While this isn't my first EDH deck, this is the one I'm working on at the moment. The goal of this EDH is to beat, while work well with multi-players. There's not too many combat/control tricks as it focuses on swinging with a guy, especially if Rafiq is in play.
The deck will change every so often if a card isn't pulling its weight or if a better card can replace it. I keep an eye on the other Rafiq threads as well, but if you want to suggest something here, I'm not going to complain. I'm not looking to pull any "cute" EDH combos with this deck (Condemn/Tunnel Vision, Palinchron/Brain Freeze, Crucible of Worlds/Strip Mine), but win with combat damage; I have other decks for those. I don't care if I with through Radiq damage or regular creature damage, that's how I want to win with this deck, so keep that in mind if you want to comment here.
Without further ado, the deck as it stands right now (4/2/09):
Also why have only 20% of creature that can equip O-Nigata in your deck is a good thing? You have a lot of creature that just sit around and look at your equipment, wondering how to use it if rafiq isn't here. Also equipement that bring nothing expected moar damage are pretty bad, put some boot instead.
Also why... why no Might of Oak?Insta-kill with rafiq seem funny
Um, Ninja of the deep hours and mistblade shinobi don't work as well with Rafiq as you might think. If you ninjutsu them in, they won't get Rafiq's bonus. so it's alittle inaccurate to say 'bounce your creature, counce two of thiers'
Akrasan Squire" target="blank">Akrasan Squire just seems weak. I know it helps with swinging with Rafiq, but a 1/1 dude for W isn't that good in multiplayer.
@KirdKitty - SoLS and SoFI seem good, especially in this deck. And with the tutoring effect, I might just have to throw those in.
- You're right, I don't have a Sol Ring in there. Yes it's good, I have it in my other EDH decks, which might explain why I don't have one here. I think I ran out of them.
- O-Nigata can equip with 20% of the deck when it coes into play (including Rafiq). I didn't include varible creatures such as Scion, Draining Whelk, or Forgotten Ancient. And with all of the other pumps in the deck, most of the time, it's going to be used.
- As for Might of Oaks being funny? It fits my playstyle. I'll see if it goes in.
@NightArcher - You're right, good catch. Stupid rules. Mistblade most likely will see the boot now and throw in something else (Might of Oaks?).
@bccarlso - Akrasan Squire is weak, but it's one of the few one-drops that will also pump and be ignored by most multiplayers until I start abusing it. It may get dropped, but I want to see how it plays a few games.
Thanks for the advice. Any other comments/questions? Anyone use anything in their Rafiq deck that surprises people that works rather well?
There was a nice play where I had a Rafiq in play and my opponent was under 0 life yet had a Platinum Angel in play as his only creature. I swung with my Mistblade Shinobi and let him choose if he wanted to block it or return it to his hand.
Any other ideas you guys want to throw out there before the new set arrives and I throw everything out the window?
