Default [RAV] Convolute

Sent by an anonymous source which has previously provided me with info. He says he'll be able to get us more in a few days - sounds good to me!

Convolute -
Instant (C)
Counter target spell unless its controller pays .
#40/306

And no, it's not strictly better than Flaccify because Flaccify causes your opponent to take 1/2 a manaburn.

A slightly worse Mana Leak but I think it's playable in some decks. A "hard" counter until turn 6 or so, and then it still works unless they've got a ton of mana out and they're only casting little spells.

I'll add it to the Partial Spoiler!

Nothing to write home about, but a solid counter for sure.
Once youve filled up 4 slots with man leak this will be your next option especially if your going multicolor.
edit: first first post!!!:grin2:

Not a bad piece of cardboard. At least at common anyway. Could get some use if there's more good blue stuff in the block.

Reminds me of when we found out about Oppressive Will.

It's splashable, though not quite as good as Mana Leak. This might see play with some kind of Land Lock deck that uses Hokori

decent enough, although it probably won't have much use until Hinder rotates out.

Their is a Kamigawa card that does the exact same thing. The card is from Champions, I do not recall the name though.

If you mean Thoughtbind, I'm gonna have to say no. It's also a counter for 3 that does something with 4, but it's a different card altogether.

About the card itself: meh. Will have some place in draft, I'm sure. But I don't think it will fit anywhere else

Actually it's strictly worse.

That counters a spell with converted mana cost 4 or less.

This one counters target spell unless its controller pays

Eh, it's alright I guess. But I still think they should bring back Counterspell.

I only hope this is the worst counter on the set, not the only one. Hopefully there are something similar along the lines of absorb and undermine but I'd really appreciate some 2 mana hard counter instead of all these "counter target spell with mana cost X or less" and "counter unless its controller pays X". Let it be the counterspell with some drawback. Also I'd like to see a counterspell with alternative casting cost similar to that giant growth variant although simply tapping a creature might be too good. It's about time we start to get believable counter magic which we haven't seen in years.

Good to see Mana leak's big brother, or should that be little brother?

Although my hopes for Dissipate or an Absorb/Undermine variant have been all but shattered with this card...

Cheers to the Source of this info for this card, and hopefully more to come, and to R_E for getting it to the mill, you da man bro...!
