I talked to a VERY reliable source about this today at the Louisville PTQ...The TV show is gonna happen, imagine Real world and Entourage mixed...but with magic.

Hehe, sounds awesome. I only wish they had started the show before GP: Indianapolis. My friend IRL was sending text messages to Chapin and Heezy imitating them and saying very funny things I can't post on these forums. The best part is that he was doing this when we were like 10-30 feet away so we saw their reactions and were laughing are asses off.

So...the idea is to show the plight of the geek? Hmmm...I'm intrigued, but I get the feeling this is going to be VERY, VERY bad.

Honestly, I know nothing about them, I just assumed by the statement that they're filming at Nats that it'll involve normal geeks like myself.
People seem to get the misconception that just because you play magic, your a geek...which is no where near the truth when it comes to competitive magic players.

I've seen a fair number of magic players in my time, and if statistics and logic have taught me anything, it's safe to assess that the typical Magic player is a 'geek' or a 'nerd' or is also lumped with people who play WoW and D&D, or hang out with people who play WoW or D&D.
Also since 'geek' and 'nerd', despite the seemingly easy generalizations, are subjective it's hard to say that something doesn't reflect those descriptions.
I guess I have to ask.....what would make someone who plays Magic not a geek? What sorts of things do non-geeks do that they could do to 'offset' geekiness? Is Magic simply not 'geeky'? All of these questions will lead to similar, but varying answers among the masses.

id say you are using stereotypes saying competitive players are not nerds, but when you say that it seems like you are saying all casual players ARE nerds. Maybe that wasn't your intention, but assuming ANYONE who plays magic is a nerd without any real proof isn't very nice. I think we can understand each other at this point though.

Does this confirm the rumors?
techoverrated.Yeah. I'm curious how he's going to be filming and playing at the same time if he's doing coverage. I wonder what it's going to be about...

Well, Chapin and his crew aren't exactly geeks, IMHO. Unless your referring to the other random scrubs that will be at Nats?

Honestly, although most magic players are geeks/nerds, most competitive players lead normal lives.

I never doubted that, but it still makes them geeks at heart.
People who play Magic and take themselves way too seriously are some of the most annoying people to talk to. Hopefully they don't get showcased.

Anyways, is this show more about the people (boring), or the event (less boring)?

well, if it was a documentary they would have to tell the truth...but they'll probably exagerate it.
