The plan is to use Veteran Explorer and New Frontiers to ramp mana and let my opponent thin his deck. And to follow that up with Mind Funerals and Prosperity to win. I definitely want to keep these four cards in the list. Everything else was sort of quickly slapped together and I'm looking for ideas.
Mirari and Rites of Flourishing: no strong reasoning behind these choices. My brain said maybe, and that leads me to fun unintuitive card choices sometimes. Eternal Witness just cause, Explorer and/or Funeral 5-8 I guess.
It didn't play G though. At first glance New Frontiers might seem nice, but what if the opponent doesn't cooperate and thin his own deck? I think it's a safe bet that you have to give incentive so that the opponent would want to play extra land, hence why LD seemed to work better with Mind Funeral.
Even if you don't use that particular idea, there are others in the thread.
Primary and only casual rule: "any rule that is fine for the most part of the playgroup, is a fine rule". So any further thread with: "if somebody uses/does .... in a casual game, is it ethical/ok?", read the answer above.
- Being a "Johnny/Spike" means you like self-torture. You win often in casual, so everybody hates you; you loose often in competitive, so you hate yourself.
How about a more traditional ramp deck with symmetrical land fetching, and Mind Funeral as a surprise finisher? The deck you have now will probably work once to hilarious effect, but once your opponent knows what the plan is they'll only search as many lands as they need. Give them a choice between fetching enough lands to compete or getting killed by your huge monsters. If you decide you need a fog effect to stall, might I suggest Constant Mists? Although really, 4x Sakura-Tribe Elder and 4x Veteran Explorer should give you enough chump-blocking power to survive the early game and start dropping fatties.
In terms of the deck's plan, I do agree that most people won't want to get the free land in game two. I was thinking Prosperity could help me abuse that, since it will (probably) get them some land while digging me down to Mind Funerals. And if they haven't been getting the free land, I'll be able to dump my new spells faster.
Love the ideas of Diabolic Intent and Evacuation. I'll probably pull Reins for Evacuation, and Alter for Diabolic Intent (since I happen to own exactly 2)
I can definitely see Cabal Therapy working, I'd up the swamp count and need some more 1-2 drops for fodder. STE can fit the bill if I'm not hard up for land, any other ideas?
I like Oona too. I'm thinking I'll pull one Mirari out for her. And rely on Prosperity + DI to find her.

Moment's Peace to not die. Reins of Power can fog, steal their army to kill em, and I love it with Alter of Dementia.

It ended up using Bitter Ordeal combined with LD like Ghost Quarter, Raze and Smallpox to raise the gravestorm count, so you could thin the opponent's deck of lands; Mind Funeral was the kill card.
