Heartstone can make a showing as a combo with Basalt Monolith (or, with it + Sculpting Steel, Grim Monolith), but I haven't tried it yet in my Karn deck. I'd never take out Darksteel Ingot, but I'm not sure how much Austere Command is in your meta. I actually play with Darksteel Pendant as well and have been pretty happy with it. Krark-Clan Ironworks has helped me power out a combo a turn or two before I would've been able to otherwise, and I would recommend playing Akroma's Memorial for similar reasons (giving your newly-transmogrified artifacts haste, also it's just brutal). As far as replacements for Candles of Leng, I've never run out of charges on Serum Tank. Another possible combo piece that I've not seen in other Karn decks is Umbral Mantle as another piece that can go infinite on a good mana artifact. Also, it allowed me to take a player out from 25 life past a mess of blocking slivers using Lodestone Myr (who I'd also recommend as an AMAZING beater that can randomly turn of Blinkmoth Urn after you use it).
I have Salvaging Station in mine as a combo with Ironworks and Mana Vault/Sol Ring and really cool CA with Scrabbling Claws and Phyrexian Furnace, but I have not once drawn it. On creatures, I actually took out Jhoira's Toolbox. Masticore has been hit-and-miss for me, but when it's been good it's been game altering (and sometimes you just get dumb Mind's Eye/Reliquary Tower nonsense going on and don't care).
This looks ridiculously fun. Seems a little light on creatures... I'd have to see it in action to adequately critique, though. Do you find yourself wishing you had instants? Would artifacts with flash help? ARE there any artifacts with flash? I can't think of any...
And with good reason. At the PT Los Angeles EDH side event, 6 of the top 8 decks had Karn for a general. That's why they banned metalworker- he makes the deck just stupid. It's still an awesome deck though. Its wicked fun to play.
Karn can turn every non-land permanent into a creature. You haven't seen cool until you've been attacked with an Akroma's Memorial and a Darksteel Forge. The vast majority of the time the win is combo based though (or you just go Lattice/Karn and pop everyone's lands, which is like a combo win).

Not really. You'll generally always have something to do. I do like Vedalken Orrery in mine so things can dodge sorcery-speed removal (greatest play with it ever was topdecking a Blinkmoth Urn and playing it during my draw step). That said, it is on the short list of things to cut if I find anything better. There are artifacts with flash, but they're not significant enough to warrant a deck slot.
It is a really cool deck, but beware of your groups attitude towards combo. I don't tend to play my Karn deck in games with 3 or fewer people because of the tendency to find everyone tapped out for a turn and just win really early. That said, there's one guy who around, who I agree with, that believes every EDH deck should have a game-ending combo because games with 4+ people are so answer-clogged that they'll go on for ridiculous amounts of time.
