Default [ARB]Playmats/Card Art and names

Got a promotional e-mail from one of my local tourney organizers, asking people to preorder boxes of ARB, and they had images of 5 cards which will be made into playmats.

Mistvein Borderpost by Pete Venters

Fieldmist Borderpost by Michael Bruinsma

Wildfield Borderpost by
Zoltan Boros & Gabor Szikszai

Firewild Borderpost by Jean Sebastien Rossbach

And finally Veinfire Borderpost by Ralph Horsley

Looks like some sort of dual color artifact cycle, possibly manafixing.

Very interesting, cool find!

These definitely look like mana fixers, probably tapping for mana as opposed to fetching lands...

It seems like:
Mistvein = U/B
Fieldmist = W/U
Wildfield = G/W
Firewild = R/G
Veinfire = B/R
...not that it isn't clear from the art anyway

edit: right, shards work too

That's pretty clever, marking where the shards are merging together. The backgrounds are quite nice.

interestingly enough..

Mistvein Borderpost - Esper-Grixis
Fieldmist Borderpost - Esper-Bant
Wildfield Borderpost - Bant-Naya
Firewild Borderpost - Naya-Jund
Veinfire Bolderpost - Jund -Grixis

well another strong hint on how shards would ally each other in the new alara..

This somehow beats the Shards of Alara and Conflux playmats by far!

Not that "Esper" exists in Alara, but if they produce wedge colors or 4 color, they'd still have w,u, and/or b in them.

Seems pretty clear these are allied. Especially with the info we have so far.
Can these be enchantments? Is that a stretch?

Anyone else notice that all the names share the same word structure?

Mistvein = mist + vein
Veinfire = vein + fire
Firewild = fire + wild
Wildfield = wild + field
Fieldmist = field + mist

From this, and if darkhiroki is correct, we can assume that:

Mist = Esper
Vein = Grixis
Field = Bant
Fire = Jund
Wild = Naya

And so:

Mistvein = Esper-Grixis
Fieldmist = Esper-Bant
Wildfield = Bant-Naya
Firewild = Naya-Jund
Veinfire = Jund -Grixis

These are very nice.

If colored artifacts are spreading beyond Esper, I think that more or less conclusively proves that the other "shard mechanics" are doing so as well.

I'd guess something along the lines of:
Firewild Borderpost 1gr
Artifact
taddgrwb to your mana pool.
