Edit: Removed attachments, I think a better patch has come out: http://www.magic-league.com/phpBB/about9103.html
Apprentice shadowmoor patch Back up your old files first as I have a ghetto old version of the morningtide patch with typos and stuff. Also, don't forget to put cardinfo.dat in the sets subfolder. shm2: fixed Giantbaiting and rarity of Torrent of Souls The program I used was http://web.archive.org/web/200505031.../appr2txt.html by Squirrel Last edited by karm1 : 04-21-2008 at 12:12 PM. |

good stuff.
make sure you put the cardinfo.dat in your sets folder, the other two in appr base folder. I made that mistake.

some features are missing... of course the cards are there to build decks but can't be selected through the format.
Effective May 2, 2008, the Shadowmoor set will become legal in this Block format, and the format name will change to the Lorwyn-Shadowmoor Block format of course, it's an unimportant feature... but i just tell you to make the patch as complete as possible so on the next edition, we could start from a perfect patch again... |

Thanks for the notice; yes you are definitely right that it's best to have a complete patch to build off of. I would look into the formats, but I understand that someone else has made a shadowmoor apprentice patch, and I assume they've done the formats properly, so I won't bother updating this one. (As I mentioned, I added the shadowmoor data onto a probably obsolete base cardinfo.dat, so I don't want this one to propagate and overtake the "official" apprentice patches...this was just a temporary patch cause I was getting impatient to play.) By the way, you don't happen to know where to get a Netdraft patch editor, do you...

Argh, I hate downloading apprentice patches. I forget everytime. Can someone remind me on the specifics? I keep on extracting the cardinfo.dat from my zip folder to the set folder in apprentice.

Is there an 'official' patch to be found somewhere?

Attached to this post (also here for your convenience: http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/attac...1&d=1209877333) is an Apprentice Shadowmoor patch compiled from scratch directly from the Gatherer database (so all the text is accurate, with the latest canonical wordings). I made it not by using Appr2Txt or MkAppr, but rather with a new program that I coded myself. Patch has already been tested with my player group.
This patch has several improvements over other patches: (1) Accurate and up-to-date card text---Since this patch is compiled programmatically from Gatherer, rather than human/manually-edited, the text is both accurate and up-to-date with the latest errata. (2) No diacritics or unusual characters---All diacritics and other unusual characters (such as the combined AE) have been replaced with their ASCII equivalents. This prevents problems with the display if the regional settings on your computer are not set to American or Western European, and also prevents problems with loading most decklists being distributed on the Internet, which as plain ASCII files omit the diacritics. (3) More sets---This patch assigns cards to the more obscure sets such as Battle Royale and Masters Edition. (4) Cards with colors that don't correspond to their mana costs (0-mana Kobolds, Evermind, Transguild Courier, the Time Spiral no-mana-cost suspend cards, the Future Sight Pacts, Dryad Arbor, Ghostfire) now are assigned the correct, non-mana-cost-determined color. The most visible effect of this is that they now display with the correct fill color when they are on the play area (the exception is Transguild Courier because Apprentice always displays five-color artifacts with the artifact fill color even though it internally "understands" from the data file that the artifact card is five colors; the same applies to Reaper King). (5) All the options under the menu References now work. (Most Apprentice patches in the last few years have omitted those items entirely. I've reinserted them, updated to the current B&R lists.) Since the original author(s) of Apprentice stopped development of it years ago, there have been no "official" patches, just people on the Internet with the appropriate technical knowledge or tools releasing patches through websites like this one (MTGSalvation) and Magic-League. Edit: It's just been pointed out to me that the original patch I uploaded was missing an option for SHM tournament packs (starters) in the sealed deck generator (it had boosters, but no starters). I've replaced the original patch with one that fixes this. Last edited by FirstType : 05-04-2008 at 12:12 AM. |
