The loss of "innocence" was the last straw. The dictionary didn't mind losing words like "panties" and "finnimbrun." If a few unpleasant words disappeared, so much the better. If a few words disappeared who rarely find work because they can't convince anyone their resume is up-to-date, who really gets upset? But how can one condone the brutal erasure of such a useful and blameless word as "innocence"? Words have been disappearing from the dictionary every night, and "investigation" narrowed the culprits down to the 12 of you before it too was brutally blotted out. Now it's up to you to hunt down those with no respect for the English language and put an end to their wanton destruction.

Somehow I doubt that rolenames are going to help us hunt down scum, since even if they claim the first letter of their name, they have like... a DICTIONARY FULL of false claims?
That being said, I'll go along with it.
Vote LampDwellr for going along with such a reasonable plan.

I was going to vote Cyan because he was holding up the game, but then the game started.
I was going to vote LampDwellr because that totally sounds like crypto-claiming, but someone beat me to it.
I was going to vote Emo Pinata and StormBlind because they didn't place a random vote, but I can't double vote.
So I will vote Kraj, for being the only person who hasn't posted.
Somehow I doubt that rolenames are going to help us hunt down scum, since even if they claim the first letter of their name, they have like... a DICTIONARY FULL of false claims?
They do but if let's say they want to claim supersaint down the road and they've said their name starts with a letter that doesn't have a very good equivalent that starts with that letter...you can see where I'm going here. It'll help people claim-verify and will lock any liars into potentially uncomfortable situations. It won't help scum find power roles. I like it.
To prove I'm not just being dumb about this, my first letter is "u". As in "u should reveal your first letter too!"
There are only so many names a doc can have. And while a first letter claim won't directly tell us who he is, it will tell us who he is not.
For instance, if LampDwellr's name truly starts with a U, then... I defy anyone to find me a word that would fit for a doc and also starts with a U. Come on, I'm waiting.
This is not a terrible point...but why feed Some One an answer?

The doc does not actually have to be an actual doctor, flavor-wise.
An unguent is a soothing preparation spread on wounds, burns, rashes, abrasions or other topical injuries (i.e. damage to the skin). It is similar to an ointment, though typically an unguent is less viscous and more oily.
u is also upstart, upheave, etc. all that can be viewed as scummy. That being said, there's probably more scummy words than townie words, making the information better for the scum IMO.
I think the more helpful claim would be adjective, noun, verb, etc. That narrows the field waaay down in comparison to the first letter, and keeps the information in the pro-town relm.

ZDS runs with it and makes it sound even more compelling than it is. If andelijah's posts seemed forced, this one seems about 10 times as forced.
This is not a terrible point...but why feed Some One an answer?
Indeed.
I'm always skeptical of mass claims based on my faith that mods anticipate them and build ways to keep the game from breaking around them. But considering that the town always seems to end up on the happy side of a mass claim, I'll do whatever.

The Golden Rule of forums: If you're going to be rude, be right. If you might be wrong, be polite.
I didn't say it was anti-town. I just said it was retarded. There's no reason for scum to lie. And it's bordering on crypto-claiming.
Unfortunately it seems you voted for me based on it. That would indicate that you think it's anti-town.
Fakeclaims will be harder to come up with. There aren't reasons for scum to lie at all...but they'll be locked into a letter and I could see that making things tough later on once we know what kinds of words are in the game (from deaths) and it comes time for them to fakeclaim.
Oh, and it is absolutely not bordering on crypto-claiming.
If you really want to "lock" the scums (who not only have access to thousands of words to choose from for each letter, but also have buddies to help them in case they can't find any inspiration), then you should ask for the last letter as well, or for the number of letters in the word, or... whatever as long as it's narrower than just the initial letter. And by narrower, I mean far narrower. Narrow to the point of actually being dangerous to the town.
Basically : it's not a bad idea in theory, but I don't see how it can be performed in practice without hurting the town more than the scums (see also : my previous point about the doc)
But I answered your previous point about the doc, I think pretty darn well.
Furthermore I think you're slippery-sloping here, pretty badly. What I advocate should have an incrementally pro-town manifestation, and that should be kind of obvious.

The first and last statements are somewhat contradictory. For it not to find power roles, every letter has to be able to be every role, which invalidates the supposed helpfulness that it limits what claims are for what letters.
So I'll rephrase my earlier response - I rather not do a massclaim, but if it is going to happen, it needs to do so quickly.
But I answered your previous point about the doc, I think pretty darn well.

Meh, I figured some information could be gained by the word types that letters doesn't allow for. I don't like either idea the more I think about it.
Also, I'm generally refered to as EP in mafia.
This is a lame attempt at making a super-weak attack sound more compelling. For being a gut-reaction during the random stage that's no big deal. But:

You continue to strike me (and I'm not the only one) as randomly bonking me on this issue for town cred. "u r dum"/"u r scum" is not a response.
I don't get this reference. Is this random sniping? Did you two have a bad breakup or something?

By incremental I meant that it is small and gets slightly more helpful as the game goes on.
He's slippery-sloping by saying that for anything good to happen we'd need to ask for end letters, no wait middle letters too...
Oh, I follow you now on the slope. Duh, I'm tired.
I don't think the incremental value applies. The value is obviously long-term, but I don't think it becomes better endgame than it is mid-game.
