my first deck was the Apocalypse G/U precon with gaea's skyfolk, and my all time favorite Mystic Snake and GU has always been my favorite colors. I decided to try modifying a mono U Erayo deck I had to include the accel and versatility that G/U would give.
Ethereal Usher is in the deck for one reason only btw, transmuting for Planar Portal.
Seedborn Muse out ensures I will have mystic snake/crystal shard combo available all my opponents turns. With Sensei's top I can always have fuel to draw cards to fuel mind over matter.
What I am worried about is being able to protect my creatures from mass removal, any blue card that lets me phase all creatures out for a turn or anything like that? Other than that I like this deck, seedborn muse, Mystic Snake and planar portal are engines of this deck, and I would be happy with some more mana-anything that lets me double my land's mana or anything like that, or more explosive mana artifacts.
It's fun and awesome to play this deck and it has an answer for anything, I just need to have a way to get way more mana, if I had enough mana I could protect my creatures from anything, this deck is real consistent
Im taking a look... Ill edit in a response soon...
Edit: It seems like you have a pretty good build there... Momir Vig seems like a pretty solid general. Something Screams Experiment Kraj should be in there for flavor and for purpose. I would run that random Snake from Alara Block that has flash and deathtouch Lorescale Coatl I believe its called Its a removal spell and a tutor for 3 mana. I would also lose worldly tutor because your general does the same thing. Eratic Portal does the same thing as crystal shard. Oblivion Stone is terrible in EDH to me. I dont think you need mass removal in this deck. Maybe Evacuation if you insist on mass removal... Hmm I like the posibilities of this deck. Ill try to fix it for you in a couple of days at the shop. It definately has potential.
Ethereal Usher can also fetch Mind Over Matter, which is arguably better than Planar Portal. I'd also suggest putting in Arcanis the Omnipotent, as that's infinite draw with Mind Over Matter (if your playgroups are OK with that kinda stuff), and Ethereal Usher finds Arcanis as well. Have you found Journeyer's Kite to be too slow? I always want to play other things than spend three to cast it, three to activate. Sylvan Scrying seems a touch weak without amazing lands to tutor up (Maze of Ith, Gaea's Cradle, etc.), and could probably be cut for something else, but it's certainly not a bad card. The rest of your deck seems pretty standard so I don't know what else to suggest.
yeh i dont like netdecking and tried to build this from scratch but then i went to check out this forum after i finished and saw the other simic decks and they all have similar cards to mine, but then again when a color combo only has 2 possible generals of course everyone will play similar cards, can't get around that.
Journeyor's Kite is too slow, I just don't know other mana accell that would be better to replace it with. And Gaea's Cradle is the kind of stuff I'm looking for, I want to have all these epic lands to be able to tutor for with my land draw, I just don't know enough quality lands

Im going to Proxy up your deck and give you a base build so you can tune it to your play style. Ill have it done by Friday...
I would work on getting the staples of EDH though... You have some of them
* Sol Ring
* Grim Monolith
* Voltaic Key
hmmm dont worry about it... youll like what I do lol I love helping new players in EDH

If I were you I might cut Tidings and All Sun's Dawn for Life from the Loam, Crucible of Worlds, and replace a couple of the lands with the cycling lands. It's just a powerful engine to have.
i dont get why life from the loam and crucible of worlds are so powerful-so I use it to play all the lands i will discard from mind over matter for example? Actually that is pretty decent, but life from the loam, what is so good about that?
Im not trying to be mean I just don't understand what's powerful about them
also it's real obvious but i didnt even realize mind over matter and arcanis=infinite cards. that is beastly. I suppose i could turn it into a deck that wins the turn i get that combo out, with brainfreeze and everything, but i'd rather not go that way, it's more fun for me to dominate and control over a long period of time rather than gather combo pieces and win real quick
You're not being mean, I can see where you might not understand it. Life from the Loam + Cycling lands is a really good draw engine. Maybe not powerful enough in a two color deck, I guess, but combine it with things like Strip Mine and Wasteland and any dead powerful lands your opponents kill (if you ever get Gaea's Cradle, Maze of Ith, etc.), and it's recursion for those, too. Plus I don't know what kind of metagame you play in, but there is usually some kind of land destruction going on, so it's good to have a backup plan. Maybe you don't need them, but I've always found them to be useful, even if I don't have a 100% solid plan of abusing them.
i play EDH mostly with my 3 friends, we all quit for a few years but started getting into it, we went to the store once for an EDH tournament, and all our decks were fun, i was running monoblack zombies for example, while everyone at the store ran netdecked combo kill spike EDH style.
I decided to return to next month's tournament with a vengaence, making a bomb control deck that could deal with and counter whatever they come up with
i havent played against land destruction but i can see how a hellraiser might own. My original plan was to play mostly forest and island with maybe 1 or two nonbasics so that back to basics would dominate and not effect me, because everyone played a TON of nonbasic land.
Maybe I should add Lorescale Coatl, Winged Coatl and Gaea's Skyfolk, yes they aren't good on their own for EDH but ChrisTaylor is right, with the general out these guys are basically just tutors for any of my creatures, which is really good, ontop of that Gaea's Skyfolk was one of my favorite alltime cards second to mystic snake, back in the day when i first started playing i had 4 of those guys and they were beatsticks-in this deck cards i love that aren't that powerful like Mystic Snake and Gaea's Skyfolk become really useful
edit-added stuff like slippery boggle, gaea's skyfolk, winged coatl, ponder
WOOOOOOT!!!
Traded a baneslayer angel i just pulled for a sol ring and grim monolith!!! It's awesome because I dont play T2 and dont even play white! they going in the deck now for SURE i have the one ring it feels so much better than baneslayer ever will
yeh i have a legacy deck based around that, I just didn't want to waste a card spot for the sculptor but ill playtest some maybe i can take out a land for it.
yeh i need to find someone to trade for Tolarian Academy and Gaea's Cradle, I'm not going to pay $40 for 2 cards, lol the problem is I have no cards that anyone would trade academy and cradle for.
Hey lilmishra, I don't find it necessary to post at length since I always tend to say the same thing in every Momir Vig thread that pops up and with any amount of digging you can find my stance on the deck. I will say, however, that based on my experience Momir Vig strictly works best as a combo engine based on Aluren + Cloudstone Curio/Equilibrium, and the deck should be developed with this interaction in mind. For the most part I just wanted to post so that you have the convenience of my sig to reference. I have played this deck consistently since June 2007 and as such my version is very finely tuned and tested. Good luck with your build and I hope you enjoy the deck as much as I do.

