I like the Wisps quite a bit, it's nearly a black Shadow Rift, and will definitely see some fatties safely across my kitchen table.

Holllowsage is really good. Anything that gives him a tap ability means that every turn you have a discard effect. And really, just attacking with him is fine (though as with Fallowsage, you don't really want to do that). However, like Fallowsage, he's a limited card due to his cost-power ratio. Oh well. Maybe U/B/W Merfolk decks will use him.

The other card isn't that good at all. The cantrip effect is nice...but in the Lorwyn block we have Profane Command which gives all your creatures fear....and against another black deck it's pretty much useless. Granted, it might save your creature from a terror or something...but I'd much rather run something else than this in my deck, Limited or otherwise.

hmm, is the red version of wisps haste? That could be interesting in certain very narrow places.

I really think flashback or buyback should be made evergreen - so many little effects like these would become playable if you could use them multiple times.

Hm.

Maybe it just happens and no one can respond to it?

Maybe it triggers in the beginning of the upkeep step?

If a triggered ability triggers during the untap step, the triggered ability will go on the stack at the beginning of the next step (in this case, the Upkeep)

Yes, at which point it can be responded to. Here are the relevant rules:

303.1. As the upkeep step begins, any abilities that trigger at the beginning of that upkeep step and any abilities that triggered during the turn’s untap step go on the stack. (See rule 410, “Handling Triggered Abilities.”) Then the active player gets priority and players may play spells and abilities.

Wisps = 5, Aphotic = 1
Must be a common cycle indeed

By the way, the word "aphotic" is a real word meaning "dark, without light"; it's not the name of a place or culture on the plane of Lorwyn or anything like that.

Cool, another dark mirror version of a Lorwyn card!

If wisps are all one-mana ability granting cantrip commons....
Cannot wait for the other ones....

Thanks, Imp!

"Shriekmaw/Terror?" "Aphotic Wisps!" I doubt that would actually happen in a tournament, but it's possible. I'd consider the Wisps to be pretty high pick in draft because of the color theme - If I remember correctly, that means that it loses its other colors too, so it could be a great combat trick to turn off color-related abilities, like Wilt-Leaf Liege. Plus, obviously, it gains fear, so it could punch through the final damage for the win. The cantrip really makes this card playable, I like it.
