Last night we have a very bad storm and to make a long story short my basement flooded......destroying much of my collection. I didn't have much, but hell.....anyways....What's the worst disaster that has happened with your collection? Have they been stolen, crapped on, flooded over.....put it here!

One time I lent an Oblivion Ring to someone and they didn't give it back. Yeah, I've had no issues with losing cards. Yet again, I don't trade with strangers and have my back turned as they look through my file.
There was this one time where I had my freshly opened foil darksteel colossus card stolen from me for a couple of minutes. I got it back after I confronted the suspect. This was around Darksteel drafts and colossus was popular. Crazy crazy people!
Can't remember any bad happenings involving magic cards. I take great care of my cards
Couple weeks ago I de-minted a playset of FoWs while getting a deck together by spilling some water pretty much right on the pile of cards I was about to sleeve.
I think that's the third time I've done that and gotten some water damage on my cards. The only other real loss I had was when a friend was playing in a Vintage tournament and got part of his deck stolen; I didn't have any power in there, but there was a newly-received judge Yawg's Will in there that I just gave him to use..
only time I can think of was when I had a soldier deck back in the day and I was still fairly new. Anyway, I had green sleeves that were foily on the back and the deck fell on the ground and my dog attacked a few cards. Luckilly only 2 plains and a Serra Angel got chewed on (back when the angel was actually played and worth like $5). I had Kjeldoran Outposts and Mobilizations in the deck too (back when those were fairly high also) which survived. There could have been more damage but to me that was a lot at the time (having a small budget and spending maybe $10 a week on the game).
Worst that happened to me was i had a whole page out of my binder taken (i use one of the ones thats a file where you buy the Pages individualy) but my friend tops it by having his whole binder taken. complete with a garruk, a teneb playset, and tons more.
I had my box of playdecks riding in an open trailer and it started to pour. That was about 1k worth of damage.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
I don't even know how it happened, but in between the time when I first started playing (Mirage) till when I quit (Darksteel) I somehow managed to lose every rare I ever had (as well as just about every card I owned before Odyssey).
I don't remember having anything good (then again I don't even remember what I used to have) except for a Phyrexian Dreadnought I bought for like $5 about 10 years ago. Slightly annoyed at that one.
Edit: Oh yeah, I also remember having a Revised dual at some point in time. I think it was a Scrubland or Savannah.
I don't recall ever having any cards stolen (though I often get the feeling that there might be a handful still hiding in my parent's basement. There are just some cards that I seem to remember having but can't account for). The worst thing that has happened to my collection is probably a common experience for all of us. Realizing all these years later that I traded away cards that I am kicking myself for now (most notably my Force of Will). I just didn't know how good it was at the time, I had just started playing around 4th Edition/Ice Age.
Speaking of regrets, whenever I think of that it reminds me how much I wish I had just sprung for dual lands and stuff back then instead of buying packs. Oh well.
Had half a dozen EDH decks and a considerable number of other cards stolen from my car a few weeks ago whilst unloading kids and shopping at my house. Some *&!! walked past and swiped my backpack whilst the wife and I were shuttling the kids and the shopping over the whole 10 yards from my car to the door of the house. Currently in a dispute with my insurance company who won't pay up. First off they argued I didn't take due care and once I pointed out how ridiculous that was they asked for receipts for all the cards ... I have been playing since unlimited days and I'm meant to have kept all the receipts!! So unless they pay up that's $5000+ down the drain.
I'm not bitter
.
.
.
well maybe a smidgen.
You shouldn't need receipts...just some kind of proof of what was in your collection. It wouldn't hurt to have a few pictures taken and put into fireproof box or at another location.
I used to Volunteer and work as a camp councillor at a community center when I was like, 15 and I brought my binder of a complete (at the time) Pokemon collection, because the group I volunteered with loved Pokemon and it was good to be able to connect with these kids.
Now this camp was run by the City of Toronto and the Toronto Police Services, the camp was designed kind of as a 'get kids out of gangs' camp. All of our kids were either kids who had a parent in the corrections system and the other parent needed to work, or were kids who had been arrested and part of their parole was that they join this program. One of the things about being a White, Jewish guy was that I wasnt really someone these kids could look up to, so I needed a way to relate, and my boss thought Pokemon cards would be great.
Anyway, one day the staff lockers were being renovated so we put our stuff in the general locker room (this camp was at the local YMCA). I came down at one point to grab my binder and I saw my locker was broken in to. After walking around the locker room I saw a few of the older kids with one of the binder sheets and I reported it to my bosses.
They said they couldnt open his locker because they didnt want to break the trust they were establishing with him. Quizzed me what cards were on the page I saw (I missed one card) and then fired me for being racist and assuming that this kid broke into my locker.
At Origins 2004 I was in the top 16 of the North American Contenental Championship for Lord of the Rings TCG.
I had picked up my deck and went to the washroom to wash my face after a perpertually hard game, I sat my deck down on op of the toilet (not realizing it was slanted) and the deck went right into the toilet.
...It sucked.

