandrs is right. Plenty of people t8'd with my deck, I just couldn't make the right choice with it myself when faced with difficult matchups. Yes it came down to my playskill. I watched Pat Chapin on a "bad" day and his plays were still pretty amazing. We talked after about how he was sick and got like no sleep and was making bad mistakes and all that...me missed t8 of GP Philly but did make t32 I believe. Sure there are variables you can't control - like a match against affinity where I never saw a deed or putrefy and died horribly. but it happens. there's a small amount of luck; but mostly it comes down to playskill - I probably should've mulliganed a bit MORE aggresively, or SB'd better, etc etc. experience, maturity, focus, and dedication are what contribute to great playskill. Some people never get it, and some people have it but can't always turn it on. hopefully you know what I mean.
and to address the reanimation comment - dude read the card, you need to PLAY the demigod to get back his buddies, not cheat him into play.

Pretty much. Ravnica got me into competetive Magic, so I was completely broken when it left Standard, which is why I can't wait for this new Extended season, it will be like Standard when I first started. Ravnica is my favorite block in the history of magic, for draft and constructed.
Fixed.
I started working on a WURG aggro/tempo deck today for extended.
Skeleton:
Kird Ape
Tarmogoyf
Gaddock Teeg
Loxodon Hierarch
Lightning Angel
Remand
Lightning Helix
TRADES
if that's oona, then what is that extended planeswalker-looking art that looks like a faerie with all sorts of crazy crap on it?
i'll rune snag that bitterblossom, then play one of my own... ... (note - 'chops w/lark and i w/faeries 1-2'ed in some order at FNM. go us.)
those saw play, like, never, i think. couldn't fetch 'em. besides, odyssey drops out of extended too...
i'll repost it soon.
*edit* hell with it, in honor of my new banner, i'll post it now. besides, the book i put the list in is still over here.

i dunno, i would need to test, see which matchups are bad and all of that...
slow down there... wrath is my backup plan. i could probably squeeze out the 2 telling times for a wrath and something else. third mutavault is dangerous; in case i have to be in hardcasting mode while digging for a scepter, i need the access to colored mana sources. mutavault is just there for an eventual win condition. decree + hokori is anti-synergistic. i tried to find room for remand, but, if i want to get the shutdown going, there is little room for counterspells... remand is probably the one i'd want to use, though, should i have room.
if you say so...

you're title, while humorous does not play off the clan name - which seems to be the play when looking at other decent clan thread names. And actually, we haven't been smashing that much face, lets be honest here...

He is,
Not I'm not defending either one of you, as you both have obvious strengths and weaknesses (and neither probably should have posted what you did...), just looking to move past the ridiculous flame feud you've got brewing here - besides it'll only get you into troubles. and honestly, we really don't want to read anymore about it - it's pretty lame.
on the upside, orb of insight is UP at MTG.com finally. And there are MANY STARTLING developments on this very site already (especially considering its only been up for oh, around 2 HOURS)... I even found a few myself (reflecting pool anyone?). good stuff...this set should be pretty interesting.

Me: Land
Him: Plains, Kinsbaile Skirmisher -3 (17)
Me: Land
Him: Wizened Cenn -6 (11)
Me: Land Gray Ogre
Him: Plains, Oblivion Ring my Ogre -8 (3)
Me: THIS LOOKS BAD!!!