sounds really good, but what cards do you use in order to tutor for these cards and get them out consistently and fastest, simply planar portal? It looks especially quality with voidmage husher
The most reliable way to get Cloudstone Curio/Equilibrium is Drift of Phantasms, which, conveniently, is also tutorable via Vig. Aluren is harder to obtain since there are no real tutors for it, aside from Intuition (which is somewhat unreliable in my experience). But despite its obvious broken-ness in this deck Aluren is not nearly as effective/necessary for your success as the Curio/Eq.
EDIT: Fable is good, yes, but after testing it I'm sure you would come to the same conclusion that I did that it is almost always a win-more. I took it out.
EDIT EDIT: I should also mention that my version is tuned primarily for 1v1.

do you know the card glen elendra pranksters? It is faster and easier to get out than Curio, Equilibriumm and Aluren, because you dont have to take the time of tutoring for a transmuter first, glen elendra pranksters has the same effect as those three enchantments only is tutorable, that's why I decided to play it. Then with Winged Coatl and Mystic Snake and Pranksters you can return mystic snake to your hand every turn for free. I'm going to try aluren and equilibrium though as well as curio they are probably very powerful
edit-im not sure, but I think how the stack works you won't even need the winged coatl, if pranksters is out, can't mystic snake be played and then get targeted by the pranksters?
My only stigma with the pranksters is that it only triggers on an opponent's turn so it is only effective as a reactive card, not proactive. But I will probably test it regardless.
teferi, mage of zalfir also seems simpler and easier to run, rather than the two cards phantasms and Aluren you need if you do run aluren, I'm going to play with that guy i have a feeling it will yield good results, just going to think about what to take out to add Teferi and Equilibrium
edit-took out final word and tidings for teferi and equilibrium, hells yeh
I want to get up to 37 lands atleast so I need 2 more, can anyone give advice the two cards I should pull out? I'm thinking mind's eye and something else
I would actually advise you to have 40+ lands in the deck. So much of this deck's success hinges upon resolving Momir Vig as early as possible. The best way to do this is to make consistent land drops. Ideally I would want 43 in my build but it got to a point where I couldn't trim back any further so I kept it at 41 for the time being.
I would consider any of the following for removal:
-Overbeing of Myth
-Gaea's Skyfolk (Winged Coatl is better imo, especially since it is one of the only ways that you can reliably kill off Zur the Enchanter even under Diplomatic Immunity)
-Solemn Simulacrum (he's fantastic but Farhaven Elf is an upgrade in this deck)
-Vedalken Heretic (lack of evasion makes me dubious)
-Ethereal Usher
-Draining Whelk (another great card for EDH in general but 9 times out of 10 I would rather just counter with Mystic Snake or Venser, Shaper Savant and keep some mana open)
-Time Elemental
-Arcanis, the Omnipotent
-Nature's Spiral
There are many others that I don't personally run, but they seem like decent cards overall so I didn't address them. Your testing will tell you what works/doesn't work and I'll leave it up to you to determine their merit.

Gaea's Cradle, Maze of Ith, Strip Mine/Wasteland to take care of opposing lands that are troublesome, Arena can be pretty good, Treetop Village and other manlands, Yavimaya Hallow for regen, Glacial Chasm can be fun with Crop Rotation, etc.
