This marks the first round of the second tier of matches. I’ve taken the eight winners and randomly paired them up.
1. Batman
2. Nick Fury.
3. Spider-Man
4. Spawn
5. Wolverine
6. ????
7. Iron Man
8. Hulk
Seven and two are up first.
This takes place shortly after the events in Civil War.
Tony Stark, director of S.H.I.E.L.D. , and Maria Hill, deputy and former director, walk along the corridors of the hellicarrier.
“I’m going to lead them myself,” Stark says.
“I thought you looked over dressed,” Hill says, not looking at him.
He lifts his helmet to his face and automated gears and hydraulics sing into motion, locking it into place and completing his Ironman suit.
“It’s their first act under my leadership.”
“These are trained men, Stark, they don’t need you to hold their hand. And training third-tier capes isn’t much of a stressful situation.”
“If there’s one thing I learned from leading one of the world’s most successful companies all these years, it’s that marketing is key.”
“I’m sure all of those soldiers in there will take that to heart.”
“I need you to formally pass the torch on to me.”
“Alright, sir. The torch will definitely be passed.”
Less than a minute later the two of them emerge on the deck of the hellicarrier. Ironman stops in his tracks. Nick Fury turns from the crowd of gathered agents and looks at Ironman.
“Fury? You’ve come to help?”
Fury puts his hands behind his back. “The captain’s dead, Stark.”
Ironman takes a step back and whispers something his transceiver’s don’t pick up.
“This has gone on far enough. I’m taking S.H.I.E.L.D. back.”
“Isn’t that the president’s decision.”
“He’ll get back to you.”
“You know I’m not giving up my position based on your, or anyone’s, word alone.”
Fury takes out a cigar from his vest and lights it. “I figured as much.”
“Then you’ll kindly get off my ship.”
Fury takes a long drag of the cigar and blows it into the wind. “Fair enough.”
Fury walks over to a jet by the runway. Ironman watches it rise vertically and take off.
Maria Hill walks around Ironman to face him. “So what are the chances that he didn’t take anything with him in that fighter?”
Ironman looks back at the silver spec on the horizon.
“You knew he was coming, didn’t you Hill?”
“Think of it as a business opportunity. What better way to show the agents your prowess than by tracking down the best spy these soldiers, or anyone, has seen?”
“If this carrier even comes close to us, expect to be fired when I get back.”
“You know what, when you get back, I’m going to make a tee-shirt that says—“
Hill’s voice is drowned out by Ironman’s booster rockets.

Listen to my M:tG flavor Podcast: Story Circle! (Newest episode is all about Innistrad previews.)
Looks like you changed the rules a bit. Now it's just Nick Fury, not Nick Fury AND Shield? Because that's a huge difference.
Honestly, I'd expect Nick Fury to find a way to win. The man is able to disappear like no one else (He eluded everyone in the Marvel Universe for years after the Secret War in Latveria). He'd bide his time until everything he needed to take Iron Man out came together, put his plan into action, and obliterate Tony Stark.

A card game about Presidents. Stabbing each other. With knives.
I'm going on record right now and stating that before the end of 2012 we will see foil dual lands in booster packs (The real, Alpha dual lands). You can quote me on that.
This depends on how much stark wants to win... it comes down to money VS raw skill. alone Iron man is toast however if he finds some people who have greater skills AND are willing to work for him becuase he pays well... he might stand a chance...
1v1 Iron Man is winning. Fury is still bound to conventional weapons/body armor (kevlar? .45?), whereas Iron Man is sporting armor that can withstand ballistic missiles, and weaponry that rivals a tank. And his mobility is greater than Fury's ("Hey dude, I can fly, you can't, gg").
Overall, Fury is the better soldier, with a better backing (SHIELD), but like draftguy mentioned, Stark isn't dead in the water. He's a billionaire, and could probably buy a country, and form a military of his own (meanwhile, supplying it with state of the art weapons to rival SHIELD).
So let's get things straight: 1v1 fight, Iron Man has the advantage due to superior firepower. In a fight of resources/arms race, Tony Stark's wealth and genius vs SHIELD.
Go Iron Man here seeing Nick is just not in his league. Sad Nick wins over Lobo to get this. Well no worries Iron Man is my 3rd favorite super hero of all time.

I can agree with your assessment though.
