Woo: Creeping Mold, Elvish Bard (interesting old reprint), Elvish Warrior, Force of Nature (trample GOOD), Giant Growth (the last "boon"), Greater Good, Groundskeeper (even more in line with the colour pie now than when first printed), Llanowar Behemoth, Llanowar Elves, Might of Oaks, Needle Storm (Squall only made sense when it was first printed in Starter 1999 at 1G), Rancor (wooooooo, finally, yay, thanks WotC!!!! ;):p), Seedborn Muse, Summer Bloom (sometimes really good), Tree Monkey (simply put here to showcase the changes to the "spider" rule), Verdant Force, Verduran Enchantress, Viridian Shaman, Yavimaya Enchantress.
Poo: Craw Wurm, Ley Druid (better options available), Maro (still junk), Scaled Wurm (worse and more expensive than Rootbreaker.... ugh), Utopia Tree BOOOOOOOOOOOO, Web (why couldn't Rancor really be reprinted... it's kinda like web, right???), Weird Harvest.
Weird: Biorhythm (not even rotating out of Extended... did we absolutely need it in Type 2 for another couple years?), Order of the Sacred Bell (snuck that one in just in time eh?), and Weird Harvest again. WEIRD.
Looks like white is the champion. Someone hand-picked every white card and made it the best it could be, except maybe Sacred Nectar could have been Soothing Balm. Everything else is playable, cool, useful. The other colours weren't so lucky!
EDIT: couldn't resist, urzassedatives just got 0wn3d
~ACTUAL POST~
Wow, monogreen will be awesome in T2.. Utopia Tree, Llanowar AND Birds..
Biorhythm is interesting..
Elvish Bard for some random jank.
Might of Oaks better have good art.
NICE! Rancor.. and Elves.
River Bear is jut weird.
Seedborn Muse is neat.
Web BETTER NOT be rare.
The bard is interesting - but Rancor?
RANCOR!!!!
We all wanted it but to see Rancor and Ape in the same set is mind boggling!
ugh
turn 1 mox imprint something red, play a kird ape .
Play forest - rancor that ape.
Thats a 4/3 Ape with trample on turn 1. that is one pissed off little monkey!
well, atleast until mirrodin rotates out...
EDIT 2 - Fixed my math on a Rancored KIrd Ape and began to wonder with tree monkey and the ape back, i wonder if there will be a monkey theme/tribe/guild or something in rav...
hmmmm.......
Biorhythm - Continuing the WTF cycle of Battle of Wits and Form of the Dragon and such... Rootbreaker Wurm - Back in tempest block, this was an incredible card in limited... Instead of junk, at least green gets tramplers now... Seedborn Muse - The only non-sliver Legions card I got a playset of... Ah well, it's actually pretty good in my view... Anaconda and River Bear - The opposite-color hosers along the lines of other's CoP, Boiling Seas, Slay, and Withering Gaze... Elvish Bard - What? I liked Taunting Elf better... This thing costs too much and it's going to die during combat anyways...
And Urza's Sedatives: You did this too, and like little children, we follow by example... Daddy Mod taught me to spam!
turn 1 mox imprint something red, play a kird ape.

Thats a 5/2 Ape with trample on turn 1. that is one pissed off little monkey!
well, atlreat until mirrodin rotates out...
Don't you mean...
1) Mountain, Kird Ape.
2) Forest, Web.
That's a 2/5 monkey that blocks flying creatures.

Okay, it sucks, but at least it uses cards that are ACTUALLY IN NINTH EDITION.
Ahem I think we all know that Biorythm had to be in 9th so that I could make a crazy bad deck with it. I heart Biorythm This green makes my feel all gooey inside.
Reclaim. River Boa. Rancor. the three Rs of knowledge. And all are so gonna be uncommon I can just feel it.
Those who have Rancors from Urza's Legacy better hold onto them because this might be the first common in a looooooooooooooonnnnnnggggg time to crack $10 a pop.
Utopia tree was more or less a given. But how it's going to be when Rav comes out is going to be quite interesting. Wizards is trying so hard to make Rav be like Invasion again. A black-bordered non-foil Birds of Paradise is going to fetch a haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrdddddcore dollar value.
Interesting selection.

I don't like what's implied here...are we getting rancor or not!? :slant:
If not, this is still some awesome green. If yes, I won't have to strangle a 1/1 elf without his rancor. :tongue2: (j/k, but that is in very bad taste as a joke)
EDIT: Oh wait, nvm. You meant that the mox wasnt in 9th...I gotcha. *Whew*
EDIT: That is what you meant isn't it!? Please be honest with me here elfy!
Anyway, Woo! Overgrowth, I've been wanting a reprint of this since Tempest block rotated. And Groundskeeper is good to see as well.
Rootbreaker Wurm! This is excellent!
Seems like green is back to having the landwalkers as their color hosers, they could at least have given us River Boa instead of River Bear in that case, oh, well. Good to see Viridian Shaman in the base set, and, holy crap! Seedborn Muse!
Okay, it's official, 9th edition rocks!

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).

I think he was referring to me using the chrome mox in my example...
I used a t2 example, he used a 9th only one. I still like mine better
Thank god they didn't reprint Plow Under... I got sick of that; being plowed to death with the aforementioned Witness and sometimes Revive to lock me down...
Rancor is just pure sweetness
I think 9th is probably the best core set ever printed yet, and I'm getting a box as soon as it comes out. 8^)
hmm...well, I really hope that Web is down-graded to common or uncommon. If it stays as a rare, ugh! I would have given up the all rare slots taken by Emperor Crocodile, Maro, Utopia Tree, and Verduran Enchantress just to see Argothian Wurm.
Awwwwwwwwwwwww. Ok, maybe it as a typo. On purpose. Come on, don't do this to us Ranque!
still, it's a pretty decent listing compared to what we got back in 7th and 8th. Notice how they're pushing a lot of the Portal cards with this edition. I guess they want to speed up the rate some of the cards become tourney legal prior to its official legalization in October.

Yup, pretty nice set overall. Lots of gems, plenty of playable goodies. Not as geared toward limited, I think, which is good. Base sets are about supplying us with cards for legal sets... staples. Not for crap commons for draft.
They've been putting Portal cards into other sets since Portal came out in 97. More than half of all the Portal cards have been reprinted - dozens every block, and every Core.

Web is NOT COMING BACK AS A RARE.
That would be DISGUSTING.
How could they ever justify it being a rare, anyway?
Of course, I am most pleased with the green, white, and lands...
Once again, they did some random stuff here too...
King Cheetah. Heh. I think he was the first 'instant' creature.
Hence he is a Cheetah.

I'm glad Bears are still around. Grizzly and River being in is nice.
Tree Monkey always should have been in. And Treetop Bracers is a great add.
And Rancor??? Looks like they are pushing Elf decks big time.
