I had been wanting to make a mono red burn style deck for EDH for a while (being the consummate red mage of my playgroup) but I couldn't find a general that would facilitate such a thing..until now..
without further ado, I present,HEARTLESS HIDETSUGU!!
Perhaps a Wheel of Fortune for when you run out of gas. Might want to try out Scrying Sheets and some snow mountains to go with that thawing glaciers. Banefire can easily replace the blaze when you get one. Maybe try adding a Chain Lightning in there, imagine the shenigians with a Mirari.
Yea, tapping Hidetsugu with a wahammer equipped is definitely what i would call 'living the dream', but honestly, it's difficult enough just getting him out to do the damage.

and yea, the elixir is awesome (it was one of the first cards i put in the deck) once, i was SO close to the PERFECT hidetsugu game because of it. check it out:

turn 3: land, sol ring, elixir
turn 4: land, play Hidetsugu, pass the turn
end of opponent's turn: tap Hidetsugu - opp @ 20, untap w/ elixir, tap Hidetsugu again - opp @ 10
turn 5: HIDETSUGU'S SECOND RITE!!!!!
and then the guy said..... counterspell.... so close and yet so far......
that's ok, i did get to kill someone with hidetsugu's second rite later - quote from that game

It's my all-time favourite Rolling Thunder - 500000 times better than Fireball, Blaze, Disintegrate, etc. Fanning the Flames - 40000 times better than Fireball, Blaze, Disintegrate, etc. Temple of the False God - Like Scorched Ruins, but better (run both) Flameblast Dragon - No love for this guy? Ensnaring Bridge - A great way to protect yourself as you sit behind it and burn your opponents to death Blood Moon - punish non-mono decks Grab the Reins - fanTastic red creature removal, direct damage, stealy effect, and gives Hidetsugu haste Nevinyrral's Disk - as a red deck, you need this Oblivion Stone - ditto Kher Keep - not "why?", but "why not?" Wheel of Fortune - a great form of red draw, esp. if it's the only card in your hand when you play it and everyone else has multiple cards in hand Sun Droplet - how is this not in your deck already??? Darksteel Citadel - noticed you're running Obliterate Mana Geyser - A lot of X spells, a lot of opponents, a lot of mana, what's not to like?
Cut Shattering Spree - Viashino Heretic is better Shatterstorm - Gorilla Shaman is better Fireball - Rolling Thunder is 5000000 times better Blaze - ew. Demonfire - Can't be prevented isn't bad. Blaze with buyback is better, because reusable removal is king in EDH Disintegrate - see Demonfire Isochron Scepter - not enough instants to make this work as well as it could Flames of the Blood Hand - A horrible topdeck when facing down a big creature, an army of small creatures, or anything else. Little bitty removal like this is not worth playing in multiplayer, and especially not in EDH Fireblast - see FotBH Pyroblast - too narrow. A horrid topdeck late game if your enemies aren't blue. Also forces you into making the blue guy at the table your enemy, otherwise it's a dead card. No love for Overblaze? it has a fair number of advantages over stuff like Furnace of wrath, people don't see it coming.
RUN LOXODON WARHAmMER. It is the #1 reason to play a heartless hidegstu deck. Not mentioning the fact that i play warhammer in all my decks, because its so good in EDH imo. But also, i mean equipping warhammer to Hidegstu is barely any harder then untapping with hidegstu himself. Play warhammer before, then play hidegstu. Either they have removal or they don't. In multiplayer EDH games people are going to not want their life totals going down, they'll remove him if they can. If he untaps, then you have warhammer. It also lends a ton of mileage to the deck. Equip on flameblast dragon? Good times.
And I second most of the changes nicol bolas makes. Red decks need milage, even Hidegstu ones.
Just a side note our group has started to call this deck "20 Minutes" because there hasnt been a game where it was much longer or even that when he played with Hidetsugu.
Well, i made a number of changes from the original list. instead of listing it again in this post, i simply edited the list in the first post of the thread; if you want to see it, just check there. I've incorporated a number of things that were suggested here, but there are still a few things i'd like to add. Namely, a Lightning Greaves, and Banefire. You'll notice that, as suggested, I've added quite a few cards to give the deck a little more 'gas', like wheel of fortune, and font of mythos.
I like it, but always make sure to have that WR in hand because Heartless does the same thing to you. and I remember playing against a deck like this, and when we were both down to ten I swerved his banefire back at him when he went in for the kill
I'm not a huge fan of giving my opponents cards. I understand red needs some gas, and wheel is usually ok because you usually have played out your hand faster and are making opponents discard useful things when you play it. However instead of Howling Mine type effects you could use Jayemdae Tome type effects instead.

I had a deck somewhat like this. It was goblins. I used skirk fire marshal to kill everyone. It was a suicide deck lol but maybe you could run more effect based cards so you don't have to worry about counters as much?
I play this "combo" in my Kaerveck deck with uses both Pestilence and Pyrohemia and it has proven useful in many situations. It won't be as game-breaking as other spells, but it could really upset some decks!
I played it in my Zozu build (then switched to Hidetsugu) and I found it powerful at times but that it lacked some more "additionnal ability" to make it worth its slot. Big is ok... but not really enough as you play mostly spells in this kind of deck. Each of your creatures should really have some kind of firing / threatening power.
You shouldn't as you alreday don't have draw, so if you remove your lone "top deck clearing spell"... You should add Darksteel pendant.

probably right about the top.....i'm getting desperate for what to cut....the list is getting tight. You mentioned the pendant before and i totally forgot about it....need to get one of those.
any other suggestions for what to add? (think MASS :mad1: DAMAGE)
Wow, this is a VERY nice EDH deck. There's so much synergy with all of the cards... that's why I love the format so much.
If I might add a few suggestions, Volcanic Fallout definitely has its place here. Uncounterable mass damage is good. And maybe Stuffy Doll, seeing as you have lots of board sweepers and whatnot.
If I get a chance to do so, I'm definitely going to try building something like this.

i've never seen in the web of war. that would be pretty devastating in my goblin deck too. imagine making 10+ tokens with THAT in play......
