if it wasn't coming out in May i would think this would be a great Xmas item for new players too.

Think its a pretty decent idea, good way to get lands cheaper then a fat pack.

You are absolutely right. I think that these are going to be a good idea. Dare I say that i will even buy one? Ya i will. They are a good deal. 20 bucks for 4 packs, 100 lands and 150 'semi-randoms'.... What does that mean? Either way, good deal.

At this point, I think it all rests on what the semi-random cards turn out to be. If they turn out to be excess limited fodder then I guess new players are better off hitting the draft surplus bin.

If, on the other hand, they turn out to include reasonable numbers of useful, modular, bread-and-butter cards along the lines of Doom Blade, Lightning Bolt, Naturalize and Oblivion Ring, then I can see it working, and not only for new players but for retired players looking for a way back into the game as well.

Then again, I'd probably be more excited if they offered a $19.99 8-booster box, sort of like a fat pack except without the box and useless promotional literature.

And we can't allow fun in our Magic. Not at all.

Fun? FUN? Magic isn't fun! It is serious business!

We asked Wizards what semi-random meant, their explanation was that of the 125 cards, 81 would be fixed between toolkits, and 44 would be randomized. That would of course be in addition to the 4 booster packs.

We didn't get any further explanation as to if the 44 were sorted by rarity or what, we have sent a request for further clarification to them.

Also of interest is that the expansion symbols will retain the info of the set the cards are printed in, this is not like the Duel decks for FTVs.

Alpha boosters, yes.
Revised starter decks, yes.
You have false memories, as did I. I remembered getting 2-3 land in every revised booster pack, which were inserted COMPLETELY randomly (Meaning it could take the place of your rare). When we did the revised draft not long enough, we were shocked to discover it was 5-7 land in each booster pack. While I had remembered the quantity incorrectly, however, I never forgot that they were there, and you are the first person I have ever heard claim that the boosters didn't have land in them in revised. Fourth edition was the first core set to not include basic land in boosters.

You are saying that Magic always had 4 rarities with the mythic rarity? I think not. And I know lands are big in older sets, but that's because those sets were smaller. You get less bang for your buck, as you americans like to put it. Also, if no new people join, the old people might stay. You can't say that the game will just go out of business. You don't know that. Extremes, man.
First of all, Magic IS the original. Everyone is already copying them. Just because someone else has a good idea to supplement the experience doesn't mean we should begrudge WotC for not thinking of it first. Second of all, WotC DID think of it first. Alpha, Beta, and Unlimited had 3 rarities: common, uncommon, and rare. Arabian Nights, on the other hand, had 6 rarites: U2, U3, C1, C2, C3, and C11 and Antiquities had U1, U2, U3, C1, C2, and C3. There is little difference between this and rares and mythic rares, which are really just R1 and R2. You need to just relax and stop worrying that the sky is falling with everyone announcement WotC makes.

Announcing ...

Duel Decks: Sky vs Ground!

Each deck comes with four foil copies of the newly-reprinted Earthbind, back by popular demand with original artwork. The sky is falling this Febtober - and it has teeth!

I recently just got into Magic for reals (like building different decks, understanding what's powerful etc.) and would absolutely love this. I currently only have a very small box of land donated by friends and I often find that I'm asking for land way too frequently. To get 100 more land, 81 hopefully-staple cards, 40-odd random cards, and 4 boosters for a Hamilton? I'm sold.

Obviously, it depends on the 81 cards they decide to put in every pack. But if it contains anything like the likes of Oblivion Ring, Doom Blade, or Ponder, It will be a good buy. I would rather go to a store to do that than pay a dime/land online.

You guys keep forgetting that this comes with a deckbox. That also has to be worth something. Come one guys, value wise this is an excellent deal. Lands, 81 Staple cards, most likely commons and uncommons, my guess would be L Bolt and Doom Blade and the like, plus four booster packs. What noob wouldn't love this?

Giving my freinds who lack powerful cards or the money to afford them a couple hundred random cards is not going to help them out at all. So my Meta still sucks.

*******s.

I wish they WOULD reprint Earthbind. That card rocked.

I'm more interested in what the lands are. If they have the text box, what set/art they're from, etc.

I think it can be almost guaranteed that the lands are not textless lands.
Those are special, and won't be handed out in 100 card chunks.

I can only assume the lands are either from X random sets, or one single set.

Also, keep it on topic guys.
