The image upload software currently doesn't support adding a 450x150 signature, and will automatically resize it back down to 100px tall. Thus, for this image mapping technique, only the 600x100 size is really supported.
Am I wrong?
Other than that, this is fantastic stuff, and I can't thank enough whoever put this together and made it work. Great stuff!
1. I just want to confirm... the size (kb) limit is still 80kb?
2. The note should probably be changed if possible. It currently reads: Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 600 by 100 pixels or 80.0 KB (whichever is smaller).
To be honest, I think most of the 'shoppers use off-site storage because the PNG files which look the best for signatures can be anywhere between ~110-150kb for full quality. Usually I've found I end up with around ~120k. Just as an example, my current sig is ~110k.
Thanks, though, this is awesome stuff, possibly enough to get me to try to make some under 80k just so I don't have to cut it in half. I really, really appreciate the work that went into this.
vBulletin doesn't allow "different image sizes", so I'm not sure how I can fit that inside there... yes right now 80kb is the limit.
Well, I want to give it a shot like this.
I think that 120kb to 190kb for a 150x450 image is unnecessary (just use 95% JPG and you should be well under 80kb), but if there's a demand for that, I'll consider offering the map for the [simg] too, and thus allowing externally hosted images. I guess PNG24 for alpha transparency?
The plan is to discontinue those multiple image things and just allow one image per signature (either through [sigpic] or possibly [simg]), but that's maybe in 2011.
Actually, just allowing 450x150 SIMG pictures without having to split it would be so nice... but then that results in the problem of not being able to link them... hrmm.
I don't mean to be doing the whole "give them an inch and they'll take a mile" thing, far from it. I was just thinking in practical terms, in terms of what people already use now. With external hosting, images can be set at their highest quality no problem, and only PNGs allow transparency (like in my current sig), so that's what most of the shops in the avatar/banner forum do, and probably would continue to do.
Like I said, this is a great change, and has already made me slightly consider experimenting with seeing what an 80k sig would look like.
Well, for one, I have never made an image map in my entire life. With the code given above, where do I place a code for my image to show up? Is there any easy way to find the coordinates to that certain part of the image where I would like to link to (the way I currently can find the coordinates is to slice the image in ImageReady, and even then I'm not too sure)?
I can sort of understand the whole rectangle/circle thing; it's kind of common sense. I just don't understand how to get the image coded. I'm no HTML expert, so that's why I have to ask these questions.
Really handy, but I ran into a sig length issue. The forum software isn't considering this as BBcode, so while trying to add links to the boxes/buttons in my sig, I'm having length issues. Granted I could take the text part of my sig out, it sadly wouldn't help too much.
Still no dice/hovertags. Those rectangles should be large enough and placed in approximately the upper right, middle right, and lower right quadrants, respectively, right? (I've done a slow pixel scan of the whole thing, though, and can't find links/hovertags anywhere.)
rect=a,b,c,d draws a rectangle from (a,b) to (c,d)
a, c are x-coordinates, b, d are y-coordinates. I think your rectangles are outside the image (height = y, width = x).
Try a small rectangle, rect=0,0,40,40 and see it that shows up.
Hurr, hurr...sorry, dealing with an English major, not a Math major. As soon as you said this, I realized what an idiot I was being. Thank you very much for pointing out the vital flaw.
Check out below: A working sig!!!
EDIT: Ok, well, sorta. I can't get the hovertags to work, and when I click on the embedded links, it takes me to that page in the current window; is there a way to embed the links so that they open in a NEW window?
Sooooo, maybe I'm the only one using this, and if it's not worth your time, I understand, but here's an oddity. When I hover over other people's signature pictures, my sigpicmap info is embedded in their sigpics. If I click on the upper-right of some signature pics, I go to the comp rules. If I move to the left and down a little, an autocard with Evermind pops up. And if I move further to the left, I get a pointer icon that takes me to the Mafia forum. It doesn't seem to happen with all of them...but MandersHex's and Doom Lich's both do it. khorney06 and CropCircles' do not. Any idea what's going on?
1a. Upload your signature (smaller than 600x100 or smaller than 450x150)
Settings & Options -> Edit Signature
-> Upload Signature Picture (450x150 is okay, even if they note says it's not)
Click "Insert Signature Picture" or add "[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]" to your signature.
1b. OR use your own externally hosted image (smaller than 600x100 or smaller than 450x150)
Settings & Options -> Edit Signature
Add "[SIGPICURL]http://... link to your image.jpg[/SIGPICURL]" to your signature.
2. Create an Image Map like this:
The syntax is as follows:
[rect=0,0,50,50]http://...|Optional Title[/rect]
Clickable rectangle from (0,0) to (50,50)
[circle=50,50,10]http://...|Optional Title[/circle]
Clickable circle at (50,50) with radius 10
Don't forget to wrap all your rectangles and circles in just one [sigpicmap] and add it somewhere to your signature.
That's it!
If you have any questions, please ask!
The image upload software currently doesn't support adding a 450x150 signature, and will automatically resize it back down to 100px tall. Thus, for this image mapping technique, only the 600x100 size is really supported.

That fixes all your problems right?

But as far as I can tell, my pic has no clickable links in it. Where am I going wrong here?
Nope. Just tried it. Also added hovertags (or whatever they're called) so that it looks like this:

I'm excited about this. You would probably be surprised as to how excited.
I appreciate it.
