It's back again, folks. Run first by Kenaron, the second round has recently concluded, and apparently I won. That means I will be your judge for this round.
Rules
What is the Double Dare game all about? Briefly put, you provide challenges, I pair you up, you make cards, and I judge them, with the winners moving on. There is a twist, however - in order to prevent people from making challenges that are impossible to design for, any player has the right to "double dare" their opponent, forcing the opponent to make a card for his or her own challenge. In that case, I will provide a challenge for the "daring" contestant.
Got it?
Get Started!
I need 16 players to sign up by posting a challenge. This should be something similar to what you would see in the MCC (formerly FCC); for example, "Make a red creature with haste," or "Make a land that produces Goblin tokens." You are NOT required to provide bonus points this time around; feel free to add some additional criteria that designers can use if they want an extra challenge, but only the basic concept will be considered for judgings, and I reserve the right to alter challenges as I see fit.
At Kenaron's suggestion, judging will be done in a more holistic fashion this round, with detailed comments but no precise points system. This could change if it doesn't work out.
Schedule
We will begin design as soon as I have 16 challenges (that means you will be skipped if you leave a placeholder post and I get 16 challenges after that). I am going to shoot for 3 days to submit designs, but it could take longer if we need to adjust for dares and providing new challenges.
Good luck to all contestants!
I'm in. My challenge is to make a nongreen, nonland card that makes one or more 1/1 green Saproling tokens.
Edit - If the above is too strict then chop it down to just "Make a card that makes one or more 1/1 green Saproling tokens." I could imagine that being an FCC challenge with one of the bonus points being for nongreen.
As many of you, I'm sure, know well. William Shakespeare was a an English poet and dramatist alive during the late 1500's. He made a great number of plays and novels that are commonly referred to in every form of media, Hamlet, Macbeth, and Romeo and Juliet being just a few among them. One particular tool that Shakespeare, and many of his contemporaries, used was Iambic Pentameter.
Iambic Pentameter is a particular form of writing that watches the placement of vocal accents, specifically, Iambs.
An Iamb is a group of two syllables where the first syllable is pronounced short and the second syllable is pronounced long. Examples of Iambs include Attempt, Create, Destroy, Deceive, and Iamb. Notice when you pronounce those words that the second syllable usually has a slight stress on the tongue.
Iambic Pentameter uses 5 such Iambs at a time, for 10 syllables of alternating vocal accents, here are a couple examples:
Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
To die, to sleep, perchance to dream
A horse! A horse! My kingdom for a horse!
Your job is, yes, to create a card in Iambic Pentameter. Flavor is all that's required for the card. However, if you make the rules text also in Iambic Pentameter, there is a bonus point in it for you. When making the rules text, you do not need to follow normal formatting (for example, you may make a line break in the middle of an ability.) However, if you follow Iambic Pentameter within the constraints of magic rules text formatting, there is a second bonus point in it for you.
To ease confusion, I'll list some common magic terms and how I feel the accents lie.
Mana Target Creature
Destroy Flying Trample Player
Opponent Instant Sorcery Artifact
Beginning Upkeep End of Turn
Attacking Blocking Gets (Most non-pronoun/modifier single syllable words are accented.) Power Toughness
Remove
I'll answer any questions you might have about what is Iambic and what isn't.
To sum it all up,
Challenge:
Create a card with flavor text in Iambic Pentameter.
Bonus:
+1: The rules text is also in Iambic Pentameter. +1: The rules text is in Iambic Pentameter and follows proper Magic: The Gathering rules text formatting.
I want to remind people making their challenges that if they are so difficult, un-fun, or whatever that your opponent can force you to do them, hence the name "Double Dare." I want to stress that the general level of difficulty here is supposed to be on par with the old FCC challenges, so if you go over that it's pretty sure you'll have to be doing poetry for your card.
I'm sure Alabran is prepared to do his own challenge, as he was with the Fibonacci one. I love the interesting challenges, maybe I'll make a card for that one too
We need 7 more players still!
Challenge: make a CD counterspell (CD: CMC=2, with two different colors of mana in the cost - WU, UB, UR, UG, for example; it's not obligatory to use U in the cost though, if the person who gets the challenge doesn't want to...)
So that's 12 so far, if I counted right. Things will really go a lot easier if we can get 4 more players, it didn't work out too well last round when we ended up with some 3 way competitions. At the very least, if we can get two more players I could give a wildcard spot to move one loser on to the second round.
Quick word to GM, if you've never ran a contest like this you should know about random.org and in particular http://www.random.org/sequences/ for pairings.
Thanks Kenaron, I'll put the hat and slips of paper aside for now ;). Will have the first round up shortly.
Match 1
RukarumelFieldJournal vs. Kenaron
Make a non-green, non-land card that produces one or more 1/1 green Saproling tokens.
Make a dragon card in Gruul colors (RG) but with flavor text relating it to Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind.
Match 2 seratonin vs. Surging Chaos
Make a white and blue card with the flavor of the Azorius guild, using "prison" or "taxing" effects (forcing the opponent to do something additional to play cards, attack, etc.).
Make a gold creature with combined power and toughness less than its CMC.
Option: CMC 4 or greater.
Make a fattie (4/4 or greater) with an alternate casting cost or way to play it (a la Salvage Titan, Qasali Ambusher.)
Match 4 BlackBull vs. rodrigolich
Make a counterspell that costs "CD" (one each of two different colors of mana).
Option: Make it non-blue.
Make a card that combines some of the abilities or flavor of Necropotence and Blood Moon.
Match 5 MagicProfessor28 vs. Alabran
Make a card with flavor text in Iambic pentameter.
Option: Rules text can also be in Iambic pentameter.
Make a non-gold card with the same name as an existing Magic set.
Option: Make it mythic rare.
Match 6 dd2k vs. Jimmy Groove
Make a non-green, non-white sorcery or instant that searches your library for basic lands.
Make one of the legends from Ravnica block into a planeswalker.
Option: It can have the same cost as the original card, and/or have starting loyalty equal to the creature's power.
Make a planeswalker whose loyalty counter-related abilities all remove loyalty counters.
Make a Tribal Enchantment - Elemental that uses grace counters.
Option: Mana cost is WUBRG.
I would like to hear at least whether you will be accepting the challenge or rejecting it within roughly the next two days (before April 8th) if possible. Ideally we will have all the cards by the end of the week. You can go ahead and post a card if you accept your challenge.
If any challenges are rejected, the creator of that challenge will need to make a card to fit that challenge, and I will provide a new challenge for the rejecting player.
Let me know by post or PM if there are any problems or questions. Some fun challenges this round, good luck everyone!

What you mean is gold. (both, gold and hybrid cards are multicolored.)

I think he may have also been trying to exclude (B/G)R and similar shenanigans. Traditional multicolor is the way I'd say it, or nonhybrid multicolor.
Challenge: Make an Azorius card that emphasizes red tape, stalling, prison effects, and/or taxing. It must utilize multicolor (WU) in some form.
Make a fattie with an alternate casting cost (ex. Salvage Titan) or other way to play without paying its cost (ex. Quasali Ambusher).
The Task: Make a unique card that would really go well with Cairn Wanderer and/or Concerted Effort, but has no more than two keyword abilities.
Challenge: Make a dragon-card for Gruul but has flavor text which shows how it is a relative of Niv-Mizzet.
