Default [SHM] River Kelpie, Isleback Spawn

Today I'm gonna give you some of the cards I teased you yesterday.

First off the whole text of the Shelldock Isle Kraken.

Inselrücken-Ausgeburt

Creature - Kraken (R)
Shroud
~ gets +4/+8 if there are twenty or less cards in the library of any player.
4/8
Mark Tedin
40/301

You see it's really related to Shelldock Isle

Here goes a card with a lot of Johnny potential. It makes your Flashback cards as well as your reanimation spells a lot better.. and it has some trick itself.

Riverkelp (Flusskelpie)

Creature - Beast (R)
Whenever ~ or another permanent is returned from a graveyard to play draw a card.
Whenever a card is played from a graveyard draw a card.
Persist
3/3
Jeff Easley
49/301

Makeshift Mannequin or Puppeteer Clique? Draw a card. Flashback Thinktwice? Draw two cards. Flashback Dread Return? Draw two cards.

Note that you even get to draw when your opponent does something graveyard based... phew... This could really become a powerhouse

Enjoy!

Keep 'em coming Noc bro, it's all good.

Flusskelpie goes straight into my UB Spellweaver Volute deck... I can't believe how good it's going to be now.

Thank you and thank you again... please spoil our dragon next if you can.

The kraken is a bit meh after seeing Oona as a fattie. i mean shroud is good so it is not a total waste but still, at 7 mana it lack oomph as far as it'ss body goes. If it only had evasion too....

The kelpie is wow....not only it screams break me it already goes into a lot of decks that work with the graveyard. It is also removal resistant, and combos with one of the major keywords with the set. Will be worth quite a bit I am guessing.

Thanks for the spoilers

Riverkelp gets a chance in my Legacy Dredge deck. Could be a one-of mainboard. I'm not sure if it's worth, but testing will tell.

It's all good bro, any news is good news. And rares are the best news of all!

Excellent work Nocturus, welcome to the rumor mill heroes list!

Kraken- In limited it will often be a 8/16 with shroud for 7(very playable), but it's too expensive for what it is in constructed.

Riverkelp- The concept is very nice and works well with persist but the 5cc is hard to make work.

Who said Haakon.dec? As far as I can see he and all knights (creatures anyway) will draw 2 each time they are played - which funnilly egough is slightly sick

Seriously, yes! Flusskelpie is such a better and funnier-sounding name in English than Riverkelp. And combined with that picture of a kind-of-cute little monster----hilarious!

It's too bad the beast is big. The ability would be much stronger on a cheaper, smaller creature instead of this heavy-costed beast.

I'm guessing the name is River Kelpie... Sygg, River Cutthroat accounts for 1 appearance of "river", and River Kelpie would account for the other 2 (Orb says 3 total). Riverkelp doesn't appear.

The card currently labeled "River's Grasp" itself requires 3 "River's" (and "river's" doesn't appear in the Orb), so "river" can't be part of the name of that card.

I wonder why it's a beast and not a horse/horse spirit tho. Kelpies are basically horse spirits (could possibly be an elemental or shapeshifter tho). Beast is just such an unflavorful choice. And when using creatures based off of existing mythology that fit into existing creature types (besides beast, b/c most everything fits into beast ), it's especially bad. That sort of crap bothers me.

I should make a deck filled completely with stuff with awesome German names.

As for the second part of your post: Sure, just like Roughshod Mentor would be better as a 3/2 for 3. The only way WotC is willing to print some of these effects is if they're on big/expensive creatures, because then they stay controlled without making the effect itself weaker.

Is it just me, or does every card seem cooler when its name is in German?

I'm very interested in seeing how the Kelpie works out. Perhaps add it to Project R? Too bad its 3/3, and perhaps the deck doesn't need more card drawing, but you never know.
