Eh, 7 Merfolk is a lot to tap to counter a spell, so I don't think that one will see much play. The Minotaur is awesome in draft and the quest is alright.
Zendikar's gonna be a beast. Haven't been disappointed in anything I've seen thus far, and these cards are no exception. Sounds like it's gonna be incredibly fun to play.
Edit: Also just realized that this is the first of the "New merfolk" we've seen. Looks awesome.
Merfolk = broken.
Minotaur= Lil' too expensive, especially with wrath back in.
Soul Stair: WAY better than Untomb. If you have black midrange/aggro, you cant afford to not play this card.
It's understandable blue control players would be shocked and in denial at the notion of this card, since their decks have been dominating multiple formats for an eternity yet they've curiously never once had to deal with any counter-hosers that weren't ineffectual, narrow CRAP.
Soul stair expedition as an enchantment is weird in a flavor sense. How is something thats an expedition an enchantment?
I like the merfolk guy although he doesn't seem all that powerful. The minotaur is meh unless there are a lot of good allies. It also has a DnD feel to it
or dinosaur pirates!!! big hulking dinos with eye patches and peglegs and troll the ocean on their ships made of smaller dinosaur bones in search or treasures. I would sooo go for that. or better yet, slave dinosaurs that serve the pirates like some sick dinotopia world where people own the dinos.
1. Lullmage Mentor- I'm not real thrilled about the look of the new Merfolk. I know they will work better (flavor wise) on the battlefield but I think they look too human. The card however does seem cool and I like that after a few turns he fuels his own ability.
2. Kazuul Warlord- Is it just me or are ally's just CITP slivers.
(btw I HATE slivers)
3. Soul Stair Expedition- Could be useful if it sticks around. I like that it only costs 1 so you can drop it on turn one to start putting counters on whether you need them or not. It also makes it very easily splashed.

what's wrong with the minotaur? he's a 4/4 for 5 that pumps other guys and can be pumped. as long as there's enough allies that are good it might make it worth while. It's starting to seem like allies are a different take on slivers where they all help each other.
A minotaur. With an awesome art. That's nice.
That merfolk seems good, needs testing.
The quests seems decent, but I think the other one is somewhat better.

I rolled 5 D6's and got 3 fours. They must have changed the odds of getting a 4!
Recent discussions here and elsewhere have made it clear that there seems to be a group of players who consider blue and control synonymous, as if they somehow started playing a game with four identical and "bad" colors that do nothing interesting because they just "turn men sideways" and then true, glorious blue, the only thinking person's color.

Soul stair expedition as an enchantment is weird in a flavor sense. How is something thats an expedition an enchantment?
It makes sense to me. A quest isn't something that happens at once, like an Instant or Sorcery spell, so it's ongoing, like an Enchantment. And the flavor all fits. When you've had three lands enter the battlefield under your control, it's like you've traveled to the "Soul Stair" for the quest, and are able to get back two creatures from the graveyard. When this happens, the card is sacrificed, because the expedition is completed.
It's just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus. All year long, the grasshopper kept burying acorns for the winter, while the octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched TV. But then the winter came and the grasshopper died and the octopus ate all his acorns. And also he got a racecar. Is any of this getting through to you?
The Allies are looking to be a representation of "adventuring groups," basically like the players in D&D. I'd love to see what else besides +1/+1 counters they get to support each other.
Soul Stair Expedition seems like it would be great in multiplayer decks, especially in EDH. You could end up getting back a TON of cards off of this in typically long multiplayer games. This and Quest for the Gravelord really make me want to build a MBC multiplayer deck.
So far I am very, very, very happy with Zendikar!

Expedition is pretty interesting. For a common.

I love the art on the Minotaur.

lullmage mentor is kinda interesting.. blue control just got some free creatures, i dunno about that second ability, thats a lot of merfolk..
soul stair is nice and cheap which is always good, and in most games u can get two creatures back for nothing, so it aint that bad.
black quest seems decent

Lullmage Mentor could see play, but good Merfolk have a critical mass of 3-drops. Would have been much better if it had flash.
