Default [RAV] Golgari Brownscale

From the same anonymous source as Boros Signet and Clutch of the Underwear.

Golgari Brownscale - 1gg
Creature - Lizard (C)
When Golgari Brownscale is put into your hand from your graveyard, you gain 2 life.
Dredge 2 (If you would draw a card, instead you may put exactly 2 cards from the top of your library into your graveyard. If you do, return this card from your graveyard to your hand. Otherwise, draw a card.)
2/3

The kind of creature I enjoy - fairly meaty for the cost, with a couple yummy little abilities. This guy is the middle man in the Dredge parade - dredge 2 is great because it mills 2 cards to your graveyard, not so much that you deck yourself quick, but not so few that it has little effect on the game. The lifegain when he pops up to your hand is just a really tasty bonus - and something tells me there's an infinite combo possible with 1 or 2 other Extended cards.

All in all I give it a 4/5 for limited and a 3.5/5 for constructed. Very solid common.

Thanks source!

Excellent Stuff R_E, and a nice little creature too may I add. Just enough flavor to make it interesting, and just enough interest to make it fun for limited....

Now, I've got a question for the masses:

Ravnica... Are you feelin' it yet?!

That's nifty. Dredge is so much more interesting than the other guild mechanics. Better wipe the dust off my Llanowar Wastes, looks like I'm Golgari all the way.

Thanks r_e and source!

I'm yet to see a dredge card that would be of any interest to build a deck around it. This common is very solid yes but being mono-green and having two green in the casting cost is a bit meh. Dredge seems too suicidal mechanic for me to mill my own deck when there's terrible milling force of Dimir guild existing. Although dredge seems interesting that when you dredge your bomb dredge card into your graveyard you can dredge it back into your hand. Still dredge is horrible mechanic for limited which I mostly play.

I also like this card. These are really the kind I like most I think. It isn't stupidly good or broken, but it isn't utter trash like most of the draft filler we see nowadays. It's a nice middle card that kind of makes you think about it for a bit. Wouldn't Gaea's Blessing be nice right about now?

Okay card for limited(a 2/3 for 3cc with recursion is nothing to sneeze at) but probably won't make the cut for constructed. Dredge as an ability is probably best at building up a big graveyard for reanimation etc.

Man, with all this Dredging going on, it kinda makes me want to play Pale Curtain and Nezumi Graverobber even more now...

Nonetheless though, that is a rather solid creature. Most definitely a good pick in Limited, and who knows what tricks for the other formats (not much though, as life gain never wins games).

New time-trigger is here: put into hand from graveyard. Will we see other "put into hand" triggers? Return to you hand from play? put into your hand from outside the game?(wish?)

A very solid common. Construct playable? play gravedigger also...

Just the fact that it's a Lizard makes it cool.

this card doesn't really seem particularly exciting...but its certainly not bad. and Elvish Warrior for an extra mana doesnt really seem like a great deal to me...the fact that it can self-recur with its dredge ability makes it at least descent, but often i'd rather just draw a new card and hopefully draw something better than a 2/3 even in limited. maybe there will be some good way to make use of your graveyard to maximize the usefulness of dredgeing, such as a threshold like ability or maybe a new Lyugroyph? (i could never spell that darn thing) sorta thing, or maybe some graveyard recurrion (aside from the new Zombify ) limited i gve it a 2.5/5 and for constructed 0.5/5

There is already a card that triggers when something goes into your hand from play: Warped Devotion

Too bad that's only permanents. Cards in graveyards are treated like cards. So dredge doesn't trigger the Warped Devotion .

I really like the lizard. Something tells me I'm going to be playing it with well of lost dreams, aluren, intruder alarm, and some way to sacrifice it off or discard it, or something... I'll work on this problem when I have the time and the caffiene isn't wearing off.
