Books! Sweet! Finally a clan that suits me to a tee! Can I join?
I'm currently reading "The Haunted Bookstore", first published in 1919, and enjoying it quite a bit. Next on my list is "Tales of the South Pacific" by James L. Michener, the Pulitzer-prize winning novel that spawned the Pulitzer-prize winning musical. I'm very much looking forward to it.
But yes. The Haunted Bookshop is a little bit out of my depth, honestly, but I enjoy it nonetheless. It's very much an insider's view of the secondhand book trade, and so many of the authors brought up (and many many authors are brought up every chapter) mean nothing to me, because, as I mentioned, it's ninety years old. But extraordinarily well-written.
My typical reading fare varies wildly, honestly. Nonfiction, fiction, intellectual, pulp, fantasy, mystery, the occasional cheesy chick-lit...
So, right now, I'm reading an interesting book by an author I've never read before, but its gripping, certainly. It's called Blind Alley, by Iris Johansen and its a fascinating book! Fiction of course, but the story is gripping in a historical way as well. It's all about this serial murderer who is killing everyone who looks like this specific woman, and someone who looks like this woman, is the protagonist, and is being chased by this insane dude.. He removes their faces so he doesn't ever have to see their likeness ever again..... Creepy much?
EDIT: Ooh that was my 3,300th post! *sneaks a plate of cookies and a coffeepot over from the CoffeeHouse* Here we go Help yourselves, people!
Well, Ally, its a forensic mystery, and the gal's caretaker is a forensic sculptor.. and that's how the story began... somebody sent the skull to the forensic sculptor and the likeness, erm.. how do I say it.. Emerged.
But yeah... Apparently the original woman died over 2,000 years ago
For more, you gotta grab it yourselves... "Blind Alley" by Iris Johansen
Could i get a /friend, because it is nice to have someplace to discuss about books.
I'm currently reading through R.A Salvatore's Cleric Quintet, starting the fifth book in the series. It's much like rest of Salvatore's work - Nothing you'd call a masterpiece, but still something you like to read and that's enjoyable.
I'm not becoming a member, but I'll fill the form in anyway. (Partially.)
Favourite book(s): Ursula Le Guin's Wizard of Earthsea trilogy, most probably. Hard to decide though.
Favourite genre: Fantasy, although I read through all kinds of books.
Favourite thing to do (when not reading): I either play D&D, or just hang out with friends doing nothing worth a mention.

I love when books refer to things that you haven't read before so that it launches you into something else you should read. Not to mention that you can always look up what they're referring to on Wikipedia
And welcome to all our new friends and members! I'm super excited to be starting this clan and as soon as I think we're settled in and have enough members, we should start doing our book clubs.
My suggestion for a club would be The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz. It won a Pulitzer and looks awesome. Has anyone read it yet? What do you think of having it featured for a book club?

Before I go I want to ask what people think of the podiobook format. I've been listening to podcast novels for several months and have found some real gems. Ron Vitale advertised a podcast novel on "The Magic Sock" podcast and curiousity got the best of me. I subscribed to the novel, Brave Men Run: A Novel of the Sovereign Era by Matthew Wayne Selznik, and loved it and have been listening to them ever since. It was an adjustment at first because sometimes a book isn't finished yet and you have to wait for a new chapter. Alot of new authors are taking the DIY method to publishing and releasing free podiobook versions of their novels and then usually self-publishing paper versions in the hope that their listeners will want to own paper copies of their book.
Ooooh oooh, Trent, tell us about What Is The What cuz a friend JUST recommended that one to me!
Headin' home, I'll add the rest when I get back!
Well it's a somewhat biographical historical fiction about a boy, Achak Deng, who is fleeing Civil war in Southern Sudan. The book follows his life from the first attacks of the Murahaleen through reflections while he's living in the States. It's a fantastic piece of historical fiction and is one of the most historically accurate books I've read in a long time. It's also interesting to see how Achak parallels his life in two very different worlds. Pretty awesome!

Welcome to [Pages]!!!
I'm not sure how I feel about the podiobooks. I've always thought that half of the fun of reading is the ability to do it in a nie quiet place and I find reading more meditative than listening. Also, the ability to decipher words and re-read areas are crucial in understanding plot.
At the same time, I'm one of those people who can't read while in a vehicle (motion sickness) so I could see how they would come in handy. I've never used a podiobook but I think it would be cool to read the book once and then listen to it if you want to go over it again.
Welcome Pages crew! I see you've got your six initial members, that's good. Stay active! Please also figure out who will be the clan rep + send them off to post a Halloo in the Clan Council thread, as well your clan's profile in the Clan HQ.
I've just finished reading Trainspotting for the millionth time, + have started in on a book called the Moonstone by a contemporary of Charles Dickens', Wilkie Collins. Supposed to be one the earliest examples of the detective novel, setting a lot of the ground rules for what works well. Has a real Kipling feel to it so far, but I'm only just past all the introductory biography hullaboo.
The Phantom Tollbooth! I may or may not still have a copy of that still floating around, but I've read it dozens of times. I found myself thinking of it just the other day, actually, oddly enough. I miss it. I should try and find it and re-read it.
Neat clan idea guys. I would love to have the privilege of being a friend.
As for my reading, I have read a lot of the MTG books lately (working on Morningtide) and plan to read more novels by some of my favorites later. By my favorites I mean Joseph Heller, Dick Francis, and perhaps more Leo Tolstoy.

As for my reading, I have read a lot of the MTG books lately (working on Morningtide) and plan to read more novels by some of my favorites later. By my favorites I mean Joseph Heller, Dick Francis, and perhaps more Leo Tolstoy.
