Ok, so here's a preview. It uses base set cards, plus some from Alara. And Hostility? You use precons but can add cards later. And the graphics look awesome.
Nice preview.
And it's nice to play against the computer. That's what gives me (a beginner) practice to go up against a live opponent.
I just hope we won't have to shell out the big bucks for the digital renderings of Bitterblossom and Mutavault, cause I get enough of that in meatspace. Gnomesaying?

The knights see a mighty quarry. The dragon sees breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
So since it's called "Duels of the Planeswalkers" and the screenshot shows an avatar shot of Liliana Vess, what are the chances that the card pool would include Planeswalker cards?
Yes what old Shandalar did was give you a randomly generated starter deck based on what color you chose, and then you were sent out into the world to defeat monsters and find new cards to use. and you could edit your deck with those cards you collected. what it sounds like is that this aspect is intact in this new game, but was isn't in this new game is the ability to load a Deck editor outside of the adventure mode with all cards unlocked, and build decks that way. it's assumed online competitive play is done through decks that you collected through the adventure mode and not decks you build in the side-editor.
The decks Shandalar started you off with were abysmal. (On the harder difficulties at least) You would get cards from each color, but not the lands to support them. Eventually you would have to pick 2-3 colors to go with, and then could obviously splash later when you filled your deck with power 9 stuff.

Thanks sanhedrin! This gets me psyched even more for this game. I've always been a sucker for all the old Magic the Gathering brand games, no matter how bad they were (I'm looking at you Battlemage.) This one actually has very cool graphics and a variety of cards from what I've seen in the screenshots. I'll definitly be picking this one up as long as it's released for the PC as well.

Come on, you KNOW you ran the one swamp, Hyppie, Sengir, and 35 cards to pray that the random basics putting you up to 40 were swamps deck.
I sure as hell did

Tarmogoyf has no evasion, yet it sees tonnes of play. What makes this any different?
My question, honestly, is if the PAX demo included some ALA cards in it. That would be a very unique cross-brand way to preview ALA cards. I guess we would have heard by now if they did or not though.
Either way, this game is going to be well worth the 15 dollar price tag.

I actually moved to WW pretty quickly.
Land Tax, StP, Lions, and the rainbow pump knights were all pretty slick. Spirit link was actually useful in the dungeons too where you carried over life totals, nice to start duels at 30+ instead of 13 or so.
By the end though I learned why lesser-used cards like Timetwister and Candelabra of Tawnos were restricted back in the day. Especially in 40 card decks.

yeah I thought it was wierd that if you played on not-easy the way the game increased difficulty was make the deck less playable.

Land Tax? Never thought of that. I always went Black Weenie because Hyppie is SO good. And Cyclopean Mummy is kinda like Savannah Lions <_<

Yep, contract from below was utterly busted. B: draw 7 cards, win target game ... plus get an extra card off your opponent. Used to run b/w to play contract and lifelink.
Hmm .. I now have the urge to download it again and play.
Yeah, but EVERY deck ran Contract. The question was what color was your deck besides the splashes for Contract/Recall/StP/Bolt depending on collection.

That's Abyssal Specter in the first picture (along with Venerable Monk, Glorious Anthem, and Angelic Blessing), and then below we see Shivan Dragon, Incinerate, Cinder Pyromancer, Hostility, Blaze, Shock, and... can anyone make out the others?
(And oh yeah Plains and Swamp :p)

Yeah, no kidding. For the price of a draft...
Augustin, Rasputin, Bruna, Brago, Ojutai
Funny. I went Black Weenie because of Contract from Below - it was pretty easy to get 3 of (atleast from my pow).
