Both abilities work very well with Exalted. Not as good as the tapper ones, but this is quite reasonable.

I don't really like this cycle. It would've been cool if they made more comes-into-play cards (like Sunscape Battlemage), except maybe this time give them flash and water down the abilities a bit. With these, it looks like they took stuff that could've easily gone on a 1 or 2 mana 1/1 (Shadow Guildmage) and bumped it up to 3 mana because it's a 2/2.

(still, it's better than Disciple of Kangee...)

The interaction with Exalted is pretty good, but I don't know about Constructed good. It sure does play nice in Limited. One thing that strikes me as odd is that the other Battlemages we've seen have abilities that by themselves could win you the game (token generation and life loss), but this one lacks it.

So this essentially proves that the abilities won't be the same for the battlemages that share an allied color. That's good.

actually that's just the jund mage, the naya mage pumps and taps down (which also works with exalted). I think in limited this could win games because of how strong flying is.

It seems good in limited.
I don't see why you would give trample to your creature if you could give it flying... unless they have a flying chump blocker, that is.

Maybe I expect to much but doesn't 3 mana seem to much for a guildmage, Either cost at 1w or with the abilities only requiring a tap would make this much more playable and still not be over the curve. It's not so important that it's a 2/2 if it's going to be using it's abilities and not attacking.

I agree. It seems as though the flying ability trumps trample most of the time. The most likely case where you don't use flying is if you don't have the blue mana available.

However, it is worth pointing out that this battlemage's abilities correspond VERY well to other shards if you only use one of them.

The green and white also goes with Naya, which has lots of big beasties that would love to have trample. Meanwhile, you could be running Esper and be able to give your creatures flying.

Now that I think about it, the other battlemages work this way too.

You're comparing these battlemages, which are Grey Ogres at worst, to the Laces? That's a bold statement.

Great in limited, shame the cycle isn't common.

But then again, with such a small set size, maybe they belong at uncommon...

This is about what I expected, given the previously spoiled battlemages.

MODS: Could someone please add the [ALA] to the thread title? Thanks.

Feel free to pass all of them to me in draft. I won't complain, I promise

I don't like this one much--It gets some damage through but doesn't add anything to your board position the way tappers or token generators do.
