Ugh, that's just ridiculous.. I would be sooo upset to find out someone swiped my deck. Something that took money, sweat, and much brain power to fine tune it to my playing likes, just to be taken.
being as i've been in tourneys, i can understand how it happens though. You got your deck sitting there, someone taps your shoulders to ask you something, while his friend walks by, grabs your deck as you look, and doesn't stop walking. Its chaotic at those places. Sorry to hear about your loss. I hope Karma comes back and bites them in the butt.

Good article. I always find it interesting to read the thoughts of an other player preparing for a tournament, no matter if he's an international pro or not.
Little nitpicking : the monored deck you were considering to play is NOT a Burn deck (in the archetype sense of the word), it's a version of Red Deck Wins. I know it's only terminology, but I felt like pointing this out because my own Standard monored deck, that I planned on playing at regionals (but finally didn't attend), is what I call a real burn deck. To me, a burn deck is one that ignores blockers and removal as much as possible and systematically sends its fire to the dome. The only creatures of a true burn deck are ones that act like burn, namely Keldon Marauders and Mogg Fanatic in current Standard. That archetype is the real home for Browbeat, which is worthwile only if almost all your non-land cards are reach. No matter the name you give to it, your monored deck nevertheless presents interesting card choices that I'll keep in mind. I like Keldon Megaliths especially; it seems it would be an even better fit for my Burn deck, which drops its hand quickly and wants to push damage while ignoring blockers. I am playing Mutavault and Ghitu Encampment in my current version, and I must admit it can be hard to get much damage out of them since I generally don't want to use my burn on blockers. I already briefly considered the Megaliths, but never tested them, and you make me feel like trying. |

As for the deck theft, I'm no much of a vengeance guy. I only hope they enjoy my cards as much as I did. But if I find out who did it, I'll definitely involve the police, unless some of the more, uh, friendly members of the community decide to take care of them. (I'm not local to where the regionals was taking place, and I'm pretty sure whoever took the deck is.) |

Enjoyed the article. I actually play online all the time and I agree with the Blue and Green builds. I don't agree with the red build, it's more sligh/RDW than burn, but semantics. Point is red IS going to exist in this format and it does match up nicely against blue, and it does OK against green early game. Problem I have with red is the mid game, they summon a fatty and if they have more than 8 HPs, GG. I'm also a main deck lash out guy so...
Couple of questions - you lost a couple of games. Was it player error (you know we all do it) or was it that people just rouge decked a few victories off you. Anyway, if you are ever online we should match up. I have a cool blue white build that dominates elves and ferries, but has some trouble with reveliark. |

I lost another match when, after losing the first game, I dropped my deck on the floor while sideboarding. I picked it up, and moved on. Except I missed a card (ponder, ironically enough), the judge found it, and I got GL the turn before I would have evened it out. To be fair, though, he played a third (for fun, and a what if) and he won the third. Still, two bonehead mistakes cost me a good chance at prizes. I won one round 1-0 and went to 1 on the 5th turn from Blossom, and that's also how I got my 1-1 draw. (I love extra turns a lot.) |
