If you check that page, after a couple of seconds, a white flash occurs, and you see a draconic face appear. That face is the face of none other than Nicol Bolas. Here is Bolas's official 'walker art, as well as a captured image of Bolas on the site:
Wow, I thought this was going to be a terrible troll or something. God Damn it's not. It's too bad Square-Enix hasn't made a good game in years. Let's hope it starts with that.
however *****in that would be, it begs the question, What do they have in common. It's entirely possible that they have a connection and that they are developing a MTG game (reminds me of Shandalar).
But, knowing how skilled Sqare Enix is (FF7, ect....) it's entirely possible that they could be making a CG Animated Movie, much like Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, and Final Fantasy: Advent Children. (i know the FF refernces are pretty dull by now, but they're all i've got off hand)
a CG Fully Animated Movie could be the "movie" we have had speculated for quite some time now. as well

Are you guys serious? Did you check the sites? The glowing head could be anything.
Have you even looked at the art on the site? It's Bolas. 110%. Check it yourself. Unmistakably Bolas I might add.
Quick thought, Square Enix has an Arcade game called Lord of Vermilion which is a card based game from my understanding that was put out in 2008. Most theory about this countdown pointed to a sequel to said game.
Edit: New theory. Bolas is already the villain in every single Magic Property, why not just make him the villain in Square's property's as well?

I dunno, but if you open both of the pictures together, they look pretty similar.

Started playing since Invasion, stopped at Scourge. Returned briefly during BoK's introduction of ninjas. Finally back into magic during Shadowmoor/Eventide.
Currently Running Bant Control and a homebrew Blightning Echoes for Type 2.
Seriously, it might be interesting. I didn't like the Battleground game (played it once and haven't played it since). Have they really been so tight lipped about this or was this something exciting that they hinted something cool was coming.
I wouldn't mind a mixture of RPG and Magic, you learn more spells as you beat opponents.
Battlegrounds was ********. Shandalar was lots of fun.
People may hate me for this, but if done right... I might not mind an Action RPG with the MTG theme.

I'll grant you that the art looks vaguely similar, but I would think the WotC logo would be somewhere on the page if it was related. This is probably just some random dragon.
Wow, I'm surprised everyone is getting excited about this. I remember not long ago on Magic forums, if anyone ever dared to bring up the idea of a Magic related video game/movie, everyone would scream bloody murder, say it would turn into Yugioh, and say they'd quit Magic if it happened.
I am also of the opinion that it's just a similar dragon-face. Wizards loves to give hints about these things, and there would certainly have been some sort of advertising, however subtle, on the WotC website for this. We've heard not a peep. WotC is marketing savvy, how could no one have heard of this until three days before the release?
Edit: After closer inspection...zese a'hh loafers...
Yea, I see the match now. Not 100%, but like 95%. That's enough to put me on the fence.
Countdown timers don't always mean a release date. For that matter, they RARELY mean a release date. Remember when Super Smash Bros Brawl's site first went up? Countdown timer. When it finally ticked zero it gave us some tantalizing tidbits of Brawl but it was months before we had a release date (or even meaningful screenshots).
That said, here's hoping for a planeswalking action RPG where you pick up new spells and use them to navigate the environment, solve puzzles, and take down bad guys as you pull mana from your surroundings. Preferably with customization options in terms of which mana colors you skew towards.

They have a comic and novels for this kind of thing. As long as it isn't a movie about people playing cards, and actual mages casting spells at each other, then it has some redeeming qualities.
Anyways, other forums are mentioned the Lord of Vermillion property, but...
I have to agree, that is Nicol Bolas. What shenanigans are at work here?

Oh, nice, it got to two days exactly when I checked it out. Now there is a young-looking man in light armor with a sword.
Knowing Squenix, this could be anything. I remember their previous countdown with a number 4, and everyone speculated that it'd be the 4th game from some forgotten franchise, but it was just some silly game about 4 warriors of light. That was lame, if you ask me. I hope this one's better.

Is this proof of a Square-Enix & Wizards of the Coast joint venture, perhaps a Magic: the Gathering game by Square-Enix?

Hopefully this is something kickass, I've always wanted a game based on the story more than the gameplay.
A card game about Presidents. Stabbing each other. With knives.

It's very very clearly the art from Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker.

Maybe even a Kingdom Hearts like crossover?

Can't be some random dragon. It's the exact same art as that of Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker.

I don't have a clue what this could be, but I was always a fan of the FF series (up until FF10+). I can't wait until Friday.

The Vermillion property being merged with Magic somehow is the best and most 'concrete' lead.