When I originally quit magic (I stopped playing at Weatherlight, but continued collecting up to Masques) I sold off my sets for fair amounts, but gave away my leftover cards. Within those giveaways someone got six force of wills, two revised duals and a pair of lion's eye diamonds.
While it's not a theft, in hindsight that was a pretty disastrous hand-off.
Not a huge loss, and definitely not theft, but at the beginning of my freshman year in college (Im a rising junior now) I gave a friend all my good magic cards from when I used to play because "I was sure I would never pick it up again" Sure enough, this guy gets me back into magic the next semester, about 4-6 months later, when he runs a sealed Lorwyn league. Among the lost swag is 2 Defense of the Hearts, 3 Weatherseed Treefolk, 2 or 3 Rancors a bunch of Urza and Tempest block stuff, and to top it off 2 Akroma, Angel of Wraths, one of which was foil(!).
Although I would never ask him for them, it miffs me a bit that he has never offered to give them back. I'm not really sure how to feel about that.

Lorthos count:40 (1 foil) and I will always trade for more...
wasn't witnessed but at a FNM casual meetup at my friends house we hear my friend steve is coming. Turns out steve had two other peoples collection of cards(they had left them at steves last time they layed) and was bringing them to the meetup along with his decks.
We get a call saying steve was so drunk he dropped the box that had all teh cards on his drive way(opening down), you see steve was really drunk. Apparently thousands fo cards were strewn on the driveway. We all winced because remembering whose cards were whose was going to be a nightmare. Turns out Steve's collection was the only one unbound by deck boxes or rubberbands. So not as bad as it could've been but when steve tried to reconstruct his deck he came to 61 cards and couldn't figure out how he had an extra card.
I had a fat pack box that contained my edh deck and plenty of T2 staples stolen at the Conflux prerelease. The shop replaced the majority of the cards. (Ever since I have been eagerly awaiting rotation because most of what was stolen rotates when ZEN comes out)
I keep losing BoPs!
Seems like I keep getting them/losing them. It took me forever back in the day to get them, then I sold them as I was quitting.
They got stolen in the fat pack box. I have since gotten two, expecting at least 2 from my 3 M10 boxes/future trading.

I have two. The first is fairly straightforward - I got ripped off. Four FBB Tundras, plus some more old duals. It took a while to swallow.
The second is a little more unique, to put it that way, and I'm still not sure how much I lost (though I know I lost among others Sol Ring). I sat outside on a hot summer day (July last year), arranging cards in my cube. I sat fairly close to a railway, but it hadn't been a problem - until this extremely long and extremely fast carrier train passed by, and the wind took quite a number of cards with it, and just about all my cards whirled away. I spent a good while searching the railway for the cards I lost, but I think I managed to recover most of the cards.
It didn't end up being bad, but it could've been a disaster.
My pets (dog and cat) and I were staying over at my boyfriend's house, and my cat decided that MtG cards might be good for chewing on. We caught her before she got into anything serious, but I shudder to think of what might have happened.

That's a great shop you have there. Did they just do the commons, or was it easy for them just to replace your deck?
I'm sorry, I'm a bit of a noob to the current T2 - what is EDH?
No, they worked with everyone else to trade for as many of the cards as they could. They got most of the EDH deck's cards, and I got a sizeable chunk of the rares back in my possession. It was pretty nice.
Now I carry everything in an ultra pro carrying case.
EDH isn't T2. It is an eternal format - Elder Dragon Highlander.

And yes, no incantatrix for you. Or anyone. That class makes puppies cry. Mostly because they are the former Big Bads who have been Baleful Polymorphed into said puppies. By you. Because you're an incantatrix.

I suppose it's true. Though the logistics implied in a human/Great Wyrm Prismatic Dragon pairing makes me shudder.
