I was introduced to EDH by one of my college friends recently and decided to make a deck based on 5-color/sunburst. Luckily, there are many wincons that I found, so I pretty much made a Sunburst/Artifact/Zoo deck. Child of Alara was chosen for both it's colors and it's ability. The group I play with is a bit more casual, so this deck probably is nowhere up to potential, but anyways, here it is:

You def. need some of these cards:
If you get the White Dawn Bringer with Coretapper and Magistrate's Scepter out you can take infinite turns and have good times
The problem about your deck idea is that your general doesnt have too much synergy with permanents.
However you can choose let the Child trigger or not, but many times you will be in really uncorfortable possitions where you have many good permanents in play and you need to let the Child blow the world.
I also use Child of Alara in one of my EDH decks. My deck though is a ramp-reanimator deck.I think my only permanents are creatures, so if they get blown up by the Child i can reanimate them.
