Per request by PM, this is my "enters the battlefield" abuse deck. It's fairly competitive for a casual environment, and performs well. It's pretty budget friendly! Goals are first, then the list, then evolution of the deck, then lastly, Tips and Tricks below.
BUT! This is where I need some help. It has passed my initial test to prove that it's a viable idea, but the deck currently sits at 64 cards. Please help me trim it down. It's also a bit singleton, so I'd like to figure out what works to up to 4x levels.
Goals:
- Abuse "187s" or "enters the battlefield" effects. Make an engine out of them with "gating" creatures (Horned Kavu, et all) Cloudstone Curio and cost reducers (Cloud Key, Thunderscape Familiar). The gating creatures offer a Curio function for redundancy.
- Optimize the use of echo creatures by bouncing them so you don't have to pay their echo costs. Stingscourger really locks up players when played every turn without echo.
- Have a wide variety of effects to deal with creatures, artifacts, and enchantments.
NOTE: Tried to sort deck list to aid understanding of card function.
Evolution:
- Had some Shivan Wurms in there, too expensive and slows deck down.
- Had Flame Jabs in at some point. It fit the nature of the deck (recurring) but deck needs its land to play and bounce.
- Needs to be trimmed to 60. Needs to up #s for consistency.
- I have one more Eternal Witness that would be nice to fit in.
- Nekrataal would rule if mana base can support BB.
- Minion Reflector would probably be the best fit ever.
- Avalanche Riders can be added for problem lands if you face them.
Tips and Tricks:
- Your early beats include Keldon Marauders and the gating creatures. Keep up the pressure.
- Use your echo creatures wisely; try always to play one and then bounce it same turn by playing another creature either a gater or a creature with the Curio. You really don't want to pay the kicker if you can, it slows you down. If you have an Undertaker, you can let an echo die, then bring it back. Once you get to 5 or 6 lands, you can usually pitch extra lands to the 'taker.
- Save Terminate for really big creatures if you can. You can deal 4 (FTK) and 2 (Slinger) easily. Attack first, then finish blockers with damage after combat if you can. You can 'scourger each turn to stave off big things.
- Artifacts and enchantments are no sweat for you.
- Apply pressure early (Gaters are big and come early in the game), kill their stuff, bounce, repeat, swarm or direct damage them for the win.
some other creatures to consider triskelion - colourless damage to players + creatures duplicant - creature removal sundering titan - land descruction. expensive but could be a game ender.
what's your end game? do you find that the weenies are enough to finish off your opponent?
